Necropolis is an RP that revolves around two character classes: the mercenary (corporate security) and the survivor (From civilians such as doctors, scientists, accountants, nurses, students, and mechanics, janitors, drivers, and store clerks to local police officers).
The mercenaries will be, by default, armed with firearms, although because of their brush in with the bizarre mutant creatures that were once part of Site B’s bio-weapons project, ammunition will be limited. So players using mercenaries, be sure to conserve your ammo.
The civilians will have to use improvised weapons. These weapons will probably have something to do with their occupation prior to the onset of the infection, but will generally be something a normal guy can stumble upon (say a baseball bat or a big ass machete or a lead pipe). Please, don’t MacGyver a bunch of paperclips, rubber bands and a broom into a crossbow. That’d be…dumb, to say the least. However, civilians can also use firearms. There are gun stores, however the weapons available in these stores will be restricted to pistols, shotguns and hunting rifles. No machineguns. This also applies to police officers (you don’t see cops totting around Kalashnikovs, do you?).
Oh, and the mercenaries will have to be not as many as the civilians. There will have to be more civilian survivors than the mercenaries, since monsters have gobbled up most of them. Civilians can stay in groups holed up in various locales, this would be preferable, in fact. Some can stay in the library, others in gas stations, some in fortified apartments and so on. You guys can coordinate in this (the OOC) thread.
The mercenaries and the survivors will have to run into each other and eventually they’ll all have to try and go to Casimolar Prime. Or else they’ll be left behind. Being left behind could be an interesting plot development, though…
Profile construction:
Name: (You can put the pronunciation if your name is so weird and if you think everyone else is a moron.)
Age: (In numbers or in words or in Roman numeral symbols, if you want to be unique and ‘cool’ and ‘gangsta’ and crap.)
Sex: (In letters, or you can get those fancy arrow things if you think the world can’t understand you and if you want to be ‘poetic’. You can use numbers to symbolize your gender if you think you’re so smart.)
Occupation: (Mercenary or civilian/survivor. If you want to be a survivor, specify something specific like a librarian or a veterinarian or a store clerk or a student or a guy without a job and living off his now-zombified parents. Nothing unusual, please. Don’t be an angst-ridden half-elf psychic swordsman/ninja/spy teenager-looking old woman whose parents were Space Kings who got assassinated by the evil Tree-Wizard of Leprechaun Land. If you do so, then the mercenaries will think you’re a zombie and shoot you on sight.)
Weapon: (A gun, or something ordinary that can be improvised into a zombie-hitting weapon. An axe, a big ass sledgehammer, a machete, a cricket bat, a riot shield, a golf club, a dildo. Whatever.) (Oh, and if you do choose to use a firearm, please post a brief description. For example: My gun is an AR-234, basically a futuristic version of an M16, but shorter and each magazine carries 40 rounds.)
Clothing: (You can get naked, like Milla Jovovich from the Resident Evil movies. But if I were you, I’d get some riot gear or football padding or something that provides adequate protection. Or just wear normal clothes.)
Physical description: (If you’re a pointy eared elf guy with piercings all over and a Dragon Ball Z styled hairdo, a baby zombie’s going to burst out of your chest and chew your face off. In other words, just use something normal. Please.)
Brief character history: (Nothing unusual. You could even model it after your real-life. And I repeat: Don’t be an angst-ridden half-elf psychic swordsman/ninja/spy teenager-looking old woman whose parents were Space Kings who got assassinated by the evil Tree-Wizard of Leprechaun Land. If you do so, then the mercenaries will think you’re a zombie and shoot you on sight.)
Basically, just put in whatever you want. Just don’t put something too unusual.
Some survival tips:The zombies in Necropolis are like those from 28 Days Later or the Dawn of the Dead remake. Meaning they are FAST and they are strong. A man with a big stick can beat one down, as long as he hits him in hard enough to deal lethal damage (you don’t have to hit them in the head to kill them since they are technically still alive and aren't in the influence of a weirdo voodoo magic that makes their only vulnerable spot their heads). However, when alone and confronted by more than one zombies, the best thing to do is run. If you fight them, by the time you’ve beaten the hell out of one zombie, the other one would’ve broken your arm and ripped your throat open with his jaws. And even if you run, there’s still a fair chance of the zombie catching up to you and tearing you to pieces. Doors can delay zombies, but they can break it open in just a couple of minutes. So, unless the doors are those sturdy ones, you’ll have to fortify ‘em. Because they lack hand eye coordination, zombies can’t climb ladders and can’t block a baseball bat swinging towards their heads.
Deadite is an alternate term for zombie. Malnourished deadites/zombies will rot, so they won’t be as fast as your average zombie…they’ll be like those old fashioned zombies who’re as fast as old people.
Be wary though, there are things far worse than zombies lurking in Necropolis. And animals themselves can be infected.

A mysterious and obscure infection that has been documented in isolated habitations on Kasanar, The War World, Zombie Fever is known to be in the Karlack Consortium’s arsenal of bio-weapons and is also rumored to be also in the possession of the Federation of Profit-seeking Planets. Moreover, recently there have been isolated outbreaks alarmingly similar to Zombie Fever in several Outer Rim worlds.
