Let me double-check here: The whole point of this thing is to introduce some new tunes to everyone, right? If that's the case, shouldn't we probably share what kinds of music we generally listen to in this topic when we sign up, so that we have a general idea of what to post when the time comes? So far, I haven't noticed a whole lot of positive responses (from the few who have responded to the albums), so maybe we should familiarize ourselves with what each other listen to. Or is the purpose more along the lines of broadening horizons?

The purpose is more along the lines of broadening horizons. I mean, even if I think I'll hate one of the albums I'll listen to it and maybe a few tracks or something will grow on me. Who knows?

Alrighty. Just checking, since, as said above, I haven't noticed many major hits lately, lol. It's kinda rough, since our tastes all vary so much. D: I guess we'll see how things go further down the road.

Personally, I love the variance, I don't think it matters if people don't like others' taste. It's a reality and there's no loss to anyone who listened, they either like it or they don't. I'm pretty sure most of us know that our choice won't be popular, but we'll share because it's something that we're happy to administer regardless. If all of us had, for example an inclination for 'Punk Rock' in common, it would kind of kill the thread with band after band being from the same genre.

Well, given that the purpose of the club is to introduce new tunes to others, it'd be kinda pointless to just post something that you know nobody else would like. Personally, if I'm gonna post something, I'd rather it be something that at least one or two people may actually enjoy. Otherwise, why bother? It's a waste of time for both parties if nobody even remotely likes it.

Not necessarily. Simply knowing what kinds of music everyone listens to, you can use that knowledge to pick out various attributes from different styles of music to recommend different kinds of music that may interest someone even if it's not entirely their usual cup of tea, so to speak.

Often (maybe even in most cases), when someone decides to expand their area of interest in something, it's a gradual process by finding things that are similar, but different from their usual interests. So, with that in mind, it helps to know what kinds of musical elements to look for when you're going to suggest something to others. Some may be more similar, and some may be less similar, but if it works, it works.

...If nothing else, I would, personally, rather not waste everyone's time with the failures that my suggestions have been so far, so if anyone wants to share some info on their interests or examples, I'd be grateful. Currently, I'm only vaguely aware of the interests of a small few of the members here. =\

Unless it's rap I agree.

You post new tunes, something that you hope that everyone else is unaware of and that you, yourself enjoy. I would find it a waste of time, to pick an album that you based off others' preferences more so than your own, it sounds too much like trying to be a crowd-pleaser when you just want to broaden their horizons as Tony said. I just see it as going "Hey, I like this album, I hope you like it too. Awesome if you do, but no hard feelings if you don't!"

IAMX were a surprise to me, I don't listen to electronic/pop music at all... Ever. But after forcing myself to listen through to the end, there were definitely songs that I liked. August Burns Red are from a genre that I have and can listen to, but I didn't like their sound.

If you're really that concerned, then I'll start by saying that I can like almost everything and anything. I just won't stand for genres that I find to be almost meaningless mockeries of what their music genre should be: overly gangster styled rap or modern mainstream pop/R&B.

But really, I wouldn't worry too much about it, Chal. This is just for fun really. At least, I'm finding it a merry experience =)

I prefer not knowing anyone's musical taste, myself. If a person who likes metal likes what I post, cool, if someone who hates metal likes what I post, even better. But it's about learning about other music.

Since I would never listen to electronics, I would never have listened to IAMX if not for Tony's suggestion. I hated it, but in listening to it I did a little research on what electronica is all about, and I learned a fair amount about it. I'll never listen to IAMX again, to be honest, but I'm glad he posted it.

If we all posted our tastes, and no one liked electronic stuff, would he still have posted IAMX? Who knows!
I like a lot of metal, but I don't think any submission should be tailored to that.

Nocindy, I'm sorry I haven't listened to your suggested album yet! I've been insanely busy the last two weeks, and I will get to hearing it whenever I can!

Let's get a focus group together so we can tailor our music suggestions to best suit everyone's taste!

It's not like I was saying I think it's how the whole group should be. :S Just saying that's what I, personally, aim for (to an extent) here. I'm just trying to suggest new tunes that some of you may like, whether it's very similar to your usual tastes or less so.
