As we all know, there is a new Fire Emblem coming out for the Wii, little has been said about it and the video offers little to show you the basic story line, but I have a little spark to add in. It is highly possible that this is an FE9 prequel, or even a sequal, especially given the fact that Int. Sys. always makes two games in each Fire Emblem setting. Anyways, we've all seen the video (HERE) And have seen the characters taking place in the video, one happening to look like a thief, the other mage. Anyways, I happen to think that The boy main character happens to look like Sothe from FE9 (Path of Radiance), Soth is the character found on Nasir's ship in Chapter 12.

I am not the only onw who thinks this because Ive also come across a person who has said this, "The boy looks like Sothe from FE9. I bet it's about Sothe trying to find his friend."

And no, he doesnt just look like Sothe just because he is the same Thief class, because Volke, who you discover in Chapter 10 is also a Thief(at first), and his clothing and style are completely different. Do you think there is any connection? Do you happen to think that this character in the FE video looks like Sothe? nocomment.gif

I have tried to get into these games, but I just can't seem to do it. I have the one first GBA and GC one, but I just can't sit there and play them. I should really give them another chance. I've also heard that the second one on GBA is really good, but I want to finish the other one before I move on to that one.

LunarMaster, they're not connected, so the Sacred Stones might be a bit easier to get into, because... well, it's actually ten times easier than FE7 (the first American FE on GBA) even on Hard mode. The only difference between it and FE7's gameplay is the branched promotions and trainees. It's not nearly as good as it gets credit for being, though because the branched promotion is terribly unbalanced (no incentive for not being a Great Knight over Paladin, etc).

Anyway. It can't be a prequel, because Sothe looks at least 5 to 10 years older than he did in FE9. I always thought that the reason he couldn't promote was because assassin didn't fit his character, but I guess it was because he would be promotable in the sequel.

The only "real" sequel to a Fire Emblem game was Fire Emblem 3's Book 2, which was the sequel to Book 1 and the original Fire Emblem. Fire Emblem 5 was a mid-quel (took place between Generation 1 and Generation 2 (actually, overlapping somewhat) of Fire Emblem 4), Fire Emblem 7 was a prequel to 6, and 2 and 8 are unrelated to any game in the series. Both did weird things with promotion, interestingly enough.

Sequels are harder to do in games like this, mostly because of the promotion system. When you played Book 2 of Fire Emblem 3 after beating Book 1, and you promoted Cain but not Abel, you'd start out with Cain, and he'd be unpromoted, and later on would get a promoted Abel and the like. Also, characters die for good in Fire Emblems and the new support system's open endedness would be kind of ruined when the canonical ones are shown in sequels.

Sort of like, Fire Emblem 5 proved that Fury's official pairing was with Levin, so Levin didn't end up with Sylvia. The game had a sort of love triangle between them in FE4. Same thing with Claude, who apparently ended up getting Sylvia, as his son appeared in Fire Emblem 5, too. The same with Lachesis and Finn, although Beowulf somehow managed to get himself in the middle of that O_o.

Although it doesn't really matter.

FE9's plot was screaming for a sequel, so I'm glad it's getting one. And hopefully it won't be as half assed as FE8 and FE9 were.

THIS is my version of HAMLET.
I still hear that Glenn Beck raped and killed a girl in 1990.

Finally, Sothe is getting the kind of attention that he sorely needs.

On that note, remember that FE2 is a side story to FE1&3, and all three games took place in the same world. Only the Sacred Stones that's on its own so far.

Heh, I really liked Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, so I would be glad if there was a sequel. I wouldn't really be shocked either, since the game did give a hint or two about being one around the ending. And if that is Sothe and he happens to be that bad ass, than that is great, since I really did not care about him too much in the other one.

I happen to really like the Fire Emblem on GBA and Gamecube. Sort of similar to Final Fantasy Tactics, but with an interesting twist. I remember the game to be quite frusterating because you didn't want to lose any characters and if one died in battle, there was no way to get them back. That was always a pain.

I am looking forward to the new game, which just brings me more desire to get a Wii.

The two characters above will be two of the main characters in next year's Fire Emblem for the Wii. The male character is Sothe. The female character, named Ilyana, is a magician. The bird seen in the picture accompanies her and might just be a part of the Laguz race.

Is that by any chance the same Ilyana from Path of Radiance?

This could prove to be interesting. They managed to make Sothe suck in Path of Radiance (since he couldn't upgrade), but it'll be interesting to see a thief be the main character in a FE game. Looking forward to this.

Props to somebody I don't know for this one. Jeff Dunham is amazing.

That can't be Ilyana. She had different eye color. And a slightly different face shape. And she had nothing to do with birds, except for her insane hunger for stuff, so she might've eaten a lot.

...

Hiku, where did you get the info that they're the central focus?
I seriously doubt it. Because Sothe's pretty much a nobody. All previous main characters of all other Fire Emblems (excluding 2, that one was odd in so many aspects, it's a black sheep) had some sort of a position and reputation.

Marth was a prince.
Sigurd was in a royal house, Celice was in a royal house and related through his mother to the royal family. Leaf was a prince of Lestern. Roy was a member of a royal house. Eliwood was a member of a royal house. Ephraim and Eirika were prince and princess. Ike was the son of a mercenary captain, so he did get respect much like nobility just by being related to Gawain.

Sothe's...
Not much of anything. We know he wants to be a knight in Daein, but Daein's systems were most likely changed after King Ashnard was killed, as he's the one who initiated the whole "Good fighter becomes general" deal.

It's kind of nonsensial.

I think they were just the first artworks made.

He'd probably follow Ike's footsteps at not being some kind of prince or nobility. Some traditions are meant to be broken, anyhow.

Plus, why single out FE2? Alm and Cellica were both the heir to the two kingdoms that existed on the continent of Barensia. Bah, you probably didn't know that. wub.gif

Oh man, if this game is indeed set in the same universe like Path of Radiance, I know I will get this game. I loved that particular Fire Emblem and I would like to know what happened to that world.

And personally, I do not see it unbelievable that Sothe could be the main focus. Even though Ike was the son of Gawain, he was still really a nobody until he started to lead the mercenary group. During the game he started as just another mercenary and built his way up to the leader and then commander. I could see it happening again, a character who starts off as no one special and become a leader of some army.

Meh. I never beat FE2. It was very slow going, and I couldn't get into it. But seriously, this was Alm's story's start.

Master: Okay, you're done training.
Alm: Yay.
Neighbors: Soldier come to town.
Soldier: Waaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!
Alm: Yay!
Neighbors: Yay!

...
That's what I understood of it.
FE2 was a weird game, though.

I still don't see Sothe as the main focus. He's not very hero like at all, being a thief. Being very inept at battle in FE9, and with the way he talks and acts, he's just not much to him.
Meh. I just don't think he's main character stuff. Especially with Fire Emblem standards. All the heros were... heroic. Not thieves, who tend to be rather cowardly, or greedy, see Legault (despised by his former comrades due to the sneakiness and treachery of his work), Volke and Rennac (the former charges you whenever you pick a lock, the latter runs off from his employer to steal stuff). I could name more examples, such as Rifis, or Deu, and ways in which they are not hero like at all. Sothe isn't either.

Anyway.

I do hope either Ike is the hero, or some new character completely.
I also hope that this game ties up loose ends, and uses something like Capturing, or something fun like that.
