Simple discussion. Do you think Paine was a decent character added to FFX-2, a great character, or somebody Square-Enix could of done without?

I personally find her to be cool (some of her comments are really awesome, and her wanting-to-fight is pretty funny). However, I don't think she fills the spot for, say...Lulu, or any of the other playable characters.

Thoughts?

She was my only motivation for finishing the game. The whole reason I found all Crimson Spheres, and the whole point of me not throwing this game against the wall whenever Yuna and Rikku spouted something completely moronic.

You said it all. XD Really, among the YRP, I think Paine was the only one who kept logic, reason and common sense in check. Yuna and Rikku were so sickeningly sugar-high and girly. Oh, and she also had the coolest catchphrases and pick-up lines among the three. And while she couldn't help but fall back in the past from time to time, she was also well-rooted in reality, at least.

She was a good character. She wasnt annoying like Yuna nor was Pained a pain. She fought well, and she added a lot of character to the game. And about the hot thing, no...lol

I personally think she was a great addition to the game.. well, because if they never added her to the game.. everything would have been the same.. No new places.. nothing to exciting.. but she threw in some mystery.. as well as a good fighter too. Her and Rikku were my two best fighters.

Hmmm, first vote for her annoyance. I didnt liked Paine that much, maybe is because i hated the game and everything in it but Paine became too forced of a character for me to enjoy, she was meant to be the badass of the group but she was to bland to be this, she was also meant to be one of girls and celebrated joyfully with the other two incredibly ripping away any real personality she could have had, they tried to make her a tough one but also a friendly one and that just doesnt add up. She just spawned jollyness with no real drive in it, if she could have had a decent development this wouldnt have been so bad but they shove you down with a new character with no real background into and make you discover her failling terribly at it. However, she was the least flawed character in the YRP team.

personally thats why i like her. she wasn't there to fill a possition or to take a place of a common character from the other game. she was origional and versatile that is exactly why i liked her. that and her die hard bitch attitiude was a great parallel to rikku's shinny happiness. people can only take so much friggin shiny happy you know.

When you think about it Paine is a lot like Squall towards the end. Knowing she would rather be alone, yet knowing she needs friends.. I personally have mixed feelings on this character as Razael said most of it.



In this case it didn't.. Their YRP chants.. She looked out of place totally. She kept the serious tone through out the game.. But the YRP thing was just plain silly and seeing her do that actually made me laugh out loud. If they were going to make her a loner they should have done so, otherwise curved her personality a tad bit more to the less loner side.

Now having said that, on the battlefield she was a great asset. She was strong, and good to have on the field especially towards the beginning of the game when you had to build the other two up.

She was too much like a rip off of Lulu for me to like her, although i loved it when she'd come out with sarcastic comments that really offended some of the people in Spira But overall she was a little too cliché for me.

Hmm have to agree here she was just a Lulu rip off it would have been nicer to see a more sarcastic Lulu and yes she was your typical i r goth character

I personally liked her, although she is basically a carbon copy of Lulu I still enjoyed having her in the game. I think she and Lulu are the hottest FF girls.

Paine was a pretty cool character. She was a lot better than the way Yuna and Rikku were in FFX-2.

Still, IMO, she doesn't replace Lulu by any means.

how could paine fill in with lulu-other than the obivous physical looks
lulu also specailized in magic-paine started off as a warrior so i guess she would have been really good as a warrior

I for one like her alot (my sig kinda says it all) But for some reason a few fans that I know don't like her at all without a good reason. But she's hands down one of my favorite FF characters.

Meh. I didn't really like LuLu in X, and the same is said for her basic counterpart,Paine.

She was the best out of the three(not looking). She stole Aurons role from FFX which pissed me off. The cool layed back, awesome fighter.

I liked her for the most part but i did find her annoying and even in the way at certain parts of the game but all in all she was a good character although she was only good at the warrior classes

Paine wasn't my favorite character but she was definitly Kick Ass!!!!

To me she is just a lulu in FF10-2. she keeps her head and if yuna and rikku got into troble she was the one to bail them out.

