shrinks over to help our disturbed Japanese comrades. By this I am Just preluding you all to my reaction of the latset manga I have read called "Gantz".

Gants is very similer to elfien lied and battle royal in the fact that it well leave you thinking " Wow I can't believe they just did that." It's a story that begins when two high school Kids (go figure) , by some unfortunate events end up in a room filled wiht strangers. these strangers are locked in the room untill they are transported, by this black ball, to kill alien invaders. Despite the quirky saterday morning cartoon plot, the manga is very Mature rated, sporting tones of extreme violance and sex. The manga artist took a no holds bar approach when making Gantz, streaching the lines of what can still be considered manga.

Either way I enjoyed the manga. It has great charecter development, mostly revolving around the main charecter. It is currently 200 chapters long in which you can download off of manga sites, unless its licenced already. then buy the volumes. Its worth it.

I agree, This is a great manga, i am only at chapter 199, but i will read 200 in due time, as long as you dont mind a few sexual things in the manga, and you like things that go BOOM, then get this manga, go, get it right now.

Well its among the better ones I've read and I really like the characters but I dont like how the story treats its characters. I mean out of the original cast only Kei is the only one alive! ONLY ONE IS LEFT! Although I hate that aspect in the manga but nonetheless its a refreshing change and makes me look forward to the next chap. ^^

Yes i hate how they kill off every single last one of the cool charecters. Thats my worst quam about the show. that and the fact that every alien seems to have above human strength

I do agree with you though, it's very graphic.

The storyline is actually good enough to grab me (that's not saying much ^^;;), and I happen to think it's very, VERY sad at points. And, man I can NOT remember names right now... Like when Tae dies, or when the one guy goes on the killing spree, when he puts on the make up to make him look black, or when the "comrade" aliens decide to kill Kei for killing one of their own. The storyline is actually a pretty sad and messed up one, if you think about it.

But, I enjoy it, not for the sex or the violence (okay, maybe for the violence), but the storyline. Honestly, I probably wouldn't read this if the storyline wasn't so messed up, and just plain old interesting. Some of the plot twists are amazing, and catch you completely off-guard Like when Gantz tells them to kill Tae. Or when Kurono learns that if he gets 100 points, he can revive someone. Or when you learn that Izumi was once in the game, and survived. I've got some theories for it too, but I think I could share those at a later time, when other people have read this.

Anyway about Tae.. I still think Gantz is only after aliens but I think Tae was a special case because of her photography and her connection with Kei because there might be a possibility of her exposing Gantz to the public and to think she was someone who wasn't even connected to Gantz. x_x;; But thats just my guess.

Actually, that's exactly what I thought about Tae too. It'd make the most sense, wouldn't it? Gantz doesn't seem like he'd do some that drastic for no reason at all. Poor Kei though, huh?

Anyway, Gantz makes copies of people, just before they die, right? Ever notice that right after one of the "adventures" (for lack of a better word), everyone comes back nice 'n healthy, even after they've lost say, an arm? What if Gantz makes copies of people just before the end of the "adventure?" If you live through the adventure, Gantz makes another copy of you. But, then I'd have to explain what happens to the extras that are still out there. Most of them look like they just die, but for those that shouldn't (the ones that aren't injured), I've no idea what happens.

And a question, are the Oni and Vampires considered aliens? I noticed that Gantz didn't tell them to kill the oni or the vampires, but the weird aliens that change shape. I hope the backstory for them is shown fairly soon. =\

God it took a while for one measly chapter to be released. =.= The weird thing is, due to the delay I even forgot the name of the guy who uses that huge Katana. It made me think because since when did Kei started using a Katana? Wasn't it that other long haired guy who normally uses the extending Katana and could even fight the vampires on equal level. >.<;;


Anyway as for the new chap. YEAH!!! Kei is back!!!! Took you a while you bastard. =) Now go rump Reika already!! Just dont tell Tae about it when you revive her.

I saw the preview for this. xDD; I can believe you when you say it looks twisted because...omg it does. x_X;; There was a lot of craziness, then when I thought it calmed down....

