Today at Sony Gamers Day, Sony reveal some more details on Final Fantasy XI and it's Hard Drive. The most important revelation for rpg fans was the price of both the Hard Drive and Final Fantasy XI. It appears that Final Fantasy XI will not be sold separately but as part of a bundle package with the Sony Hard Drive. The bundle package will include product demos, media player, and other stuff that have yet to be revealed. The bundle is expected to be available around first quarter next year around March.
What's the price? The bundle package will be going at a suggested price of $99. The monthly subscription costs of Final Fantasy XI will be about $12.95 a month.
Final Fantasy XI will be the Square Enix first online rpg game that will draw Final Fantasy fans together on an adventure regardless of what platform they are using. PC or Sony Playstation Online.

Yep. When this is released it will also mark my retirement from Phantasy Star Online. And the online fee is quite nice, too bad so many cheap americans wont be willing to pay that much though. And I was expecting it to be a bundle. Sony(and square) probably figured that it would be too costly if they were bought seperatly, as you still have to get the network adapter.
I shall get the network adapter next month, to be sure that I have it when it is released. Cause I know once the game is released, these will be as rare as the memory card was when it was released.

Yes, Final Fantasy XI will indeed be on the PS2. The hardrive will be on the PS2 as well. The Network adapter is already in stores for buying.

FFXI is an online only game. So if you plan on getting this, be sure that you have the needed money and accessories, or otherwise you will have an unplayable game.
I wish this game was released now!! I wanna play it!

Hey! I agree that FFXI will probably bomb in the U.S, due mainly to the price. However, since I am a hardcore rpg player, I am aniticipating its arrival. Also, don't forget that FFX-2 comes out in early November!!!

I fear getting this game without high speed interent. I am still stuck with crapy Dial Up. Also for me to be able to play this I will need a Pre Paid Game Card.. But FFXI has yet to make one for FFXI. So I am without Final Fantasy XI for a long time.

the network adaptor is for the ps2 to connect online.
the hardrive for you to install the disk, and keep track of your stats in the game.
you also might also need a usb mouse, and keyboard! so add that to your list of expences and most likely it will cost in total about $150+ minus the game cost

I'm very eager to start playing this game as well! I just purchased a Radeon 9800 , which im gonna overclock to a pro just for Ffxi (and HL2).
To whoever plans on playing FFXI:
All of my friends are too cheap to pay for the monthly fee, so im gonna be alone when I start 5 days from now. If anyone would like to get together to level, or even to start a clan or somethin, please let me know
also, if there's already a topic about ffxi get togethers, please make me aware!

Hmm i also read editorial on FFXI In which the company purchased a Japanese PS2, the game, the hard drive and network adapter. They explained that you actually install the game on your hard drive, and it was stated that after the game is installed you can actually play the game without the disc. You just go through you browser and select the game. It was also stated that the game data takes a big chunk of memory card space as well. I cant remember exactly where i read this, it was either RPGfan, or Game-Revolution, but this was several months ago.

If i remember correctly, you can use the HD for the PS2 as a memory card.

Hmmmm... I can't wait for this game, but i wonder, where would you plug in the mouse and keyboard? If you plug them into the PS2, where would your controller go? Do you even need a controller? My e-mail is Rabbitking7qx@aol.com if anyone wants to talk about FFXI! :whoa:

You're paying once more for the upkeep of the servers and whatnot...SqareEnix is running the servers this time....And besides, we dont want this to end up like Socom I....
Well, half of you already know I got the network adapter last year...and reserved a copy of XI...I forsaw this....I know it's gonna be hard as heck to get the budle pack off the shelves....Yes, the HDD will be 40 gigs and can be used as a memory card. ( Which a need badly) I hear it'll have pre-loaded game demos, media player, and other extras. You should be able to get updates and new demos via the network adapter / ethernet connection. ...What else?....Of course, it's internal...

Ah, pay as you play is hard but worth it. They are able to keep the game fair and free of hackers. also the servers will be clean and run well. Socom II is prolly on of the first free servers that actually doesn't require pay. But the aspect and size of FXI requires that they charge. the servers themselves must cost thousands to run......
Peace!
