FFXI vs WoW should i try FFXI

The only MMORPG i currently play is world of warcraft (not to mention the only MMORPG i've ever played), which i really enjoy. Warcraft is supposedly a much more solo friendly game when compared to FFXI. While i dont' consider being group dependent a bad thing, what i would consider bad is difficulties finding groups. What classes are needed (probably healers, if WoW is any indication, which i have no problem playing)? How does group questing work?
Another big question for me is how does endgame work? I was in a large raiding guild in warcraft (again, i understand this game is different and group cooperation is considerable smaller) and found out the game COMPLETELY changed once you reach the level cap and do the "end game" material. Basically, if someone has played both games and could give their prospective i'd really appreciate.
I'm really looking for an excuse to go buy this game, i just don't want to buy it and find out it's not a game i enjoy. Bear in mind, though, i WANT this game to be more difficutl than warcraft (warcraft is too easy, any noob can get to lvl 60 in that game).
Thanks for any help that is given here; i've found the FFXI website to be incredibly disorganized and in general not helpful- maybe i'm just an idiot, i dont' know.

It is a good game, the graphics are kinda blurry, I think. But overall pretty good.
I played FFXI before I started WoW, I think I only got to like lvl 40 sumtin, so I didnt experience the best of it. U do need to team up with other ppl very often. And if ur the only healer it can be quite a handfull.
WoW didnt take that long to reach lvl 60, so I dont really play that much either.
I normally dont play games that u have to pay a montly-fee.
Even tho I think WoW is more worth it, FFXI is also a great game.
Now, I am sure I made u more confused wether to buy it or not, instead of helping u on ur decision.

Totally like über inactive ya'know?

I'm really just a final fantasy junkie and think i'd have a lot of fun playing this game just because it's FF. maybe i'm wrong, hopefully i'm not.

to begin, i absolutely love FFXI, so i might be a little biased. ive never played any of the FFs before FFXI, and i dont plan on playin any thereafter. i have to admit that i was skeptical in trying the game since i dont really like RPGs, but it came with my HDD for my PS2 and i figured id give it a try. and man am i glad i did. if i could, id play every day. stinks though, my flippin skool doesnt allow online video gaming for some reason... getting off the subject, sorry.
anyways, FFXI does take a while to level, but compared to WOW, its more fulfilling when you do. getting to lvl 10 in FFXI doesnt take long, if you know what youre doin. i recently got the Summoner job and hit 10 in no time. 20 actually was pretty quik, cuz i sub-jobbed with White Mage, and people always want healers in their party. one of the main reasons as to y i wanted to keep playin FFXI was that i wanted to get that Summoner job, and when i finally got it, i was very happy. for some reason, summoning those avatars is real kool to me. iduno.
with WOW, leveling seems to be too easy. and boring. you fight similar monsters over and over, and it seems repetative at times. granted, FFXI has this similarity too, but the graphics are much better, and the monsters are more detailed. example: WOW- you fight some little rat people things that chill around a campfire and mumble words like "you cant have the candle" or some BS like that. FFXI- you fight Orcs; large monsers that are nicely detailed and actually intimidating with their spears, axes, or spell-casting.
movement in WOW seems choppy. and also, the graphics are too cartoonish. i think its only for PC, so that might be a graphic reason, but i play FFXI on PS2, and i think the graphics are amazing. in game you can take pictures of the scenery
, and its just unbelievable. there are rainbows in the sky at times, the weather is always changing, and it shows. FFXI seems to be very involved in its environment.for chatting, FFXI has a much better system, in my opinion. in WOW, its difficult to read and decipher, and its hard to tell whos talkin to who. in FFXI, the commenting is large enough to see, unlike in WOW, and the forms of communication are easily deciphered with color codes and what-not. plus, the translation tools are wonderful for chatting with those from other continents. without these, its difficult at times to communicate, but one can still party with people all over the world. ive been in wonderful parties where i had no idea what every1 was saying (i didnt know how to use the translation tools yet), but with the right teamwork and job combinations, leveling was very quick and easy.
the auction/selling system in WOW i think is dumb. when you bid for something, you have to wait for a period of time to see if you get it. and generally you dont and have to try and bid on the item you want again, if there is one, and wait again. in FFXI, you get what you desire right away, if you bid high enough. plus, in FFXI you can sell items right off your character in a thing called a Bazaar. people can view your character and look through your wares whenever, if youre selling something, and buy items from you right then and there. i dont believe you can do something like this in WOW. i dont remember seeing somethin like this anyways.
getting quests and stuff in WOW is also, well, dumb. the only thing that happens when you talk to a "quest-giver" if you will, is that you have to read this scroll thing to see what you have to do for that quest. you do this over and over for each quest you encounter. read, read, read. no action. in FFXI, there are stories. the game actually breaks off and shows you a segment of interaction between characters while you read their conversation. the characters actually move and multiple screenshots commence. you dont read some stupid scroll.
lets see, what else...
FFXI- oh, about soloing. im a huge solo individual. i like doin alotta stuff on my own. granted it takes a little longer, but i have fun doin it and the sense of accomplishment is wonderful. ive hardly had any help in the game because, well, i dont really want it, but ive accomplished many tasks. FFXI tells you how long youve been playin the game, and the last time i checked, i think i was at like 35-40 days maybe of total playing time. ive completed a ton of quests, both in my home town and in others. i always hear how people who are higher levels than me havent completed certain quests, and i completed them so long ago. quests are fun and get more and more intersting as you go along in the game. plus, remember that theres that story thing, which helps in making it more entertaining. also, you get 6 jobs to level when you begin, and well, herres a list of what mine are.
WAR-31
WHM-30
BLM-25
MNK-20
THF-20
RDM-18
plus i have that summoner job remember, which i have at level.... yep, you guessed it, 20. and this is all only after that 35-40 day time span or whatever. i like to keep em even for some reason. i see peeps wit lvl 30 jobs, but their other jobs are 1, or 10. why? iduno, whatever.
WOW- for soloing, umm... i thought the party system was difficult. it was hard to communicate wit party members (communication thing again) and also difficult to keep track of them. i was in a few parties, but figured that i was better off soloing. and even there, soloing isnt that fast for leveling. the quests were very repetative. kill 5 rats. kill 10 wolves. kill 50 gorillas. i mean, who wants to do that over and over? oh, and you hafta always bend down and pick up items that you recieve after killing a monster, where as in FFXI, you recieve the item automatically, without doing anything.
ok, this is gettin long.
there are more things to compare/complain about, like the mapping system in WOW(bad) vs FFXI, or the fact that you can only do one job in WOW vs numerous jobs in FFXI, but this has kinda gotten outta hand.
i hope this helps some1, if any1 at all, but either way, it was fun for me. hooray for FFXI!