It was weird. xDD; Not my type to watch, but I s'pose it would be okay. x.x;;

I haven't read the new chapter yet, but while at AX, I saw the first four episodes. It took four episodes to get past the greenonion alien. =\ Needless to say, the anime moves much, much slower than the manga.

But, that isn't to say that it's bad. The OST is awesome, and goes very well with the situations. What I enjoyed the most was the intro to the anime (I don't know why, I just happened to like it the most). But, there are only two episodes per DVD, apparently, so I probably won't be picking it up. I'll just have to get Anime Network or something like that.

Anyway, yeah, I'll read the newest chapter.

EDIT: 205 is out. Sonic, you're behind. Anyway, 202-205 deals with the big kung-fu/fighting guy (It's been too long, I don't remember his name, sue me) and his fighting of the Oni (or maybe it's one of the shape-shifting aliens, I don't know).

Anyway, it's good, but it's mostly action, no plot stuff here. The kid still calls him Muscle Rider, for no apparent reason at all, and the guy goes insane when he fights the Oni (he commonly says, "ha ha ha, this is fun!" Over and over. So much laughing in this chapter =\). Anyway, I liked it.

202- 205 sucked hard core. no real plot progession just the destruction of a charecter I never knew existed. Maybe im just mad I finally caught up with the series. Yo verner or anyone else. whats the major and minor diffrences between the manga and the anime.

Yeah, it was just three chapters of a fist fight, it's turning into DBZ. =x

Anyway, the main difference is the speed of storyline. The anime is VERY slow when compared to the manga. It took FOUR episodes to get past the greenonion alien ("Green onions are enough for me"). That, and Gantz's translations aren't like they are in the manga (that is, no leet).

The humor is still there though, and it's pretty cool when you can actually hear the song being played before Gantz makes his announcements. I enjoyed that, a bit too much, I think. But, more on the humor, when Gantz is explaining what they're doing here, "You're all dead. Your lives are in my hands, you b#####ds. That's the theory anyway." Everyone in the theater was cracking up when that came up.

So far, that's all I've noticed, I'll need to watch more episodes. But, only two per DVD, apparently. It's going to cost some money for this.

Meh blame Snoopy and that other site for hosting the newer ones very late. I just checked out StopTaz... and yeah they have 202-205.


Anyway it was pretty bad. -.-;; Where the hell is Reika!? I dont want Muscle Rider! I want him to go out like any of the other previous guys hehehe. =) I forgot that guy's name who uses that stretching Katana... what was his name again? ^^;;

Anyway, it shows who is still alive, and who else they have left to fight. There's still some questions about who may or may not be alive though (they only confirm around 5 people being alive, and two are left with an unknown state). Looks like some more plot-heavy stuff here, which is good, because now we won't have to read 4 chapters in a row about fighting. ^^

And if you haven't checked out Gantz yet, you should. =p

Oh how imiss the 2 days where I can read 50 chapters of this in row. Going through a chapter a week, is to painstakinlgly slow.

The ending of this mission will dictate one person kai can save, and even who can graduate and live from the game, hopfully it wont be an everyone dies thing again, but probably will.

Finally got the time and read the chap. Anwyay I've been wondering like with all the kills they have made certainly Kei's score would go beyond 100 points or hopefully something around 200+, or do you guys think it will just stop at 100 and well start over again to accumulate another 100 points. x_x;;



LOL It took me around 9 hrs. to finish the 180 chap. ^^;; I guess Gantz just took me by surprise back then and I just had to know what happens next. o.o''

lol, I know what you guys mean. I read up to 179, I think, in 5 or 6 hours, then got angry, because i had to wait for the other chapters to be released.

You know what really angers me though? Chapter 207 had nothing in it. "Hunters, HUNTERS!" And then, "OMG, it's Katana-guy!" Really, it could've had something else. =\ I hope the story picks up soon, or at least, these chapters get released quicker, the pace of the story is getting aggrivating. Hopefully, the anime won't have this problem, later on in the series.

Oh, and just to clear it up, the OST for the anime = amazing. Then again, I'm the same guy that liked the Bleach OST and the Initial D OST (okay, so other's like the Initial D stuff too, but still). I'll have to pick it up soon.

