So yesterday i was leveling my monk in the citadel, and of course mpk majic jar 7 or 8 skeletons etc etc. Anyway, my bro makes a smart comment about it somewhat like this "Maybe it was a ranger who was so mad and is about to quit the game because of the nerf" (lol nerf is such a funny word)

Anyway, some lvl 75 rangers started complaing and said that i should become a blm becuase ranger is useless. Now I am only a lvl 40 ranger, but when i partied after the update, i was not useless. "Omg we cant pull numbers any more.. this update was devasting to a ranger, omg im useless etc etc " is all i heard. I never really cared about numbers, i cared about having fun and last time i checked that was what i pay money for. To have fun playing a game... i still play ranger i still have fun and looking at it I still pull numbers.. these asshats are just making it harder for those of us who still want to play ranger, by calling their job worthless and a waste of time.

(And last i checked its only a waste of time if you arent enjoying yourself, which they must not have been for 75 levels ; wink.gif

They also said you can get any job to 75 within 5 weeks, they must have used iron arrows the whole way... And i wouldnt doubt it one bit either.

I've been too busy to notice all the changes lately from the last update. What is this so called Ranger nerf that took place?
True Rune
Distance Matters and the mob's level matters now, Utsusemi makes you lose hate. Those were the biggest changes that happened. It's a real big deal to them, it seems their damage was reduced and end-game worthless.. or so I hear. Many can't cope and leave. Some are adapting well. Other jobs have reactions too. Tanks and Healers are unaffected.. While Melee DD are rejoicing because they may get more parties. BLM's are slowly backing away because they are the next target for the whiners..

I think of the nerf (yeah, great word XD) as natural RNG selection. The ones who are in it to just stand right at the mob engaged to crack out the big numbers will leave, and the ones who truly love the job will stay.

I think it adds more variety and strategy to the job as well.

Now they're actually... dare I say it.. Rangers! =O!!

I now have a somewhat static pt with my rng now and i have been looking at my numbers closely as of late.

I am actually doing MORE, thats right, MORE damage. Take that you quitters who cant adjust. happy.gif.

For those who cant figure out what to do, you dont have to change your sub to war if you dont want to, but you can macimize your damage this way. I am doing more dmg with /nin so im assuming /war would knock the socks off of any of our enemies. I changed my equipment to my RSE instead of noct gear. (kept my martial slacks) I eat Windurst salad.

As for battle tactics, you need a camp with space because you need to have some distance. I usually stand back with the mages, sometimes right in front of them if they are far back. If the hate comes to me, i unlock the target and move. I prefer archery <3 and use shikar bow and scorpion arrows. What fun ^.^

I did not know you still come here Shannon..wow..that just made me want to come here more.

The RNG nerf is pretty drastic in that RNGs no longer powerful for HNM battles. I will not say this nerf gives legitimate reason to stop playing the job altogether. What this nerf did was relieve the game of most of the arrogent RNGs who believed they were uber because they did more damage than any other job in the game. And got faster invites. As a WHM I've noticed alot more "quality" rngs.

The damage can be fixed, but takes alittle work. RNGs can still pull hate from tanks. Ranger is not useless, those 75 RNGs are just disgruntled, you can't really blame them, but you shouldn't listen to them either. You would not like BLM because BLM has to hold back alot more than RNG. *A lot* more.

I can understand somewhat the end game problems, but I am sure that by the time I get there, I will be more than capable (sp?) to do my job. ^^

As for the black mage comment, I have learned that already. Took blm to 20, enjoyed it, will be leveling it again sometime this week. I am currently trying to get my white mage up which I can see that you can't cure too much or you'll die. >.< I'm not very good with white mage, time to go learn how to really play it in the dunes for a couple of levels. I really like most jobs, as I have many that are at 20 sitting there. (Need to unlock SMN and try that only job i havent tried yet.....)

And to point out... yesterday I did BCNM 40 Worms turn. A ranger actually did bring iron arrows >.< Well as long as I do my job well. lol....

AND!!!! HIYA! nice to see you around! ^.^ I occasionally come here check things out. ^.^

[FONT=Times][SIZE=1][COLOR=purple] Hi, I'm new to this forum, but not new to FFXI. I'm Gwyn on the game, Unicorn server main job is lvl 60 Blm. Ok, so, being a Blm I know it is not for everyone. But why do people find the need to tell everyone else they encounter how to play the game, what job to be, race etc. I got so much crap being an elvaan blm (low INT) but I made it work. And I truly beleive any race can play any job and really have fun with it. But what is not fun is listening to these "know-it-alls" rant on about what you should and shouldn't do. I wish they'd just shut up, play the game, and let everyone else do the same. Those people who are still arrogant enought to tell me how to play the game (i.e. "elvaan blm? you should have been a taru" or "wow, you need to get Flare") are quickly told "Welcome to my /blacklist, have a nice day!" happy.gif

Depends on how you look at it and approach it. A good player is one that always is open minded about an advice from another player. And a good player is one that should always try to help another player do their job better if they see a mistake. If you see someone in your party not doing a good job then you really need to speak up and try to give him the advice on how to do it better as the job they do will effect the party.
Example is a BLM in the party isn't magic bursting then he/she is hurting the party performance. You as a player shouldn't just shut up and not say anything. You should give that player the advice that they need to magic burst. But again it's the approach. If you approach the subject wrong then the player in question will take it as a personal attack and will get offended by it. It's all a matter of approach.
You can't turn a blind eye and say it's my job and I can do whatever I want because whatever you want will effect the other people in your party as well.
Some people just don't know how to approach the matter very well.
True Rune
Your right, You should welcome advice that will increase your effeciency. Like a PLD that wont cure themselves and will kill your MP
and RNGs who dont adjust to the update.

Shan! I can help you be a better WHM lol
