The attraction of being a Dragoon is no doubt having a Wyvern as your partner. This sort of makes a Dragoon a player and a half player when it comes out to totally the overall output damage that a Dragoon does. If you were to rate a Dragoon in terms of overalldamage when compare to the other damage dealers, they are on par with most of them. However there is a misconception by most uninformed players that think Dragoons are weak damage dealers. This is due to the fact that when damage dealers compare the damage done by each jobs, they only compare the damage done from the player to player in itself. If you do that comparison then in most cases the damage from a Dragoon might be weaker than the other jobs. But the truth is that people tend to forget the damage done by the Dragoon partner, the Wyvern. If you add the damage done by the Dragoon and the Wyvern, you'll notice that the total damage is on par or even greater than some of the damage done by the other jobs. People should stop looking at Dragoon as only the Dragoon and look at Dragoon as the Dragoon and their Wyvern. One of the attraction of having a Wyvern as a partner is that the Wyvern itself can help magic burst on Skill Chains or deliver its own special breath attack on Skill Chains. Thus giving more damage overall for a Dragoon. The Wyvern is also flexible in its task base on the sub job that the Dragoon is using. A Wyverncan be in an offensive form to help deliver more damage, or it can be in a defensive form to help heal and cure status ailments, and even be a balance of both forms. Ifyou love the idea of having a pet partner around then being a Dragoon should please you. From an invite stand point, your wait time for getting an invite to a party varies. You might be quick invites on some days or you might not get any invites on some day. This is due to the fact that there are so many other damage dealers around and that a Dragoon is a damage dealer that doesn't stand out amongst the many damage dealers out there.<br><br><table border="0" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="0" width="100%"><th align="left" colspan="3">Wyvern Forms</th><tr> <td align="left" bgcolor="#46587C"><b>Offensive</b></td><td align="left" bgcolor="#46587C"><b>Balance</b></td><td align="left" bgcolor="#46587C"><b>Defensive</b></td></tr><tr> <td align="left">Warrior</td><td align="left">Paladin</td><td align="left">Black Mage</td><tr> <td align="left">Monk</td><td align="left">Ninja</td><td align="left">Red Mage</td></tr><tr> <td align="left">Thief</td><td align="left">Dark Knight</td><td align="left">White Mage</td></tr><tr> <td align="left">Beastmaster</td><td align="left">Bard</td><td align="left">Summoner</td></tr><tr> <td align="left">Ranger</td><td align="left">&nbsp;</td><td align="left">&nbsp;</td></tr><tr> <td align="left">Samurai</td><td align="left">&nbsp;</td><td align="left">&nbsp;</td></tr></table><p>Polearm will be your only choice as main offensive weapon. Don't bother with any other type of weapons.<p><font color="#00FFFF"><b>Sub Job Combos</b></font> <p><b>Drg/War:</b> Subbing a warrior gives Dragoon a more balance role between attack and defense. You'll get an offensive boost in stats and the Double Attacktrait and the ability to boost your attack power with Berserk all from a Warrior. You can also act as a back up provoker and even tank if things are bad with Provokeand Defender at your disposal. You'll be seeing many Dragoons subbing Warrior as their choice of sub job combo.<p><b>Drg/Thf:</b> This is a total damage dealer sub job combo as compare to the balance one of Drg/War. What you lose out from boost in stats when not subbing Warrior, you get back raw damage output from using Thief as a sub. Sneak Attack and Trick Attack with your Weapon Skills is the main attraction of this sub jobcombo that provide a very nice overall damage output. You'll have to decide when to use a Thief as a sub and when to not use it if the party you are in needs aback up provoker.<p><font color="#00FFFF"><b>Dragoon Job Quest</b></font><p> <b>Locatioin:</b> North San D'Oria<br><b>Client:</b> Oiheaurese<br><b>Reward:</b> Able to be a Dragoon<br><b>Requirements:</b> A level 30 job on hand.<br><b>Items Needed:</b> Wyvern Egg<p>Change to a level 30+ job and talk to Arminibit in Port San D' Oria Cargo Room A. You'll hear him talk about Dragons and Dragoons. Once that's done, head to Bostaunieux Oubliette , which is the prison beneath Chateau d'Oraguille, and talk to Novalmauge. He'll tell you to talk to Oiheaurese if you want to learn more aboutDragoons. Now head to the Cathedral Manuscript Room in North San D'Oria and talk to Morjean. You'll be ask to get a Wyvern Egg at the Maze of Shakhrami which is in the Tahrongi Canyon. Now grab a few pickaxes and head for the Maze.<br><br>At the Maze of Shakhrami, you need to find an excavation point and use the pickaxe on it to dig up the Wyvern Egg. The excavation point randomly spawn in these locations in the Maze, G-7, I-8, I-7, or K-7. When exploring the Maze for the excavation points, use sneak and invisible to keep you from getting aggro so buy somesilent oil and prism oil. Once you have the egg, go back to the Cathedral and talk to Morjean again. Morjean will tell you that you need to plant the egg at Meriphatud Mountains. Head over to K-8 at the end of the Drogaroga's Spine at the Mountains to find a ??? mark. Trade the egg to get a cut scene there. After the cut scene it'stime to head back to Chateau d'Oraguille and talk to Rahal in one of the Knights Quarter Rooms. After talking to Rahal, you're ready to fight the NM dragon.<br><br>Grab a party of level 30 together or some high level help and head to Ghelsba Outpost at G-10 to find the hut. This is the same hut as San D'Oria mission 1-3. Go inside the hut to fight Dragon NM. A party of level 30+ shouldn't have any problems. Remember that the only people that can help you enter the hut and fight the NM Dragon are the ones that are on the same quest as you or the ones that have already done it. Any other people will be left outside.
True Rune
Hmm...I think DRG/WHM is an okay combo. At least for a Taru Taru.
Well, people didn't complain when I used it. The Healing can help but I can see the tips and Balances. I hear DRG/SAM is okay too. Good guide btw
Elmoz
DRG/SAM. The job combination that I long to get when I first started my char Foxhound... Spamming Penta Thrust ought to be fun & devastating~ rolleyes.gif
Pity I never got to use it before the TP nerf on multi attack ws... never seen it even. ohno.gif
It is nevertheless one of my fave jobs, the purple armor and wyvern is simply cool. happy.gif

WRONG! WRONG! WRONG! WRONG! WRONG! WRONG! WRONG!
I am severely offended by this as a DRG. (Not really offended though.) We are not ON par with other DDs, we are ABOVE any DD in damage. It simply takes a skilled dragoon with awesome equipment. And that's without any added damage from the wyvern.

DRG/THF = teh suxx0rz for DD... any other DRG/melee can easily out-DD a DRG/THF. The only reason DRG/THF is used is for hate balance.

DRG/WAR = An End-All Be-All Combination... not JUST because of Berserk, but Double-attack can get us parsing.

DRG/SAM = Endgame/Merit Combination... also end-all be-all with SAM's job abilities up to 37 like meditate that will heavily benefit DRG.

Oh yes, DRG can use dual-wielded swords as Drg/Nin effectively (albeit how effectively, I don't know) as a secondary weapon setup. Staff also benefits DRG/mage, but most especially DRG/WHM and especially if you use a Haste+% staff.
