As announced a few weeks ago, November 19, 2003 was the date that Square Enix had set where they would have a get together with certain members of the public and news media to reveal first details on Final Fantasy XII. One day later, early details of Final Fantasy XII have surface. These include details on the characters of FFXII and the story behind FFXII and of course some official screenshots.

In terms of the story, FFXII takes place in a world called Ivalice. A world that was featured in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. The story center's around two characters by the name of Vaan, a 17 year old male character, and Ashe, a 19 year old female character. Vaan and Ashe both come from the Damaska Kingdom which is occupied by the Arcadia Empire. Vaan tragic past include losing his family to the Arcadia Empire during their conquest of the Damaska Kingdom. His goals in life include becoming an air pirate and owning his own ship in hopes of escaping the Arcadia Empire. Ashe on the other hand has a more majestic background in that she was the princess of the Damaska Kingdom before it was conquered by the Arcadia Empire. Her father was killed by the Empire. After the war, Ashe formed a resistance group fighting to rid Damaska Kingom of the occupying Empire. She, of course meets up with Vaan during her struggle to free Damaska. The main plot pretty much stems from the struggle of Damaska against it's occupation by the Arcadia Empire.

Other noticeable characters are trademark Final Fantasy characters such as Cid and Moogles. Of course it will be a different Cid from previous FF games and the Moogles will look different from previous versions. New characters include the introduction of Judges who oversees law and order in battles and deal punishment on those that disobey the law. These Judges are known as Knights of Terror.

In terms of setting, FFXII has a middle-age Mediteranian backdrop with lots of CG movies. Expect the graphics to even be better than Square's last real original Final Fantasy game, FFX. With characters designs to be even more detailed. The game
also will consist of voice acting as like with FFX.

Musically speaking not much was revealed but there will be a theme song at the end of the game. Something that FFX was missing. But unlike before, such as with FFIX where you just hear the song with lyrics, this time around it will be something new but no details was given as to what this new is.

In the end, Square Enix gave us a small glimpse of what is expected to come in terms of story, character and even music. No real details were revealed in terms of battle system yet. But one can expect an entirely new battle system as with all the other FF games.

Has it been revealed if Final Fantasy XII is a platform or Online game?

I don't know much about the last RPG's, but doesn't that plot sounds much like skies of arcadia???

Sounds interesting to hear, it does have that feeling with other RPG games such as FF Tactics, but still I hope to hear more.

*drinking her vanilla coke* I think it'll be a platform game. I personally think that one online game is enough, even though I'm not buying it. I'm only 16, and I definately don't have the money to keep up my own online account thingy. ^^

I hope they bring the world map back to the way they had it in VII and VIII, even after all these new games that are still really good, you can pop back in FFVII or VIII and just be blown away. I think Square needs to take a step back and look at what they had and the reason it did so well. It's great in FFX-2 they are bringing back the ATB in battles but I would like to see a more "old school" type approach to newer FF games.

Final Fantasy XII will be console, on the PS2. The only online games Square has for now are FFXI/Tetra Master and Cross Gate, but they're adding a few non-FF titles to that next year, such as their new mech-based game. The thing that gets me.. is the fact that XII is taking place in Ivalice. I never saw that coming.

how did you get this information, because why would it be like Ivalice on fft? I have heard it will be something like a second story of ff8.Like the girl character is Rinoa's sister. I think we should just wait and see..........

I think you are misinformed. It has nothing to do with FF8 story wise. The name of this world and the name of the one in FFTA are the same. But other then that it is said that they share the same name and nothing else. It's not the same world, its a completely new one and this information can be found on most gaming sites after SquareEnix officially released information about the game on the 19th.

Final Fantasy XII WILL NOT be an online game, it will be a 'regular' Final Fantasy game. The game is currently 70% done and Square-Enix is supposed to release more informations about it really soon since it's already near completion from what they said.

I liked Skies of Arcadia- and all manner of Final Fantasy. so much that my friends havn't seen my face in years.

chances are that final Fantasy XII will sell just fine- but there will be serious problems if square is getting lazy. it may just be enix's effect- I dont know.

all I do know is that there are way to many liscences and companies that have become just that: liscences and companies. I ask you: where has the goodness gone? where will they finally give up? where is the originality? are they out of Ideas after the whole 'law system' thing- or the excellent graphics? perhaps the voice acting?

(I like Graphics- and Voice acting- those are good things- but only if you have more to the game than those two things. especially plot. plot is kinda importaint.)

All I can say is that, in this day and age, the great creators are selling out, one by one.

first Squaresoft itself- merging with Enix.

then Nintendo warping the entire Mario theme from the classic "plumber who dodges barrels thrown by giant apes"

I guess what I'm trying to say is that... I love videogames. and thats why I'm critical. I care- and I want the pure awesomeness to go onto future generations so our doomed offspring can experience chocobo riding at its best.

