I was thinking of getting BoF4 one of these days, but how good is it? How does it compare to the other BoF's?
Post your opinions here!

In my opinion it was better than Breath of Fire 3. But then again, I'm very biased against that title. =P Heh. The game was alright. But things on it are VERY small. World. Towns. Those things pissed me off very much. You'll like the battle system though. Best thing on Breath of Fire 4, in my opinion. As for characters? Hmm, you might like a few, but that is about it..
Game was kinda hard to enjoy since things was cut off from it. But you'll understand when you play it.

I liked the battle system, but the one thing I didn't like was the Dragon system.
Compared to BoF 3, there wasn't much you could do in order to become much stronger. I didn't really like any of the dragon forms, and could do more damage as regular Ryu by using Super Combo.
I liked the third one better, but this game had its moments too.
Like when you first get to Nina's sister for example.

Definitely worth playing. It wasn't as thrilling as Breath of Fire 3 in my opinion, but it is superior in the battle system. The fights are sort of like FFX's. All Ryu's dragons look the same, though...that was kind of a bummer.
The story was good, but again, I didn't like it as much as the story in BoF 3...or 5...or 1. Still, it was decent.
I really liked the visuals. The art on the characters was very cool. The map is done like a Tactical RPG though, which was a big change from previous installments.
The Fairy Village is back from BoF3 and I liked 4's take better. Lots more customization and cool potential for your city.

I Really liked this game, I havn't played BOF3 yet, I am gonna try though.
Anyway, The battle system is awesome. I loved the fact you culd switch the people that you were fighting with in and out of battle, and you could heal them and use items on them.
Another cool thing was the character models. They look really well done.
Finally, I liked the idea of being able to play as the bad guy. It was cool. So, in the end, I would have to say go find it for a sorta cheap price, and buy it.

Man all you guys posted about was the Battle system and how the story is. Did all of you forget Fou-lu? OK Wein, Fou-lu is the the bad guy and again you spend most of your time trying to find out if he's beheind all the misshaps in the game, but the twist is you actually play as him and you find out what he's really like. Eh and not to give TOO much away but it's kinda weird to have a bad guy with a actual good side. *sigh* kinda sad though what happenes though...., but then I promised that I wouldn't give too much away so you'll just have to play the game yourself ^^.
Then theres the good characters with your usual Ryu (remeber when you first see Deis in BoF III, well think Ryu when you first see him in this game XDDD) and Nina, then theres your Drunken dog, a Woren who seems to have some time trying to control his anger, a demanding Fox, and a suit of armor that laughs at inoppertune moments ^^.
In my opinion this story is one of the highlights of the series, but the world map is a dissapointment, but I don't think that you should miss out on a game just because of something like that. And of course like everybody else said before me, the battle system is great and it's alot smoother than BoF III but the dragons seem almost worthless until you get the Kaiser dragon, but then when you get that it does make up for lost cause............
Eh anyway, you definatly should get this game Wein. If your itchen for some BoF this game is sure to cure it ^^

I love the game, its pretty underrated for a great title. I would say that for me the way the story is told is my favourite part of the game, the way you change POVs between Ryu and Fou Lou, the battle system is good also, although i didnt played BOF 3, just the earlier ones, so i cant compare the two games. The fairy village can be addictiing as hell.

How's the random encounter rate in BoF4?
BoF3 kinda annoyed me because you had to do so much backtracking in the dungeons to finish the puzzles and everything, but the random encounter rate was insanely high.

The way the battles are found is sorta like Final Fantasy tactics in which you go to specific locations on a world map but after you go to the spot you get to explore a small to medium location and the rate is about average but sometimes it can get very high and healing can be a pain, even at the last leg of the game in my case.

Actually, I also talked about the graphics, the world map, and the Fairy Village.
And ValheartX talked about the small size of the towns.
Skimming is good, but *reading* the posts is a key to comprehension.

Well I did "READ" them, but everybody already knows that Capcom is the KING of 2d sprites, so why tell him what he already knows about the graphics? And your gonna bet mad at me for not saying that Val pointed out a VERY VERY small detail, that is easily over-looked? Give me break man, theres no reason to get all huffy over nothin.

I'm "all huffy" now? Damn. That's news to me. I was feeling more like a pompous, sarcastic ass and feeling quite good about it, but if you insist that I'm "huffy" for pointing out that there were indeed 4 points (whether you consider one common knowledge or not) you missed, I suppose you must be right.
After all, clearly you are sitting right next to me and are the master of my emotion and thought process. Since I don't know much about either team involved, oh wise one, who should I root for in the NBA finals? I was thinking about the Pistons cause that dud with the mask is cool, but you know me better than I do, so I'll ask you instead.

o.O Umm ok? If thats the way I came off I'm sorry, but theres no reason to pick a fight now. I was just stating that most people do know that when it comes to 2D the capcom is on the ball, and that small towns are a small detail. And again, why get mad over nothing? But again I am sorry if I offended you in any way.

I thought I made it pretty clear that I wasn't mad. I was making fun of you.
