Hey guys, I know that the game has been out for a long time now, and I heard about the new pack that lets you download every thing, if they game is still popular I would like to join, so my question is, Do alot of people still play the game? I beleive the pack comes out aug 18th and I will probably buy it if people still play.
Valince
Yes people still play FFXI. It's not as popular as it once were but it is still a very exciting game to play to alot of people who still play it.
Mistik
I wouldn't say so, not on the ps2 atleast. the new versions of the ps2 don't sopport the hardrive needed to play ff11, and the game is moving to the xbox 360. so maybe on the pc or when the new xbox comes out, but not currently on the ps2.
Valince
Bah, PS2 is not good for FFXI anyway, other than controller usage. And you can just buy one for your PC. It has poorer graphics, COSTS MORE(if you dont have the one that comes WITH the HDD). Yea they are gonna stop support for PS2..it's inevitable.
Metonymy
As I said in chat, the Xbox 360 version is going to start with a fresh new community. The current FFXI players are moronic, and player abuse is a MASSIVE problem, not to mention the forced linearality of the game by the players is annoying and takes the fun out of the game. The game is hard bitter work, because of the players, and greedy player abuse.

Not to mention gil buyers and sellers. Just wait for the new version to come along.

There aren't a lot of new people joining the FFXI world as compare to last year in spring but that's due to the novelty of the game coming off and support for the PS2 is now non-existant. However there are still many people that play this game and many people are returning due to SE recent spring and summer campaign of re-activating dead accounts of previous players that quit the game. But just not a lot of raw new players that never touch the game. However I expect there will be another push of raw new players from the X-Box 360 audience and from the promotion of another expansion pack later this fall/winter.

Q. Is the game still popular?
A. I believe the game is still in the top 3 most played MMORPG right now. If not then it's definetly in the top 5 most played MMORPG.

Q. Do alot of people still play the game?
A. Despite the fact that many people quit the game due to burnt out or just moving on, a lot of people still play the game and the server population remain even and steady. This is due to the fact that for all the people that quit the game, there are just as many returning to the game due to the Return to FFXI summer campaign. There just hasn't been that many raw new players to push the population to new heights that would require another set of new servers.

I wouldn't worry about not many people playing the game. If I'm correct, each server pretty much average about 2500 players at all times of hours. If there weren't many people then there wouldn't be so many darn lag in Jueno.

I know they are stopping support with ps2 but is there any news about what there going to do with the ps3 will they release it upon this system as well. If I remember correctly Square do have a contract with Sony and I think cutting support for Sony all together would cost them allot more money than the company can afford. But please correct me if I'm wrong??

Alright guys thanks for all the help!

Sony no longer supports FFXI(hence slim PS2 with no HDD) and they haven't for awhile now. SE themselves are'nt in a bind so to speak.

Anyhow, I'm a 63 WHM, and it's now month 8 of my 1 year playing this game. I do believe my time is running out though.

Q. Can more than one person play different characters from the same account at the same time?

A. The answer is yes and no. SquareEnix does allow more than one person to access an account at the sametime however it's not possible to do it with the same registration code. Let's say you created an account and created two characters for you and your significant other. One for yourself and one for the other person. Both people can access this account to play a character but only one can be allowed on during the sametime. If player A is currently playing a character and player B logs in to play another character from the same account from a different computer, then player A will get kicked out. Only one person on each registration code can log in at the same time. The work around this is simple, apparently it's consider one copy for one person per registration code. You have to buy another copy with a different registration code. Install that copy in a different PC and then log in with the the username and password of the account on the other PC. This way more than one person can access the same account at the same time. With different registration codes from different FFXI game copies, both people can now play with each other on the same account using different characters on that same account

About that, Few qestions if you dont mind.

So if I went out and bought FFXI and made an account with 2 characters. Would it be possible for the 2 characters to be on the same sever?
If so ...
If i talked my friend into going out and buying FFXI as well could he , using his own restration code, be able to log onto my accout and play with me?

Kinda understand the qoute but verifying before I tell my friend its possible and checking to make sure its not a fix done latly.

Yes. But for each character to be on the same server (world), you need to have a world pass inputted during the character creation. Remember that you can have as many character on one account as possible but you can't play those characters from the same account at the same time. Only one character can play on the same account but so the other must log off before another character can log in if they are both from the same account.

No and Yes. Not the way you put it. Your friend can buy his own copy of FFXI and use his own registration code. But he will need to get a world pass to the same server you are on. At the point since both of you are on the same world/server, you can play with each other. He can't actually access your account as that's consider a security rist. But he can create his own account.
Varsron
Hmm kinda understand ... but can he play at the same time as me on the same account (if he gets the world pass and not worried about security threat) without paying mouthly besides the + fee to me for having two characters.
Quitsy
No he cannot. He would have to pay 12.95 to play with you at the same time.

Ok, so FF11 is not good for PS2, but what about the PS3? Will it come for PS3?
Valince
No.

It's moving to the Xbox 360.

Plus in my opinion, sony doesn't really care for the online business.

Well, I can definitely agree w/ you to some extent, Spectar. But just saying that all of the players are moronic, isn't very true. It also isn't very nice to use it as an excuse to seemingly steer someone from playing the game. Even though player abuse is most definitely at an all-time high, there are still those of us who love the game and also want other people to enjoy it as well.
I have actually been on the front lines of the battle against the abusers. The people who follow others and take the mobs before the player who got there first can get their spell off, or shoot their arrow, the people who shout obsene things in town or send you random an offensive messages just trying to cause trouble. Hell,I've seen it all.
There's going to be people in the game that really take away from the fun of it, even when the version for x-box comes out, you're still going to put up w/ them. There is nothing that is going to change that. No matter how many you get booted they'll still come back. You just need to go ahead and weed out the bad ones and take advantage of a little thing call the B-LIST. I know you haven't forgotten about it's existance wink.gif
No matter WHAT you do, you will NEVER be able to escape the abusers, but you can slow them down by reporting them and B-LISTing them. So please don't call all of the players moronic based off of your opinion on a handful of them. For every 1 bad player, there are 15 good players ready to kick him in the B***s.

Oh, yeah. and the gil sellers really bite as well. Seriously, Varsron. If you let ANY of what's written in this message sink in, let it be this. Earn your own gil, you'll feel better about it and you'll enjoy the game that much more, because farming is really fun ^^

You do realize the Xbox 360 players are only going to be "alone" for beta testing, then merged with the existing community, right? This "fresh new" thing you speak of is just a small influx of new players. The old ones will still be there.
The Evil Dead
I'm surprised they're bothering to put this one on the 360... Must be easy to convert over and I suppose cheap to host, plus it's an MMORPG they can cash in on pretty easily.

Still, I don't see the 360 revitalizing the game all that much, they tried the same thing with PSO and that pretty much went no where. Plus so many other MMORPG's are coming out on the PC now that it's really cutting into FFXI...

I suppose we'll see a small surge from 360, but I don't give the game anymore than a couple years before it's pretty much gone.
