The Death Icon : (Yesterday, 07:26 PM) I also rented Nocturne when I was a child, and the only rpg I had played before that was FF7. I was maybe 6 or 7. I loved nocturne.
Soul Reaver Icon : (Yesterday, 07:05 PM) Nocturne was one of the first real RPGs I'd played. I didn't find it "brutal and unforgiving."
Sigs Minock Icon : (Yesterday, 06:55 PM) there's a complete difficulty gap there... Nocturne is brutal and unforgiving, Persona 3/4 cakewalk in comparison
Sigs Minock Icon : (Yesterday, 06:54 PM) I don't think SMT will get as popular as FF has. just wait until some noob starts with Persona 3 and/or 4 and gets SMT Nocturne
Sigs Minock Icon : (Yesterday, 06:54 PM) I don
Soul Reaver Icon : (Yesterday, 06:14 PM) I used to love the SMT franchise, but then it just got so mainstream and popular now it totally sucks.
Sigs Minock Icon : (Yesterday, 05:32 PM) 4,827 times, i bet
Albireo Icon : (Yesterday, 04:25 PM) Wonder how many times Snow is gonna say 'hero' throughout the game.
Raincoat Icon : (Yesterday, 01:26 PM) Lucky ducks.
Nocinderella Icon : (Yesterday, 12:45 PM) ARGGGGGH still too poor!!!!!!

Soul Reaver Icon : (Yesterday, 03:39 AM) PS3 Fail!
Metonymy Icon : (Yesterday, 02:19 AM) SO PISSED.
Soul Reaver Icon : (08 March 2010 - 11:48 PM) I'm most impressed by the difficulty of even some of the regular encounters. The need to switch up Paradigms makes even regular fights interesting.
Kingdom Icon : (08 March 2010 - 11:41 PM) I'm impressed so far. To all you skeptics, ##### you.
Sigs Minock Icon : (08 March 2010 - 11:16 PM) [not saying much] i'll still be here...
Chalryn Icon : (08 March 2010 - 10:50 PM) So I suspect the forums will be deader than usual for the next few weeks, while everyone takes time off to grind through FF XIII? Haha.
Seluna Icon : (08 March 2010 - 10:37 PM) "If it didn't have Final Fantasy in the title and wasn't SE, I highly doubt some people here would be being so negative on it. " So very true.

OKAY!!! I hav been away for quite sometime~
During tis period of time i hav do some research on suiko too and i saw MANY,
JUS TOO MANY articles and reports complaining bout Suiko IV~
From Other Forums, sites, game mag, etc etc...

Mostly complain about suiko IV Had lead most players of the first 3 series to great dissapointment,
it was such a let down that 35% of the players lose faith in the suiko series,
13% out of the 47 demaned refunds, the rest of the 53% enjoyed the game,
HOWEVER! 25% out of the 43% of played enjoyed due to not yet played the first 3.
and the rest 22% was neutral to the game.
Which means every 5 suiko players, 2 was new to suiko history, 2 hated it(1 demanded refund),
and 1 neutral.( Tis is from one of the articles)

A survey was done on the Suikoden IV players whether they will continue support on Suikoden
Majority of the replys were negative.

Apart of that, Previous suikoden supporters had already received quite a dissapointment of Suiko III
Compared to the first 2 BUT its not as servere as Suiko IV.

Yes... Suikoden IV was a good game ALONE itself But... Do U think Konami did the good move of making suiko IV? Do u think that Suikoden IV is really So NOT WORTH to play???
For myself, i am fine with the game but... wat about u?

Llew~

Actually, I enjoyed the game. But like any other game it has it's flaws. I was not very big on the whole boat thing. All the places were spread out so far that it took forever to get to them. Thus causing you to be attacked every 5 seconds. I was never happier to get Viki. By the time I got to the end I was just so sick of battling I didn't even want to beat the game. But I did enjoy the overall storyline. This may be simply because I had no prior expectations and didn't compare it to the other three games.

No prior expections? >O Thats usually a first because the first two had such an impact, and the third had...a bigger one considering people disliked it so heavily, and the fourth was even WORSE off. It must've been hard to have not be very comparitive of the others.

The boat concept was what I thought to be so "meh". It made me think of Skies of Arcadia, but actually on water. That and the fact that the cities were terribly underdeveloped. Maybe it was because it took place earlier than the other three, it seemed less in development with the world.

Actually reguardless of the predacessors of the game it's still it's own game and that's how I view any game I play. Whether it's in a great series or a horribly sucky one. It helps me not have such high expectations for a game that could possibly turn out horrible in my opinion. And I find that a lot of the games I play do turn out favorable in my opinion.