I think Final Fantasy XII looks awsome! i like the rugged feel of the lands and the fact that you can see your surrounding, all 360 degrees, is amazing! but the've got to get rid of the main character Vaan, he looks to girly.

I THINK that this is cool that they are going to have another final fantasy that isn't stupid like FFXI ... and that they aren't doing something like FFX-2(even tho I think advent children is gonna frikken' own) or some other stupid stuff they do. man the chocobo looks sooooo coool. it looks like a real, over-sized chicken!!! I don't really like the judges they implemented in the series, but they do make battles more challenging. It's crazy if the judges put up a 'no healing' law during the battle. crazy.

Yes, it is true that Final Fantasy X! will come out on PS2 on March 23, 2003 I think. It is also the first PS2 game to require the hard drive add-on. [COLOR=red] By the way.. Final Fantasy XII looks awesome. I have some questions though. Are Vaan and Ashe the only characters you can get? Cuz in the pictures and on the website they only show them two fighting. This will kinda be a double edged dword if it is like. That way you wont have to worry about leveing all your characters up evenly (which I don't mind at all) but it will suck cuz that kinda defeats the purpose of final fantasy if you only have 2 people and it also limits the storyline, not allowing you to learn about the other players past. I don't know... we should just wait and see... (CANT WAIT)

Fortunatly enough for me I've played final fantasy XI online, accually I own it and would suggest those of you who have the big mouths to critisize it should definatly play it and then you can pick on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Final Fantasy XI is awsome! And to clear up the whole consle version debate yes it will be available for the ps2 but will still require an internet connection to play. Wow you guys are really lacking information, considering you seem to be harcore fans of the genre. FF12 has many things in common with FFTA, it also includes the races (4 of them) like bangaa. The battle system is being kept secretive. Whoever said it was a sequel to ff8, well don't take pills you find on the ground my friend. There are also two other characters, a bangaa who weilds a bow, and a human who uses a gun, I don't feel like elaborating now much. Chocobos have a darker side here, it's from the same director as ff9 (thank god), airships are similar to those in ff10-2, and this is a very deep and dark final fantasy game.

someone said that another character is a bangaa archer. Correction: it's not a bangaa, it's a viera archer. And what would a bangaa do with a bow? If FFXII and FFTA have some close similiarities in the races section then I doubt bangaas would be using bows. They're most likely good for monks, or gladiators, or defenders and the likes.

I would like to see elves in the game, but i doubt that's gonna happen.

My my, this is an old thread. Someone resurrected it after 2 months of inactivity, I believe it was Kenshin 90 something or other.

Anyway, bangaa don't wield bows and humans don't wield guns in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, so either you're lying about those two characters, or this game isn't going to tie very closely to FFTA.

I seriously doubt this game will follow-up FF8, I haven't heard anything from anyone else about that. From the images, it doesn't even look like he same time period as FF8.

In conclusion, the game looks like nothing I've ever seen before. Some traces of FFXI are visible, but for the most part, it look very unique. I think Vaan and Ashe look very strange, but I'll probably buy it.

I hope they restore some of the "old style" aspects. FFIX was supposed to do that but it stunk (mainly the characters).

As for XI, it may be good, (I don't have the money or internet for that sort of thing) but it's NOT Final Fantasy.

There is a rumor that they delayed the release date on FFXII because they wanted it to be for the PS3. At any rate, they're saying 2006 now .

oh god noooo... u have got to be kidding me right...and yeah hopefully it is only a rumor... my god.. they wanted to wait for PS3!!! they cant be serious... well as long it can be play in PS2 than im fine with it.. but to wait until 2006 that just to much tourture for us FF lover... waiting for 2005 for it already like hell... and now if its true for another year...blah

Honostly i think i would not mind the wait. If they want to wait for the PS3 that means that they wana put a lot of effort into making the game and or they want to put to use the 29 emotion engins that it will have with in it to make the game as fluid as possible

i dont get why square is always trying to do something new with the battle system each time... i mean, come on, bring back materia or the draw/stock system of ff8 or something! if it worked, why tey to change it? the sphere grid of X was awesome too, it allowed complete customization... why just throw it away?

It's creativity. If it stay one way all along some fans will say it's lame, or they don't have any new ideas, or anything like that. Besides, it's ok to change battle system each time, I like it that way better.

And if they are going to release FFXII for PS3, I think they will too release it for PS2, maybe the PS3 version is better or something, but I hope not.

Anyway, even if the PS3 released, the games for PS2 will be made and released until 8 years later. No worries..

That is not a sequel. I have that game actually.
They always make International editions for their Final Fantasy games in Japan with extra stuff.
For Final Fantasy 7 they did that after the US version got two extra bosses. Emerald and Ruby, not available in the original Japanese version.
Even Kingdom hearts got a extra version called Final Mix, with extra bosses and a special ending.
But it's the same game basically, and only available in Japan.