Here's hoping for the newest chapter to come out soon.

Errr... so you read this one before I did? When I started reading GANTZ there were only 184-185 chap. released so far and you never bothered to recommend it to me.


Anyway on to the new ones... like meh. Although I am glad that the katana guy, who'se name I've forgotten and since no one has answered my question yet, is taking a beating unlike his usual owning with his extending katana. >:}

So, the newest chapter has a nice little twist. Like how the GANTZ-ers can now be seen, and the timer suddenly dissappeared. I suppose it'll take another 3 or so chapters for them to get back to this subject, seeing as the next two will probably be a fight of some sort... Oh well, it's getting good again. ^^

EDIT: Katana-guy's name is Izumi. I was reading through the old chapters, and came across that, as well as this nice little picture. The picture got resized to hell, but check out the lower right hand corner.

Izumi was talking about it. Notice the Oni head in the corner. I think that Gantz has had people fight the Oni and Vampires before, but never on this level. Oh well, I guess it'll all be explained soon.

Actually what worries me is that if they do manage to defeat the head boss that Izumi couldn't even manage to scratch, then what will happen to all those people who have seen them? Will this turn into another Tae incident again but rather on a more larger scale? or will Gantz just let this pass?

Well, knowing the way GANTZ has decided to play out, I'm thinking that Gantz will make this like the Tae incident, but on that much of a larger scale. It just wouldn't be the same manga without it, y'know?

Then again, it's time we see some happy stuff happening here, and I'd like it if Gantz didn't want a repeat of the Tae incident.

But notice: The Timer is gone. That could mean that they've got to kill everyone before they can go back. But then again, Gantz hasn't been one to make exceptions, so should the Tae thing happen again... well yeah, you get the picture I'm sure.

I would love to see how this one will turn out. Although I think things will get really messier with all the vampires going all out against our hunters and I dont think the hunters even have time to kill all the witnesses, given the warning that a certain vampire gave Kei if ever they managed to come out of it alive.

I've just read Gantz up to chapter 104, I need to catch you guys up, so I could share 2 cents of what I think about this manga. But man, this manga is so addicted, I can hardly wait each chapter I am currently downloading.

This manga is all about madness, the story was very unlogical, and the contents are really hardcore, but I love it. It's worse than Tenjou Tenge, for its nudity. lol =p

Kei was like a guy who doesn't give a damn about his surroundings, but maybe he changed a bit after Kato died. What a guy he is, but a main character with good looks and good attitude isn't rare anymore. This is what I've been looking for, It's like another Squall in a manga. LOL

This manga also turned out to be like Death note, no God-like characters that can't die (Well, except the main character, if he's dead, no more story), all appealing characters are no exception, sometimes they died in a horrible way. Another thing I like from Gantz. But why should the creator killed Kei (female) ? T_T She's soooo damn hot, and that Lara Croft as well.

Anyway, a question for you readers who know better than I am, How many volumes are there ? Stop Taz is currently on chapter 210. Is it over ?

I've read only until chap.208 and well its still far from over or so I think because there are still lot of things for Kei to do, and also there's another very hot babe with Kei as well, even more hot than the female Kei, Lara or Sadako and I dont want anything bad to happen to her. ;D


Another good thing about this manga is that for once, the main character's girlfriend isn't the hottest or best looking female character ever in the story. Kei's girlfriend is just cute but nothing when compared to the pretty looking ones in the story, but still Kei loves her so much and would do anything for her. Now that is a good man. =D

Yeah, right around here, EVERYTHING stops making sense, but we still kind of go with the flow. I can't remember if the alien thing was explained or not, but I think Gantz only operates at nights, I don't remember a single mission where Gantz is asking them to do something during the day (I could be really wrong about this, though). The alien came to kill Kei during the day, so I think that's why Gantz didn't do anything.

True, the massacres occured during the day, but Gantz was talking to a guy that was still alive, not dead, or copied, yet. That's really all the reasoning I have behind Gantz not summoning Kei during the fight at school.

I could either be really wrong, or it could be some sort of huge plot point, I've got no idea. But, it's an interesting thing to think about.

