Ninjas can use their specials tools to inflict elemental attacks similar to black magic. They can also use their specials tools to enfeeble the enemy similar to red mages. And with the ability to dual wield weapons, they canbuild up fast TP and do some decent damage. Having a Rank A in Throwing, they can also be good pullers. In a sense, a ninja job is a like a multi-purpose job combo combine from the varous FFXI jobs. For whatever purpose the game developers intended Ninjas to be in a party, they've come to their own as a high class tank in parties. While a Ninja may not have a strong defense or hate grabbiing abilities like a Paladin, their abilities to be able to cast shadows known as blinks developed them into a special kind of tanks know as the blink tanks. Blink tanking may not be in much demands in the lower levels but by post level 50, blink tanking begins to shine and the demand for a blink tank in parties becomes greater. The higher level you go to reach end game, the greater the demand there is for a Ninja in roles that involved end game events. If you're not into tanking than you might want to stay away from this job as most of the parties that you get invited to requires you to be a tank. You're invite waittime to parties is a steady pace where it won't be too fast but on the other hand, you won't have to worry about not being able to get into parties as every party is lookingfor a tank. And some parties will prefer to have a blink tank than a defensive tank. The drawback however is that this is not an easy job to learn. Due to the fact that a Ninja doesn't have the kind of hate grabbing abilities like a Paladin, they need to learn how to grab and maintain hate with all their tools. There are more bad Ninjas out there than there are good Ninjas. Another drawback is that next to Ranger, maintaining a Ninja job is very expensive. Those ninja tools aren't very cheap at all. If you'regoing to be a Ninja, make sure that you can maintain the gils needed to be a good ninja and make sure that you have the skills needed to be a 100% good blink tanker. Don't just simply fall in love with the idea of dual wield and blink tanking then decide to be a Ninja because those that do that will probably end up as bad Ninjas.
Two types of weapons that Ninjas excel in, throwing and katana swords. Katanas are an obvious choice when it comes to getting dirty with meleeing a mob. Boomerangsare a nice choice when you like to have a Ninja as a puller. Keeping both type of skill levels at max is a good idea.
Sub Job Combos
Nin/War: Without a doubt the most practical job combo choice. Since most invites will be for you to come and blink tank, you'll need provoke and defenderto help grab some of that hate from a mob. Double attack trait from the warrior job also help you giving you some added damage to grab hate. No other sub job will allowyou to be a better blink tanker than a warrior as a sub.
Nin/Thf: In one of the very few rare instance where you get invited to a party as a secondary damage dealer as oppose to a blink tanker, then subbinga thief job might be more logical. With a thief you have a high evasion and the ability to flee which helps when you are acting as a puller. Sneak Attack and Trick Attack combo combine with your Weaspon Skill attack will do some nice decent damage. Still this is more of a farming job combo than an exp job combo.
Nin/Blm: This is one of the newest job combo introduced in the game from the JP parties. The idea behind this job combo is to be a pure damage dealer. There's been conflicting reports on just how much damage output this job will produce. It is said that with the right equipment boosting INT and magical attacks, a ninja cando mad damage that rivals that of Ranger and Black Mage. However to have the right equipment to boost INT and elemental skills require a lot of gils. Anything lessthan having the right equipment would be a gimp black mage sub that is non-effective. I have yet to see any Nin/Blm played by an english player on my server. The only Nin/Blm that I've seen are JP players so far. And with most invites going to Nin/War, I doubt the unconventional sub job combo of Nin/Blm will be getting invites soon.
Ninja Job Quest
Locatioin: Port Bastok
Client: Ensetsu
Reward: Able to be a Samurai
Requirements: A level 30 job on hand.
Items Needed: Strangely-Shaped Coral and Sealed Dagger
Change to a level 30 job and talk to Ensetsu at I-5 in Port Bastok. Then talk to Kaede in the same house. Then go to the warehouse in Port Bastok and talk to Kagetora. Once that's done go back and talk to Ensetsu again to finally get this quest. You'll need to get a strangely-shaped coral at Korroloka Tunnel. Head to the tunnel throughBastok Mines then Zeruhn Mines then Korroloka Tunnel.

Now from Korroloka Tunnel, follow these directions. Remember that you will need sneak most of the time so have a stack of silent oil with you or have your whitemage sneak the party. From the Tunnel follow the path then turn left at the first tunnle you see on your left which is at K-8. Follow the path until you come out the other side, proceed left when you reach the bridge at G-9. Turn right and cross the bridge to the other side. Proceed left, when you reach the junction point between going right and left at D-8 go right. Follow the path, it will go outside, and back in to another tunnel. Continue to follow it until you can go left or right at H-8. Go left. Continue straight and enter the cave on your left at F-9 and continue to follow the path. Do not cross the bridge, simply continue along the right wall continue to follow the path until you can go straight or right at H -11. Go right. Keep sneak up to get pass the mobs there. Keep going straight and you'll cross another bridge when you can go left or right at H-8. Go right follow that path and at the end of I-7 turn right again follow that path. At the end of the path, turn left and go straight to the ??? point. Remember to have sneak on when you are doing this to avoid aggro. Once you are at the ??? point, clear out the leaches there. Once that's done, move the party back and have the person that is going to click on the ??? to pop the NM leaches be sneak. If the person don't have sneak then the NM leaches will aggro the person that click on the ???. Sneak and pop the NM leaches. Now move back. At this point you can decide on how to do this. A party of level 30 can do this just fine. You can try to pull one by one if you have a Summoner in the party to do carbuncle pull. This can be done with a Summoner as a main job or as a sub job. If you don't have the carbunclepull trick then use sleep and sleep two of the leaches while you pull one of the leaches. Kill one leach by one. It's possible to pull one leach by one leach if you have sneak on and a good puller even if you don't have sleep or carbuncle pull. Once the NM leaches are dead, examine the ??? again to recieve the strangely shaped coral. Now head back to Port Bastok and talk to Ensetsu. He'll tell you to take the strangely shaped coral to Ryoma in Norg.

To get to Norg head out to Kazham. From Kazham get achocobo and head out to the Outpost in Yuhtunga Jungle at G-11. Once you reach the Outpost at Yuhtunga Jungle, fall down one of the holes near the cliff. Two ofthe holes will lead you back to the Outpost while the right hole will lead you to waterfall at Hidden Valley. Go right under the waterfall and you should see a tunnel. This tunnel lead to Sea Serpent Grotto.
Once you zone inside Sea Serpent Grotto, make sure to have sneak on. You can buy silent oil to do this or have a white mage along to help sneak you. Now travelalong and stick to the right side wall. Keep turning right at every turn you come to. Eventually you'll hit a wall and there's a blank target on it. Examine the blank target to open the gate. Go through the gate and keep to the right side and keep going up. You'll pass by a bunch of skeletons and crabs. Hopefully you have sneak on during this time. Eventually as you keep going up from here, you'll zone into Norg.

In Norg find Ryoma and give him the coral. You'll get a sealed dagger back. You can death warp back to Kazham or you can ride chocobo back to Kazham from Norg.Go back to Port Bastok and talk to Ensetsu again. After cut scene you can now become a Ninja.
