They can do good damage but not massive damage when compare to Rangers or Dark Knight but they can take better punishment from mobs than Rangers or Dark Knight. They function best in a party where they can work as back up tanks and secondary damage dealers. There's always room for a back up tank and a secondary melee damage dealer and this is where a Samurai fit nicely in a party. What Samurais lose in all out damage output, they can make up in their mad ability to raise TP quickly for Weapon Skills. Remember that themore time you use your Weapon Skills, the more damage overall you can do to a mob. The wait time for an invite to join a party can be a bit slow due to the fact thatSamurais are on the same equal footing as Thieves, Dragoons, Monks, Warriors, and Dark Knights. If there are too many damage dealers looking for a party, you can goon for days without getting an invite.
Main choice of weapon for Samurais are Great Katanas. You don't need any other type of weapons.
Sub Job Combos
Sam/War: This is the perfect combo for Samurai. Having a Warrior as a sub will round out the perfect balance between offense and defense for Samurais. With Double Attack trait, Meditate and Berserk abilities, a Samurai can have the extra boost in offensive attributes that it needs to deal some good damage. With a combo of Provoke, Defender, and Third Eye abilities, Samurais can act as the perfect back up tank when the situation arises. This job combo can allow a Samurai to switch from offense to defense very easily during exp parties.
Sam/Thf: This job combo is more of an all out damage dealer than a more balance damage dealer. You won't be able to back up tanking but you'll be ableto do much more damage by stacking Sneak Attack and Trick Attack with your Weapon Skill. This is a good combo to use if you are the main damage dealer in the party.
Samurai Job Quest
Locatioin: Norg
Client: Jaucribaix
Reward: Able to be a Samurai
Requirements: A level 30 job on hand.
Items Needed: Bomb Steel and Sacred Branch
This is one of the more harder advance class jobs to obtain. Change to a level 30 job and head to Norg. To get to Norg head out to Kazham. From Kazham get achocobo and head out to the Outpost in Yuhtunga Jungle at G-11. Once you reach the Outpost at Yuhtunga Jungle, fall down one of the holes near the cliff. Two ofthe holes will lead you back to the Outpost while the right hole will lead you to waterfall at Hidden Valley. Go right under the waterfall and you should see a tunnel. This tunnel lead to Sea Serpent Grotto.
Once you zone inside Sea Serpent Grotto, make sure to have sneak on. You can buy silent oil to do this or have a white mage along to help sneak you. Now travelalong and stick to the right side wall. Keep turning right at every turn you come to. Eventually you'll hit a wall and there's a blank target on it. Examine the blank target to open the gate. Go through the gate and keep to the right side and keep going up. You'll pass by a bunch of skeletons and crabs. Hopefully you have sneak on during this time. Eventually as you keep going up from here, you'll zone into Norg.
Once inside Norg, find Jaucribaix. He's at K-8. Jaucribaix will tell you that he needs a sacred branch and a bomb steel before you can become a Samurai. Now find Aeka and talk to her to get an oriental steel. After that find Ranemaud and he'll give you a sacred sprig. With two key items on hand it's time to fight the NMs to get the items you need. You can death warp back to Kazham or you can ride chocobo back to Kazham from Norg.
Now for the first NM fight, head over to Konschtat Highlands at D-8 and look for a ??? there. Trade the oriental steel to the ??? to pop Forger. Forger is a bomb NM but he's not very difficult. A full party of level 30 can kill him. Or you can get high level help. Once you defeat Forger, he'll drop the Bomb Steel. You'll have to fightForger a few times if more than one people are doing this samurai quest.
The next NM fight is at Sanctuary of Zi'tah which is at the northeast corner of Meriphataud Mountains. Before heading out to Zi'tah, make sure whomever is doing this Samurai quest need to have a hatchet. At the Sanctuary head to K-10 and you should see a tunnel heading east and off the map. Follow the tunnel off the mapto L-9 where you should see a ???. Once you reach the ???, rest and buff up to prepare for a NM fight. When you are ready use the hatchet on the ??? to spawn Guardian Treant. This is a tree NM that has a very high HP. This NM isn't very hard just high HP which means it takes quite a long time to get his HP down. A good party of 30-32 should be able to handle it. Use your 2 hour abilities if you have to. You only need to kill this NM once if more than one people are doing this quest. Once the NM is dead, trade the sacred sprig to get Sacred Branch back.
When you have both key items head back to Norg and talk to Jaucribaix. Jaucribaix will tell you to wait for 3 game days which is 3 hours in real life and talk to him again. After 3 hours in real life, talk to Jaucribaix again to receive Mumeito, a great katana, and the ability of Samurai job unlock for you.
