Well i was just wondering what people thought of the whole sphere grid idea, and if anybody actually completed it? i thought it was okay, how i could get my characters to learn how to use other characters abilities. i didnt finish though. i maxed kimahri's out though. i had a difficult time in getting the level 3 and 4 keys for the nodes and stuff like that. Anyways i was just wondering how everybody else did on it?

I liked it because it was new and innovative, but on the other hand, it took WAY too long to max it out for everyone, and sometimes you'd be forced to wait if you had ran out of a certain sphere (usually ability) until you found some. It was nice to have a change from leveling up, but it was kind of frustrating.

Completed all the tracks, unlocked all key sphere, now I just need to replace low level spheres with the highest ones. And collecting luck sphere sure is a pain in the ***.
But no one can beat the owner of this board, he's crazy I tell ya. =D

I think I finished just about more than half of it the second time that I played through it. It is surprising just how long it will take to finish it all but I plan to, one day. I read some of the other posts, what do you guys mean by low level and high level? It has been a while since I have finished Final Fantasy X so I must have forgotten.

I have finished it. Even if you go through the game, your characters arn't unstoppable. You need delete spheres and you need to go to the monster arena and fight the original monsters for spheres that can actually make you unstoppable. They drop like defense spheres, strength spheres, etc.
Filling it was a good feeling though, although then I thought that I spent too much time on the game. Although with my armor and stats, there is no way you could kill my characters.

It was alright. I got stuck with where to go for Rikku and Kimahri. I felt like they weren't learning worthwhile techniques, so I diverted their courses and ended up in a complete mess

. It was good to see how much of it you'd lit up though - satisfying.

Kimahri is the first one I got done, then WAkka, then Yuna, Tidus, Rikku, Auron, and Lulu. but the ability I didn't get cause of the key is Unmia, (spell wrong) And Auto-life. But it's not bad.

i happened to like the sphere system the most out of materia, drawing, magicite, etc. my main goal was to make yuna kick arse by taking her through auron's grid. But did anyone here notice that Kimahri's grid is rathar small? It also has ultima. does anyone here have ultima yet?

I liked this system. Unlike in final fantasy 7, where in order to get some spells/abilities you had to work your *ss off to get into materia caves, this game's only challange would be sphere levels and key spheres, level 4s are sometime hard to come across, but if you have the patience, I mug and defeat nemisis for warp spheres, warp one character overt the barrier, and then defeat Vorban repeatedly and use the Friend Spheres you get to move people over it as well. So I'd say, a bit too easy compaired to other FFs, but still fun. And to answer the question, I have completed it with my party. But that isn't saying much because in order to really get some killer stats maxed you need to fight species creations and win spheres, that make spheres (like Str spheres which give +4!) and find empty nodes to fill. Like around Auto-Life where you can set up a ton of stat raising spheres wich will probably max the type you put there (this is also great if you are starting to train a character, by sending them there with a return-then-friend sphere you can quickly make them powerful...
@ Ladyxmary, yes I got ultima but I can't say it was worth it, it is powerful when your characters' str isn't near max but if/once you can hit for 99,999 Attack Reels/Blitz Ace will quickly out date any black magics.

I absolutely despised this system. The potential for breaking characters was too high, much like the transparent leveling system from II. There is absolutely no reason that I should be able to solo the end of the game with Yuna. NO Reason!
That being said, the variability of the system was cool, but when you've got one character with the ability to do everything, what's the point of having the rest of the cast?

In order to have 3 times the ultimate person. This is true, you can solo the end with a magic caster using phisical attacks, but the way I see it the game is on two entirely different levels, Limit, and Breaking the limit, once you break damage limit and hit for 99,999 the actual plotline protion of the game is in the past but you still need to train and level, in order to completely the monster arena (which also gets a little too easy later on) but still, fighting the final aeon gets sort of irrelevent once your on the level to start beat Ultima Buster/ Nemesis. Because soloing the last boss is one thing, but soloing uniques in the monster arena is on a whole different level, which almost requires the completion of the sphere grid (or if it doesn't you will probably have done so by the time you are done anyway).

yes I got it. Nothing special, good if you use Lulu a lot though because her overdrive casts multiple times, and it does some good damage. Otherwise I rather like just normal attacks, they do they same damage for me. I guess it doesen't really matter when all your attacks do 99,999.

First off, that doesn't happen until the end of the game.
And the game offers a different challenge to characters below the break limit, and those that are above it.
Once you go beyond the limit, the challenge lies in the Monster arena, or Dark Aeons if you have the International version.
And you have to challenge the monster arena if you want to grow stronger.
And here's the thing. It doesn't matter if
one of your characters know all abilities or not. The game is set up so that you need at least all three.
As for the system, I think it was an interesting method, because this way I could really chose in which direction I wanted to take my characters, more or less.
And I wasn't forced to use characters I didn't like, just because they have a certain skill that I don't. I chose to make my favorite characters my best ones.
You don't have an infinite amount of spheres, so you have to compensate.
But as for Sphere grid completion, I went thriugh the whole thing with Tidus, Yuna, Rikku, Auron, Wakka and Lulu.
In addition to that, I began clearing the board of weak spheres, and replaced them with +4 status spheres, and + 300 HP spheres and such.
I did this with Tidus, Yuna, and Riku.
As for Kihmari, I hardly even moved on the sphere board at all with him.
He was still doing 400 damage while everyone else was doing 99,999. lol

