Blizzard Entertainment today announced that World of Warcraft has reached more than one million paying customers in North America. This brings the total population for Blizzard’s MMORPG to more than four million paying customers.

There's a little more to read Here.

I knew World of Warcraft was popular, but 1 million in the states and around 4 million everywhere is a lot of players. I wish I could play, but I need a job first and all that jazz. So what do you guys think about this? I figured it was only a matter of time, but it hasn't been out all that long.

Wow is the new everquest. I lossed my bestfriend to this system. I wish the esrb would crack down on this rather then gta.

Why, is there a Hot Orc Stew mod that we haven't heard of?
You can't compare the two. wink.gif

WoW is a huge thing now, and they're making millions upon millions just off of monthly subscriptions. Vivendi Universal owns Blizzard, so I'm sure they're loving every bit of profit they're bringing in from the company... They own so many game studio's now that it's not even funny.

I played this one for about a month, and became bored as hell because it's just like any other MMORPG out there... Plus most of the quests are really lame. I don't see how it's reached this point in popularity, but it's cool I guess because now Blizzard has a bit more leeway and hopefully can expand to make bigger and better games.

My friends and I have a Horde guild on Earthen Ring. My chars name is Jurdendorf tongue.gif I've been playing since closed beta (came from like 4 years of EQ). Wow is fun, but I'm not entirely convinced it will have the staying power EQ did. I'm kind of bored of WoW already and it's only been about a year.

I agree Loomis, Evercrack and Warcrack has absolutely no comparison...though I've never played Evercrack, I've heard this from many who have.

I myself have been playing World of Warcraft since Christmas of last year and have fallen in love with the gameplay. What can you say, I love rpg's and doing quests. A large part of my enjoyment has a lot to do with the number of people I play with in-game and the friendships I've made both in-game and out-of-game (something that I don't highly recommend). The quests that I've done are actually not so bad. So far, I've rolled 3 types of characters...a hunter, a rogue and a warlock. My hunter was my very first character and has made a lot of friends from the very start. My rogue was made once my hunter had reached the top level (60), mostly cause by that time, I didn't want to just quit the game due to boredom. I had also just created my very first guild which opened new doors for me as far as gameplay. I didn't realize how much fun I would have playing a rogue...they kick major ass. After going through the first 20 levels and already getting know now how guilds work, I looked at our roster and saw that the only type of character Rebirth didn't have were warlocks. I eventually created a warlock character and fell in love with her almost instantly. She was so much like a hunter, once I got her pet. Now, my characters are levels 60 (Hunter - Dominazia), 50 (Rogue - Gizelle) and 44 (Warlock - Juella).

As I've said, while playing this game, I've made a lot of friends and a brother (well, we treat each other as though we are like brother and sister. And now that I'm offline, I've called him a few times to get updates on the guild). I've even made numerous friends on the horde side and eventually created a Forsaken Warlock (undead) and named her Mortixia ("Morticia" was taken). Yeah sometimes the quests got boring...so my online brother (Jaladore) and I tend to do crazy things that are out of the ordinary. We've traveled to "unfinished" areas and go to the horde area just because. We've challenged to fight off things way higher leveled than us. We sometimes go to horde territory just to attack their guards. As for my horde friends, I've met a lot of them on forums...and yes, they're very popular especially amonst guilds. So, yes...this is where I've met up with a lot of the friends I've made playing the game...and we talk about anything and everything. Most times, the members on the forums (well at least the one where I co-admin as well as the one I own) are pretty much mature so swearing isn't filtered....

Another thing about Warcraft that I like (though there are always bugs a few days after the patch) are the upgrades. Yes, there are times when Blizzard will announce that a patch is out and will need to be downloaded. But since I've started playing the game, Blizzard has reconstructed characters, some npc's, opened up unfinished areas, introduced "Battlegrounds", opened up new End Game Instances, created special events...and are still working on all of them. They will also host their first Blizzcon in Anaheim in October. So, as far as World of Warcraft goes, they're not over yet. And...because of all this new stuff, I don't think they are over anytime soon.

I can say that my time here has dramatically dropped because of my love for WoW. I'm now going through a lot of withdrawls since my bf unplugged my computer on the 6th of September. Basically, we're moving into a new apartment on the 24th and he knows that if he doesn't unplug the computer...I probably won't help him. The last few days online (Labor Day Weekend) were one of my saddest. I told Jaladore that I just wanted to do anything crazy. Oh...I haven't had so much fun in such a long time online.

Anyway...I'm now talking as though there's no end. Bottomline, I love Wow.

WoW ftw!!!

Ah, I see Dom has been busy there. I can even vouch for her, after looking through a bit of the WoW forums.

(Boy got grounded on the forums by his mom - does that ring a bell, Dom? smile.gif )

Plus, that new update sounds good. Read about it yesterday, and all the changes.

Thumbs up for WoW.
Angel Del Mattina
OMG, that was priceless...and it was also circulated all over the WoW forums as well as online articles. Plus, she was a priest (maybe a shadow priest?...and if so...I'm sure his face melted).

/watched him get grounded and pwnd by his own mother
/laughed so much her face turned blue

See people, WoW has captured the hearts of young and older...between ages of teens to mommies...I'm sure daddies too.

I missed that? where link?

I am not suprised by the level of popularity WoW has coveted. It is a great game, fluid and amazingly precise. Sure, the grind to 60 is a bit boring, but finding the new area and exploring the stunning visuals in the game is just awesome.

at 60 the game really shines.

I have a feeling that last patch knocked off the old thread in their forums. I couldn't go too far back. Then I looked up "mother+son+warcraft" on google and I was able to get one of the articles printed up when it all happened:

World of Warcraft playing son busted by WoW playing mother

Elite Mom Smacks Down WoW-Playing Son

It's not on their forum either...so I'm pretty sure it was deleted out. Uh...it was hillarious....and went to 50 pages in less than 2 days.

P.S. I'd recommend the second link...since it posts the actual post that she typed.

I heard that WoW got a plague, and it was spread all over the world, contagious to everyone.

Few links about it here and a movie here.

Pretty amusing to watch the chaos.