I always thought that the reason Gantz never called Kei during the school event was because Kei never succeeded the mission, or did I miss something? I mean wasn't that the alien that Kei got points deducted from him for failure to finish the mission on time or was it something other alien? x_x;;

How can the chap. 131 make no sense? Its all about Izumi's character I tell you!? That guy's crazy and practically obssessed with Gantz because he wants to get back there even if he already managed to get 100 points and finish the damn thing, but still he went too far to the extent of killing Tae!!! Its no plot hole I tell you! ;-;

I'm quite sure that it will soon be explained, because up until this point it has still been all about missions and stuff but nothing really about why they are doing all this stuff. So my guess is things will slowly be explained in the future, especially about this whole thing between Gantz, aliens and vampires.

Did you say it was like a penalty ? But the penalty has been executed, remember his point decreases to zero after he failed his mission ?

Yes, he wants to get back to the room. Because GANTZ ordered him so, but why GANTZ contacted Izumi to search for qualified players ? Not Kei ? Izumi was supposed to be free and lost his GANTZ memories because he chose #1 as the prize, which says "You will be freed along with your memories erased."
Now how come he still remember ? And why he was the one GANTZ contacted ?
Killing Tae, it can't be helped. If he didn't do it, somebody else will. And it'd be much more sadistic than how Izumi did.
And do you already find a reason why GANTZ ordered every players to kill Tae ?

True that Kei was penalized, but remember that Gantz has no power over the aliens. Whatever the aliens do is really up to them and there is nothing that Gantz can do, probably the alien was capable of switching frequencies and wanted revenge for his fellows that were slain by him. I'm guessing that the aliens would prefer to work without being noticed since most of them are in a different frequency.




I dont think there is such thing as absolute memory erasure, but I think that what really contributed to Izumi recovering his memories would be that other guy's internet website about Gantz. Since Izumi visited that site immediately when he went to Kei's house, but I'm not sure if Gantz really contacted *care to upload the part Izumi said this? ^^;;* him but rather Izumi could have possibly recalled that Gantz would want those who are strong and capable of fighting the aliens. The reason for Gantz ordering to kill Tae hasn't been revealed yet but, as what Vern and I have agreed, it could be that Tae was able to take a picture of the people who work for Gantz and to think that Tae at that moment was at a normal frequency. So probably to silence her would be the reason, since IIRC the film was also an issue.... I think. ^^;;

Ahh thanks for the pic. As it says, it is proof that he was from the room, so he must have had that ball ever since the time he completed 100 points and Gantz kept the message there so he could perhaps come back in the future, and the way Izumi said it, it was as if he thought he must have come from the room. So he could still have possibly partially kept some part of his memories intact, not really having his whole memory totally erased. But again that is just my take on the subject. ^^







Actually perverted one, we are really excited and anxious what would happen after this present battle. ^^ Only time will tell if Gantz will give the order to massacre all the people that have seen them.

Now, you can continue going through Gantz's game, as long as you don't wish to be released, right? Because that would require you to lose your memories as well. So, that means that Izumi had to go through, get the weapon, then go through it again, and get released, right?

Maybe it was his weapon that triggered it. Or perhaps that just shows up when he goes out on the missions... This is really something that I'm going to end up re-reading the series over for... XD

Yeah, he did. he really lost his memories before he went to GANTZ room for the 2nd time. And started to remember everything afterwards.

He doesn't own any weapon, that sword he used is a common weapon, even Kei has it, but he never really use it until he met those vampires.

Hmmm I've had the opportunity too watch the first two DVDs of Gantz (Uncensored version <3333) and so far Kei's attitude has been great Kato, well =\ I don't exactly like him but the way he just messes up that dude in the bathroom increased my respect for him (female) Kei really irritates me, I think I'll keep on calling her Miss Melons.

ANyway, I'm still waiting for DVD 3 too be released next month =\ Suzuki Alien Arc.

It's a very very grapic anime though.

Been a while since this topic has seen some replies. How's a good ol' revival? Anyone keeping up with the manga?

The oni story arc is almost over (or at least, this battle). This Battle is EASILY the longest in GANTZ. I guess it's because of what's happened to everyone. =( But anyway, it's almost over, which means that it'll be resolved soon.

