Personally, I love the variance, I don't think it matters if people don't like others' taste. It's a reality and there's no loss to anyone who listened, they either like it or they don't. I'm pretty sure most of us know that our choice won't be popular, but we'll share because it's something that we're happy to administer regardless. If all of us had, for example an inclination for 'Punk Rock' in common, it would kind of kill the thread with band after band being from the same genre.

Not necessarily. Simply knowing what kinds of music everyone listens to, you can use that knowledge to pick out various attributes from different styles of music to recommend different kinds of music that may interest someone even if it's not entirely their usual cup of tea, so to speak.
Often (maybe even in most cases), when someone decides to expand their area of interest in something, it's a gradual process by finding things that are similar, but different from their usual interests. So, with that in mind, it helps to know what kinds of musical elements to look for when you're going to suggest something to others. Some may be more similar, and some may be less similar, but if it works, it works.
...If nothing else, I would, personally, rather not waste everyone's time with the failures that my suggestions have been so far, so if anyone wants to share some info on their interests or examples, I'd be grateful. Currently, I'm only vaguely aware of the interests of a small few of the members here. =\

Unless it's rap I agree.

"I made a deal with the devil Jimmy, She dies... I go free... "
"We all got our choices to make"
"Damn shame"

You post new tunes, something that you hope that everyone else is unaware of and that you, yourself enjoy. I would find it a waste of time, to pick an album that you based off others' preferences more so than your own, it sounds too much like trying to be a crowd-pleaser when you just want to broaden their horizons as Tony said. I just see it as going "Hey, I like this album, I hope you like it too. Awesome if you do, but no hard feelings if you don't!"
IAMX were a surprise to me, I don't listen to electronic/pop music at all... Ever. But after forcing myself to listen through to the end, there were definitely songs that I liked. August Burns Red are from a genre that I have and can listen to, but I didn't like their sound.

If you're really that concerned, then I'll start by saying that I can like almost everything and anything. I just won't stand for genres that I find to be almost meaningless mockeries of what their music genre should be: overly gangster styled rap or modern mainstream pop/R&B.
But really, I wouldn't worry too much about it, Chal. This is just for fun really. At least, I'm finding it a merry experience =)

Since I would never listen to electronics, I would never have listened to IAMX if not for Tony's suggestion. I hated it, but in listening to it I did a little research on what electronica is all about, and I learned a fair amount about it. I'll never listen to IAMX again, to be honest, but I'm glad he posted it.
If we all posted our tastes, and no one liked electronic stuff, would he still have posted IAMX? Who knows!
I like a lot of metal, but I don't think any submission should be tailored to that.
Nocindy, I'm sorry I haven't listened to your suggested album yet! I've been insanely busy the last two weeks, and I will get to hearing it whenever I can!
At the speed of light, I will be sighted