graphics:
-whoever thinks FFXI has worse graphics than WoW is crazy...WoW looks like im playing a cartoon. i cant imagine it being real, even in the slightest. the enemies are all unrealistic, as are most of the characters. ffxi on the other hand, has believable characters AND enemies. and it looks good.
FFXI

WoW:

gameplay:
-again, FFXI wins. FFXI is never-ending, even once you reach the highest lv (75). there is still ballista (ballista royale was recently held...a HUGE competition between EVERY server), hundreds of quests, and many other jobs to complete. WoW has what? you expressed it yourself: once you get too high, its boring. FFXI is the complete opposite.
ease of use:
-take a look at the pictures again. you can tell which is worse by the pictures.
WoW wasnt even worth the money to me. FFXI, i would have payed about 25 a month for. get FFXI, you wont regret it.

Warrior - 30
Monk - 18
White Mage - 7
Paladin - 7
Paladin is my advanced job which I'm currently going to try and bring all the way up. There's lots more to do than just leveling up as well. There are quests you can do at certain points in the game. Here are some really important quests:
Level 18 - Subjob quest. This will enable you to have a subjob (very important).
Level 20 - Chocobo quest. You can ride chocobos, making travel much easier.
Level 25 - Kazham Airship Pass. Let's you get to a new area of the game.
Level 30 - Major accomplishment at level 30. You can now do all of the advanced job quests. Granted, each of these quests takes a good three hours to do, you probably will want to start by doing only one. I did the paladin quest.
There are also missions, which are different from quests. Missions are the more important tasks in the game. You start out at Rank 1. There are three missions per rank. So if you finish the first three missions, you move to rank 1. Then rank 2, and finally rank 3. I've spent a lot more time doing quests and missions than I have just leveling up.
I think the community in FFXI is great. Everyone is so nice, and it's easy to find help for whatever you are trying to do. If you die in FFXI, there is punishment. You lose about 10% of your experience towards the next level. There's no punishment in WoW, which makes dieing not a big deal.
FFXI is huge... Quests are endless, people are nice, lots to explore, and it's just an overall amazing game.

FFXI is far too slow for my taste, which is why I will invariably say that WoW is better. Less options, true enough, but the actual gameplay is fun as hell. Its not just a level grind with quests thrown in, PvP adds an aspect to the game that FFXI can't mimic because its battle system sucks.
Thats completely opinionated.
