Is Suikoden IV a good game?

Most people consider it an awful game, but I don't think it's all that bad. It is definitely the worst one of the series so far, but I still think it's a half-decent game. You'd probably be better off playing one of the others in the series, though.

Suikoden 4 is rather unique. If you compare it to any of the other three then yes, it will not measure up to their standards. However, if you view it as a totally different game and ignore the title it's pretty good.

Now, it does have it's faults. I'll be the first to admit that. It's almost like it was rushed (which it probably was).. You get attacked alot, and the boat is something totally different.

It wasn't all that bad, if you like old school role playing games.
Certainly, in Coco's humble opinion, it doesn't have the magic of the earlier games...but I went through it without it feeling like a chore. So it has its charms.

Aside from sea travel. Blasted evil sea travel...man I hated it. Good thing you get teleportation eventually because...argh.

The plot seemed almost non existent though, aside from the first four hours...so I just focused on finding characters and treasure.

Minigames a-plenty. Those are fun. Cool unique functions to your base. Like the confession booth. Fun ship battles. Non Lego people.

as for a quick nice game, yeah Suikoden IV is okay. It has some nice hours in which you can enjoy yourself, but if I look at Suikoden history, then this game sucks.

No big story, plotline, characters etc etc...really, nothing special in what makes Suikoden special.
But even though, this game is fun if you don't mind the flaws and I heard that it wasn't that expensive nowadays.

Suikoden IV Is good

If you're going to get Suikoden IV make sure you buy Suikoden Tactics(to play afterward) as they are both linked and you will get a better appreciation of the games story when played together.

there have def. been worse games that have come out.. the game has some great things about it, example being the ship battles, some good characters and a decent enough story. But it suffers in many areas including boat travel and 4 character parties. It is a good play if you are a fan of the suikoden series but if you are not or have not played any other suikodens, this is the last game you want to start with.

As a matter of fact, no it is not a good game.
It is decent at best and compared to the other Suikoden games it looses by miles.
It misses characterdevelopment, you can hardly walk into any building at all, the islands are 9/10 empty (if there are 10 inhabited islands in the first place), the story is almost nonexistent and the sailing is just a bit chore.

The game has its pros and those are the soundtrack, which is imo a pretty good one and also the duels did a very good job and I enjoyed those duels to the fullest.
The graphics were alright when it came down to cinematics and surroundings, but battle-wise were again ridiculous.
If you have seen the spells of Suikoden II and III than you would expect something from IV, but they are to be honest worse than Suikoden I.

All in all, this game is decent and fun to play, but don't expect anything epic coming from this.

Suikoden IV wasn't that bad i believed it was quite good actually aside from yes all that time in the boat trying to find the treasure islands