Now, the boat concept was meh to quote you. It didn't remind me of Skies of Arcadia at all. The boat was slow even at full speed and the distance between everything was so much it just got old. For the lack of a better term.

Its rather a clever idea to hold down on expectations. Though the seperated opinion does help from high expectations, the fact that the media hype from fans and whatnot would already raise hype in its own. Which is actually why I tend to not look at news too often about games. XD Suiko 4 had quite a bit of talk surrounding it for a while before it was released, I found it hard to not keep it out of ears-reach on news.

But you are absolutely 100% right MS. ♥ Now I will shut up.

It isn't perfert, thus my disappointment. But looking back, neither of our favourite titles in the series were any more perfect than this one.

The original poster's statistics is rather unreliable because of the low sample, honestly.

I can list a million things that I liked or disliked about the game, but that won't change anybody's opinion anyway.

The bottomline is: I enjoyed both S3 and S4, adored Rhapsodia, and will definitely continue to look forward for S5. Feel free to quit the series if you feel left out by Konami not keep remaking the same old games over and over. wub.gif

Suikoden IV was a huge dissappointment, but I can't see where people get off saying Suikoden III was a dissappointment. The character developement and plot and music and action is all there.

But that's what Suikoden IV lacked, the characters and the emotion and the villain. I personally disliked the game, and I didn'tl ose faith in the series, but I'm somewhat apprehensive about buying the next one, because all too often games change their games for no reason at all. To appeal more to the modern public or whatever, and don't realize the oldschool way is the best way to go

Meh Suikoden 4 did lack a bad guy. I knew nothing about Cray to start with nor did I even realize that he was the final bad guy until almost the end. The main character may not have spoke but I used a lot of that to my imagination to figure out what he was like. It did really shock me in Rhaposida when he was overly talkative (infact, mix the characters enough and he would barely shut up) But I'm not saying that's what you should have done. It was what worked for me to kind of help push him along as the main character in the game.

The same could be said as for me. We all have our opinions. I like hearing them on the game versus sitting there yelling you don't like it you are a horrible Suiko fan tongue.gif .. There's bound to be disappointments in every series to every fan. Whether it's due to comparing them to previous titles, too high of expectations, or they really are just horrible.

But meh.. I'll quit ranting now

I've been through this with a few friends of mine a number of times. Haha. The only thing I have to say about it is this: I enjoyed this game very much, and still enjoy it whenever I play it. I will totally admit that it was the worst in the series, and that there were several things missing from it that were in the other games, BUT, I still enjoy the game and consider it a pretty good game.

Nope, can't say that I liked this game ALOT.
Boat thingy was just annoying, too many random encounters, a very bland story, the main character is weird, especially when he runs, the animations of the runes were just sad.

So many thingsn I didn't liked, I did enjoyed the game untill some point, but it was too short and not well balanced.
I think that Suikoden IV was just some sort of test of Konami.

All your opinions made sure I would never buy this game let alone play it. Thanks for saving me 50 bucks. =D

And Suikoden III at first was a dissappointment because I compared too heavily to Suikoden II. I expected more returning players, and I wanted it to be tied to the second game in some way. This didn't happen. My opinion quickly changed when I got to chapter 5 with all characters. Now my save file is over 101 hours @_@. Suikoden III was a darn good game.
Kaleo though you are long gone..I'll always love you.

I compared Suikoden III too much to Suikoden II too, so I didnt like the game much at my first play through. When I played it again I realised what a great game it really is.
That doesnt go for Suikoden IV though cause that game sucked.

I thought it would bebetter, but the story wasn't really all that great in the end. As for the battle system, it was nice that they returned to the old one but a four man formation cannot cut it with me. If people complained about Suikoden III, they would thik that was better than this game.

I first played suikoden 2 and then suikoden 3,i was disopointed becouse it was all 3D and i didnt want to play with Tomas but they did put Many true runs and it was good. And then i played suikoden 4 and it was good and then i saw Runing of a main characher and i lough and the main characher dont talk (like he is stupid or something). The good thing is that they did put Ted(from suikoden 1).
IN THE END SUIKO 4 IS BETHER THEN SUIKO 3!

How is Suikoden IV better than Suikoden III? IV lacks any of the qualities that III had. The battle system on III was hell of alot better than IV, I mean IV seemed to be FF (input number here) clone. They showed some creativity there. Sure Thomas' story wasn't all that great, but it was an interesting thing they did have more than one character. While IV it was like watching a low budget movie that you couldn't stand.