The sphere grid itself is, like the other FF systems of stat division, a great unique and fun way to make your characters invincible. It also takes hella long to do so.
As Rag said, to fill the grid you have to fight the monsters in the arena to get the necessary spheres to max out your stats. It's a good feeling, but with 150+ hours on one file and me restarting yet again because I missed some important things is just obscene. It's fun time well spent, but some of the mini-games to get the Ultimate Weapons to break the limit are ludicrous.
But the sphere grid itself does kind of destroy the point of diversifying your cast. HOWEVER, that's only late in the game, when you can make those three super-power characters. Until that point, you really do need to use certain characters to kill certain enemies.
After that, it's really the Arena Monsters that it's all about. Those still take a good deal of strategy to deal with, especially the upper ones like Nemesis and Ultima-Buster.
And it's just so satisfying to see all the 99999's on the screen from a normal attack. It's a massive difference from the beginning of the game, where you started off doing 1-300.
Every of the FF's stat systems had it's ups and downs, and so does this one. But for me, the downs are still enjoyable, in turn making the sphere grid, in my opinion, the best of the bunch. With a few adjustments, it could have been perfect.

Everybody hated Kimari because his sphere grid was useless but his position was to go into other people's grids.
Personally I had him go around his own for a while then as soon as I got key spheres he went up through Tidus's and then out into Auron's. This meant that he had aurons strength but also had cheer and haste. It rendered Auron useless because Kimari would be stronger/as strong (I'd also use the Strength sphere you win at the first blitzball and any others I could find to strengthen him ad tidus while his on Tidus's grid bit), and most of his others stats would be a bit higher (especially MP) and most of Kimari's weapons are Peircing as well.
The best bonus that you have Two "aurons" if you want them. Made life a lot easier.

Too be honest, I liked the Sphere Grid, you had a lot of ways to go, many possibilities and you weren't restricted to someone's abilities, as in FF IX for example, although I liked that one aswell.
You were free to use the character the way you wanted, no need to have Tidus as a warrior, you can make him into something else aswell, although it sucks, there was a possibility =)
You were the one that was responsible for his strength, you learned him new moves, I think it was pretty cool.

I likethe fact it was innovative and new. THe fact that I could totally determine what my characters became eventually.
What is ridiculous is having yuna do 99999 damage on a normal hit =\.
So I found it both good and bad, fun and lame.

I thought the Sphere Grid was easiy to use and stuff. Yuna is so far my top charactor. Thanks to the Master Sphere and the Blk, Wht, etc Spheres(which I got from a cheat disc XD) Rikku, Lulu and Yuna now know all Abilities. Its so useful and you can allways try to up Magic and other things!

I completed it and now putting some new spheres over the old ones. Wow let me tell u my characters are powerful. Even yuna is making over 6,000+ damage, and she is usually the weakest character. Id rather have the traditonal exp level gain but this is unique and u caan raise ur own stats.

This is bogus! I've covered about 95% of the sphere grid into 127 hours of gameplay....and I'm still having trouble completing this for EVERYONE. Damn, FFX is like one of the most advanced games Square has worked on! But to me, Legend of Mana still beats out the rest.

okay ben you have a point here. and yet that is exactly what i loved about this system. i am a mage whore. the best mage is always by and far the highly neglected but sherely most awesome red mage. i loves me my mages and there magic whoreing ways, but no white or black mage can f-ing stay alone long enough to ever kill ANYTHING! poo. thats what i loved here. my thief was a tyrant and my mages worse! -maniacle laughter- >=D fear my mad skills! so yeah in english i made my two woosie girlies redmages for intensive purposes and i made my thiefe able to cast magic too which was just as friggin awesome! this i loved!

only 6,000? mine breaks 10,000 - 20,000 a hit. which is why this game has its major flaw in that exact system. This!- ben is exactly why the sphere grid idea is a shame of a system. one seriously awesome weapon creation given to three key characters and you have just owned the game to a point where you might as well just speed through to the end for plot value if you like cause you will never really have any more challenge in the game ever again. when lulu and her puupuu can take down the final boss in single hits, its time to admit the system might have been a bit Tooo easy.
however, ^^ i enjoyed owning my game with pathetically high hitting damage. <3

The first time I played it, I actually maxed out:
Lulu
Yuna
Tidus
Auron
Wakka was almost completed but I just gave up by that point same with Kimari. I had no intention of getting their final weapon and doing that without double AP was going to take me FOREVER!! I already spent over 101 hours on the game and that was enough. But I do agree with Soul I killed Sin in like 2 hits with Yuna :/

I don't think there was a point. Its just to get you to sit through and play more, I suppose.
Though,Cyril, I don't even think you needed to level all the way up in order to get through the last half of the game. After you got the Holy technique/magic you were pretty much set to go up against any boss and have a high percent chance of success.
Anyways though, I ended up getting through most of the spheres. The only ones I didn't bother with were Rikkus and Lulus.
