Ok. I just bought an X Box because I was finally able to justify the expense, and now I have a couple of questions. First of all: I've noticed that when I turn the system off, it remains warm to the touch rather than cooling off completely like say the PS2 or the Gamecube does. Is this normal, or is it something to be concerned about? I went and looked on the X Box website and I don't think it has anything to do with the power cord (the console was manufactured about a year after the date they give of October 23, 2002, on the site). And secondly, due to the constant warmth, I've taken to unplugging the X Box when it isn't in use. Will this cause any sort of deletion or corruption of my save data on the system?

I don't know about your problem, Armaros. I've had my Xbox since the day it was released, and it doesn't stay warm like you mention.
I leave the thing on overnight when I go to bed sometimes, and it's fine. I never got one of those replacment power cables, either.
It's only crashed once, and that was during networked Halo, a year or so ago.
Maybe the very frist batches for launch were higher quality than the ones that followed shortly after, trying to cut down production costs?
Maybe I'm just lucky.

I got mine when it first came out and it was never warm to the touch but I did have to order a new cord so it wouldn't spontaniously combust. Do you have that new power cord or do you still have the original one because it could have something to do with that...
Just unplug it when you're not playing it.

Screw that, that would mean having to set the clock every time you play, and that's just plain annoying.
Even if it's warm to the touch, shouldn't be of concern. As long as it doesn't crash, it's all gravy; being warm to the touch isn't neccesarily a bad thing. Same thing happens to my slim PS2 and that's never crashed.

Really? I think my PS2 always remembers the clock, even if I unplug it. So do most cell phones, and I always wondered how they could do that.

As we all know, Im the big X-box fanboy who know's everything, and has the sexy Halo Special Edition X-box. Anyways, I bought my Halo xbox after the date of the bad cords October 23, 2002 I think anyways, I did do the whole code thing on the website. I leave it on all night, every night, and It is on most of the time im in my room, mainly for music. I have never really checked to see if it was still warm after I shut it off, because I dont care that much, Im not really sure how the regular X-box cooling system works, but I will check my Xbox and see what happens. The xbox cooling systems have been improved by some 3rd party companies, if you're interested in that, and the 360 recently received the 3rd party Liquid Cooling system.
There have been some "do-it-yourself solutions", CoolIT Systems will offer a retail liquid cooling solution in the future. The company will be showing off a liquid cooled Xbox 360 at the CES 2006 show in Las Vegas and could enter the retail market if enough interest is shown.
Although it is a 3rd party invention, it may be worth it, and if it really works, Im sure we will see it as a 1st party instalation in consoles if it really helps from burning houses down that much.
As I said, I will check out my Xbox and see if it has the same cooling problem. All I can say is, defective cooling fan, your house is dirty and the dust and dirt floating in the air has caught your fan, or Microsoft just sucks and you should buy a 3rd party cooling system for it. Enjoy.

Yes, unplugging and resetting the date and time it is annoying but I do that...well I have no choice because no matter where I set it up my mum always unplugs it and puts it away
But yea, the Xbox's harddrive always makes you reset the clock as Lem said.
And yea, all consoles get warm but if they get too hot then you can start to worry. Your Xbox is fine, especially if you have that new cord as I do.