Some things to keep in mind, yeah, spoilers:
-Civilians can now see the Gantzers
-The Timer is gone
-Almost everyone is dead. =(
-This should give Kei enough points to revive at the very least, Tae.
-The chapters should come out faster, and more frequently. =\

I think that about sums it up. Get back into GANTZ, there's some huge story stuff that's about to go down in the next few chapters.

Well I guess we can already figure out how this battle will turn out and with Izumi by Kei's side.. I guess the rest is history.

I just can't wait as to how everything will change after this mission, how Gantz will handle this situation, how the other races will move now that they are practically exposing themselves to humanity, who will be revived next after Tae ;D *we all know Tae is first in the priority list* and many more questions. I just hope they'll all be tackled in the following chapters or volumes. ^^

Saw the last two chap. and I must say I really really want to read the next ones badly. =) Sakata got a wooping 105 points and chose the revival option. =^.^=

Anyway, yeah, seeing Sakata get 105 points was awesome. He'll revive the kid, I strongly assume.

Izumi will probably get a bunch of points too, and from the way he reacted from seeing the "get a weapon" option, he'll probably pick that one.

Muscle Rider and the Bald Guy (I can't remember their names for the life of me), I don't think they'll get too many points. Though, Muscle Rider did take on an Oni all by himself, doing what Sakata ended up doing. He might get 100.



Kei will revive Tae first, that's obvious. And you're probably right about him reviving Kato next. Then he'll revive the other Kei (the suicide girl).

I'm thinking though... Kei may NEVER leave Gantz, as long as Gantz and his missions exist. Why? Kei's made a huge character development throughout this thing. He's more into helping people now. If he stays with Gantz, and gets more and more weapons, and revives other people, he can help people that go through this better. I know I didn't word it too well, but I think the gist of my idea is in there.

And yes, we're now back to waiting eagerly for the new chapters to come out. ^^

...Talk about being completely blind-sided. THAT I did NOT see coming, at all. Other than Sakata reviving Cherry. Reika revived Tae, the old guy revived Katou. Izumi chose a stronger weapon, And we still haven't seen Muscle Rider's points, the kid's points, the panda's points, and most important of all, Kei's points.

So, how many do you think he's gotten, and what do you think he'll do with them, now that two of the three people he wanted to revive are back?

And, where do you think it'll all go from here? Is the ending getting close, or do you think it'll continue on for a while longer?

My safe guess would still have to be at least 200+ points. I'm guessing he'll revive Kei and get a stronger weapon for the next mission. =) Geez.. Seeing all those events happen makes me wish Reika will have a happy ending when this is all over. =) *sniff* Reika!!!! Why do you love Kei so much!? ;-;

With that aside, I think is almost over probably in 3-4 more arcs. Now that the vampires are taking an aggressive stance, the aliens are getting stronger, and the existence of the gantzers is no longer a secret seeing their last battle.

Gantz is the best MANGA i ever SAW !!!!!! IT has the Action i was looking for.

Even Muscle Rider revived someone for Kei. That I didn't see coming. Actually, what I REALLY didn't see coming was who they revived. I mean, it makes sense to revive him for information, but really, they shouldn't have wasted the points on him, he just waited for everyone else to die, then attacked. =\

Anyway, Muscle Rider at 175 points, and he took down just one Oni. Kei took down more than that. I'm sure he'll have tons of points to spend as he wishes, right?

And one thing I've forgotten, was Tae revived already? Was it Reika that did it?

Is the Manga different then the Anime storywise because I didn't like the Anime?

It doesn't look like the storylines are different, but I've only seen the first 4 eps of the anime. And at the beginning, the story isn't that great. They just fight random aliens and such, and there isn't too much character development going on there. But as they progress, the characters develop in huge ways.

I suppose the anime is based around character development, more than anything else.

I'll check it out sometime today.... I just have to resist playing MC for a while. >.<;;

Anyway.... I just hope after this event Reika will get some bit of lovin from Kei probably... but I (wishful thinking) wish she gets to have some action with Tae as a thank you for reviving her. ;D Tae gave Kei some lovin, why can't Reika have some? hm? ^_~