Yes I thought she was very hot and was one of the main reasons why i got and played through the game. She was also a decent character

She's a bad attempt at a lulu rehash... I found the way they attempt to shadow her personality between the omfg i r tuff! and the Ooooh I am so emo... was land and badly done and was a major contributor to why this game goes in the BAD GAME BIN.

She wasn't lesbian. You know very well that she was sekzing Baralai any chanse she got. It's in the Directors Cut version.

I on the other hand liked the bad ass quiet type character that Paine was.
I just missed Lulu though, that's all. Obviously she was the one to replace Lulu, but I think she did so in a good way.
Rikku was a bit to hyper and Yuna a bit angsty at time, so they needed someone sort of in between. More of a strong person, like Auron and Kihmari in FFX.

I thought she was pretty cool. In a way she had the same disposition as Lulu. I guess they made her that way to off set Rikku and Yuna's colorful attitudes.

Paine is Ok. I guess but Lenne and Shuin are the best! They have a small part but it is soooooo sad. I like sad things. Everyone I know says I look just Lenne and This hot guy at school looks like shuin!

Yea i totally agree with you ragnarock on that. She did steal the spot for Auron in FFX-2. Even though thats my oppinion I still think she was an exceptional character, but not like Auron or Lulu in FFX.

Never play the game, play the demo. But all I CAN say that she is the female version of Auron. A Badass chick. It something about a girl with a two-hands sword that is sexy.

she had no reason to be in the game. i mean come on people, a sphere hunter that just started crusing around with the characters from ff10? i think the makers of ff10-2 knew the game sucked and they just needed to fill it in with someone new that might add some different angles to it, but to me it just made the game seem even lamer. they really should have just kept someone from the first game as another main chractor.

i really liked her. her sarcastic remarks were so funny, it kinda kept me playing the game to find out HER past and if yuna could find tidus.

I always thought that she was auron without a penis, and a cheap ripoff auron too. did you notice on the boss battle on top of gagazet she directly ripped of aurons line with " It comes! " not her fault though really, since shes technically just a peice of data

Paine's personality was alittle more loose than Yuna's and Rikkus. She is definitly my kind of woman. Before SE made any info official on the characters roles, I sure thought Paine was like related to Auron in some way.

You were right until the penis thing... She was NOT hot... her dancer sphere made her Elvis and that is a massive turn-off right there... She was too moody and one of those "i'm not going to reveal my dark past but I'll keep refferring to it and acting moody because of my dark past... which reminds me have I ever mentioned my dark past which I refuse to reveal"

i think she is very cool, with that atitude much like auron , but no character can substitute Auron, and would be a very BIG mistake if square thought about it. From the three, i think that paine links the group together with that cold and distant aperence, but cool nver the less.

Paine was my best and favorite character in FFX-2..she is also my anti-drug...but anyways she was better with the dark knight dressphere...and she was easier to build up cause she leveled up after every 5 fights for me

as party member she was quite good, but she hadn't that thing that both Yuna and Rikku have, they where very funny and I liked the conversations between them, Paine was just acting "cool" and all, always serious and that didn't fit in this non serious game.

So imo she was just an annoying character that was only useful for being a partymember.

Paine is the only playable character in FFX-2 that I like. Yuna and Rikku are 2 loonies who need to be a bit more serious when they're on a mission --> Yuna: "Òòòh, an awesome sphere", Rikku: "Whoohoo, awesome!", Paine: "We're wasting time, you know". Without her, I don't think the game would have interested me much longer .

well u know, she's this goth dark type girl, which 2 me has a difficult 2 understand past, 2 me she cant compare 2 lulu, lulu was like yuna's really caring aunt, paine is a pretty cool friend 2 hav with yuna or anybody, but lulu's still much better

I am also with Denim on this one. Yuna was terrible in the game. Rikku is just some Britney Spears in FF form. Paine was a Auron-type chick that actually made me continue playing the game. The only good character in the whole game. Good character for the game - Definitely! Good character in comparison in other FFs - Not a chance.
