Alright, for anyone that remembers, I used to have a huge spot in my heart for Groove Adventure Rave(Rave Master in the US.) I had the first U.S. based website on it and promoted the heck out of it.
Unfortunately, it fell under the Cartoon Network curse. However, it didn't get very far. As far as I know, Tokyopop only released three volumes of the show on DVD, and those were all edited.
Obviously, the show pretty much bombed here while the manga held steady sales and was one of the best selling shonen manga every time a new volume was released.
So what happened? Did anyone bother watching it? The dub was pretty horrid and they did end up cutting some things from it which added to the charm of the show(most was humorous. Some violence was slightly altered, although the original hardly had blood at all.)
I think a lot of it was the time slot. Toonami used to be on weekday afternoons when kids got home from school. Rave aired during the Saturday night primetime slots. Why? If you're gonna market something like this, at least do it right. I didn't want to see it become another fad like DBZ, but still, it didn't deserve to get the shaft. I was looking forward to all the merchandise they were bringing over here. A lot of the Rave stuff costs a lot to import off Ebay, so I was mad.
I think what attracted me to this show in the first place was the character design. It just really stood out to me. The story was nothing you wouldn't find in a stereotypical RPG, but I think that helped hook me, too.
Anyways, any takers?

Ya, I love the show myself but it's a lot like you said. The times are just bad for me. I just got TiVo so it was off air before I was able to to TiVo it.

But ya anyways it was a pretty good show. I didn't really like the girl he traveled with though. She is pretty annoying. The Bad Guy leaders are all dunces kind of like One Piece. Other than that I think it's a pretty good show with a thought out storyline.

Elie's story was way better than what you probably saw. Her character was meant to be the damsel in distress at first anyways. She's an archetype character. Her design was awesome, too. Mashima was so into the fashion of his characters that he changed them up every now and then to keep them fresh. It shines through in the anime.
Ahahaha, the bad guys helped make this show what it is. They never made it to the "Shaking-Butt Gang" I assume? Oh man, I would've LOVED to see how Cartoon Network handled that.
...I never got the stuffed Plue that was supposed to come to the US. ARGH. I'm weird, I know.
Did anyone ever see the Gamecube game in stores?

I enjoyed watching the show back when it was still aired in AXN and it only stopped at that Rareglove son took over that evil society. Sorry if I can barely remember any of the names but with the way the anime ended it really pissed me off because it left people hanging. Unfortunately the continuation in the manga never got animated. <.<;;
I really like how they did the last few eps. because many things got revealed like the true story behind Musica and his master, that dragon guy's background and his transformation and what that Elemental Master (who'se name I forget) did was pretty sweet. v_v;; Oh yeah and the revelations about Elie's background was good.

Well, definitely not, since the dubbing is horrible(but in most cases, most english-dubbings suck.) I recommend the Manga though, I think it's taking a further step away from the anime series. The last volume came out not too long ago( I think it's two months ago? xD) And stufed Plue? I can't believe you are into that o.O Fanatic frenzy I guess.

Plue's a great character. His design is super simplistic, but it just looks really cool. Then all of the stuff he does makes him a total bad-ass. Why wouldn't anyone want a stuffed Plue that was to scale? It'd be awesome.
You gotta realize, I had this show like..a year or two before it was even licensed here, so I was really into it.

I watched it, but I mean the editing on Toonami wa just too much for me too handle. I wonder what happened at the end of the series (I never saw it when it aired).

I watched it on AXN over here (jap voices with subtitles), and it really left me hanging. The manga will also leave you hanging as well, since there's a big translation gap. =/ like, vol. 18-29 ARE NOT yet translated. Wow.

I really liked it, but they stopped airing it after a while. A shame.