Zombie Fever is known to infect mostly sapient mammalian species, such as humans, Saquati and Bragulans, though all kinds of mammals are theorized to be susceptible. While the natural virus can only spread through the transfer of bodily fluids (i.e. getting bit by a carrier or consuming infected material), the Karlacks have developed an airborne strain that can also infect non-mammalian species, although its effectiveness has yet to be ascertained.
The initial symptoms of the Fever, which mark the beginning of the ‘zombification’, include high fever (hence the name), severe headaches, pains in the muscles, joints and behind the eyes, slow eye movement and severe rashes. This is classified as the first stage. The second stage is marked by paralysis in the face and mouth, which is accompanied by foaming, convulsions, coma and then ‘death’.
However, despite being clinically dead, the victim of the Fever will only remain as such for a period lasting from a few hours, in the case of pathogens modified to serve as weapons, and up to several days, in the case of natural Zombie Fever. This state is similar to hibernation or suspended animation, but instead of merely resting, the afflicted will suffer the morbid finishing touches of the Fever, which will complete the changes on both his mind and body, irreversibly mutating him into a twisted form. When this metamorphosis is finally completed, the afflicted will emerge from his deep sleep in a state best described as ‘undead’.
However, these deadites or zombies, or whatever you may call them, are not dead, per se. Rather, they are perfectly alive, with bodily functions just altered drastically from their original state. The brain of the deadite is now pumped with various hormones and chemical signals that render its mind no longer sapient, but dominated by the overwhelming and animalistic need to feed on the flesh of the living. This insatiable craving manifests itself in violent ways, comparable to how a rabid beast compulsively and viciously attacks anything on its sight, even inanimate objects, and even when the deadite no longer needs to feed; it will still attempt to sink its teeth on the living in order to spread the pathogen and propagate its kind. And when there is a total absence of living flesh, deadites are indeed capable of feeding on the food eaten by the un-infected, or even on their own kind, often the weakest and most incapable of fighting back will be the first to be cannibalized.
The body of the undead, the afflicted, is also similarly mutated, geared to one single vile and predatory purpose. Much like the brain, the body is pumped with hormones and chemicals, enabling bursts of incredible speed and strength, and ridding it of the ability to feel pain, to fear damage, and anything else except the hunger for that matter. Usually, when the deadite has risen, it is gaunt, as its metabolism consumes unneeded fat. Because the body no longer prioritizes the maintenance of extremities such as the skin, the nose, the ears, and the genitalia, but instead concentrates its upkeep on the most important of systems, even the most well-fed of deadites will look slightly leprous. Deadites with less healthy diets will look more like walking cadavers rather than anything remotely considered as living. Thus, the victims of the Zombie Fever are separated into two categories. The merely leprous, physically active and extremely violent ones are called deadites while those that are putrid and decomposed to the point that they can barely walk are called zombies or ghouls because they bear more resemblance to zombies as depicted in the movies. ‘Necropolis’ is a term that describes towns and cities infected by Zombie Fever.
A Deadite rarely travels alone, its primordial mind preferring the company of fellow undead. Packs of zombies can range from the handful to the hundreds, as their social structure is primitive and their intellects rudimentary. When on the hunt, deadites possess tactics just as primitive, or stupid. Once prey is sighted, a deadite will inform its peers - usually by roaring or moaning, depending on how decayed the vocal cords are - and will charge with frightening speed straight towards its victim. As this is happening, more of the undead will converge from all sides, hungry for the flesh of the living. The undead also converge upon places where sounds, possibly caused by the living, occur.
Because a deadite feels no pain, any attempt at fending it off will be futile unless the deadite is met with lethal force. Dismemberment is a good way of slowing down or incapacitating a deadite, since it cannot effectively give chase once it looses its legs. Also, damaging vital parts, such as the brain or the heart, will effectively kill a deadite. One must remember that there is nothing mystical or paranormal about Zombie Fever, hence the deadites, while being much more lethal than a normal being, are still subject to physical and mortal limitations and are still human.
The memories of the afflicted mind are also present, though albeit shattered, in the zombified mind. Deadites can recognize people it has associated with in its past life and, oddly enough, packs of deadites are often composed of people who were friends or relatives in their past lives. Moreover, because of this, the first victims of a deadite are often his friends or relatives. Another effect of this is that a deadite will stalk areas that he has frequented in his past life. Therefore, in infected cities, areas such as malls, schools and workplaces are usually bustling with undead activity.
Reports from formerly infected (and now cleansed) Outer Rim worlds indicate that deadites can demonstrate varying intelligence and some, perhaps the newly zombified ones whose brains are most intact, have been claimed to have behaved in a fashion one can describe as ‘smart’. Anecdotes of zombie ambushes and zombies bludgeoning, or ‘tenderizing, victims with inanimate objects or even limbs support this claim, as do reports of zombies actually uttering intelligible words and phrases.
Another odd characteristic of those infected with the Fever is the acquired taste for brains - a taste that is more like an addiction. Scientists from the Coalition’s Committee of Medicine and Disease Management suggest that various chemicals found in mammalian brains, particularly sapient brains, induce a sort of euphoria in the undead body system.
Because it only takes one bite to transmit the virus, and because carriers actively try to infect others, health authorities have placed Zombie Fever on the top ten list of most dangerous diseases. This, and the absence of a cure, is also why the Karlacks, and quite possibly the Federation, have Zombie Fever in their arsenal of bio-weapons.
