Been working on this a little at a time for a while now. First thing I've done in ages. It's not quite at the skill-level some of you are at, but I think it's at least better than some of my previous attempts.

Anyway, Sig -

It's actually the 2nd version. The 1st was pretty much the same, but without the scanlines over the BG. But I figured I needed something to give more focus on the stock and SC3 logo, so yeah.

And the Avi -

Originally I wanted to include the Soul Calibur in the BG of the sig somewhere, but that just didn't work out. So instead I decided to throw it in the avi BG, and I kinda like the result. The stock here may look odd, but finding good Siegfried stock isn't easy besides the one used for the sig. And I never did like using the same stock twice in a set. But over-all I think it turned out alright.

Annnnyyyywho. Thoughts? I know it's not exactly great compared to other things seen here, but any comments/critiques are appreciated. =p
~>uenki<~
I like it, I think it's very pretty ^^
Especially the avie, it gives a rather grand feeling and the bg and the stock blends in nicely.
I feel that the sig is a bit divided, I think that it might be better if the face of the background is a bit bigger, so that the focus is more on the eye and that it feels more complete.
I hope I'm making sense =s
Anyways, great job!
Alazuli
Prettyyyyy! <3
Nice to see you posting some of your PS work, Josh. Now get into the habit of it. xDD j/k

I think these have a cool feel to them, and the BGs remind me of ice, a lot. The stocks pretty cool, too, but that dude always freaked me out a bit so it's hard for me to look at. xD *is such a wimp*
I do agree with what Uenkii said about the sig. It would look much nicer if you were to enlarge the blended stock to bring in more focus on his eyes. Px
I think it may be just me, but the logo in your sig looks a bit blurry. I really dunno, but that can easily be fixed by using sharpened. Then again, I'm tired beyond all heck and my eyes could be playing tricks on me. So...yeah. ^^;;;

Great work, though. You sets have always had a nifty flair to them.
Apple
Oh yes! Always good to have proper scanlines. You get +'s, mister, haha.

Your av is like whoasex. The sig is nice, though the others said that thing about the eyes, I think it looks best in the background so it's not too distracting. The main big guy has a weird color to him, and I know it's so that he matches but I think it makes him look sickly. Other than that, it's c00l. You really ought to play with PS more often, haha. It gets nice results.

JD-san
Actually I did try enlarging the blended stock already, as I did wanna give more focus on the eyes. But when enlarged the eyes look messed up because of the darker, more abstract/distorted parts of the BG blocking them out. I tried it several ways, and it just wasn't working. I'd have had to redo the entire BG to get the reasults I wanted there. =/

I will however look into possibly revising it a bit, editing the stock colorization and sharpening the logo as said. And maybe touching up a few other things. I may also be continuing with a few more SC3 sets, which I'll just post in here when/if I get around to it. A Nightmare set would probably be next.

Anyways, thanks for the comments/tips. Tis appreciated.
JD-san

Revised a bit. Different colorization on the stock and some sharpening/contrast added to the logo. Not sure if it's much better, but meh.
Apple
I rather think it looks better. He's got a nice bluee color and I could swear he's shining more, hahaha. I like it more though in terms of how that guy is. He looks less sickly to me and I think that change in color flatters the stock more than the previous one.

Swanky, sir.

JD-san
Made another set, since I don't think my previous set was suiting me too well. This time, Dante. =D

Sig -

Been wanting to do something in red for a long time, but couldn't get anything looking right until this. The BG was put through so many filters, layer duplications, clorization and blending combo's, that I can't even remember everything I did to it. But I kinda like the results. =p I was kinda stuck in the end with what sort of border to go with, so I finally just did something to match the look of the font the best I could.

And then the avi -

Meh, nothing special. Just something simple to go with the sig. Same border and all.

Anyways, though it's definitely not perfect...I'm liking this better than the Siegfried set I recently did. I'd like to think I'm improving, though I know I'm still a n00b. =p But, thoughts anyone?
Apple
Yay! I like the border. It's simple, but different at the same time. It also seems to be a play on the typical dashed borders that girls sometimes moon over, hahaha. It's clever though, I like it. (:

The background is fine, I'd like to think. The faded stock of dante is kind of iffy though. I don't like the way it looks when you just lower the opacity, it really kind of takes away from the stock and the overall image. You could try blending it with hard light and using various stock-treatment tools to make it more subtle or obvious.

Good job though! I think you're improving. ):< The more you do something different, even slightly, is improvement.

Yeah, that's what I was going for. Something simple, yet not. Originally I was going to go with something dark/metallic, but I decided to try something new.

And about the BG Dante stock..I'll see what I can do. =p He seems to look odd in every way I try blending him, but I'll probably figure something out. I was running on no sleep all night when I finished it, so I guess I didn't have the patience to keep messing with it at the time. Despite it looking like I just lowered the opacity, there's actually some layer/filter effects blended over him that're barely visible. But meh, it could use something I guess.

Anyway, thanks for the comment/suggestion. =)

Wooo I love the avie ^^ it looks very cool with the reddish shadow and border.
As for the banner, it's pretty cool as well, just that the text seems a bit out of place, it just seems to have destroyed the flow of the piece..

Background looks good, though I would suggest a play of warm colours if reddish is what you wanna go for. Right now it's too red >.<, makes it a bit flat. Maybe having a variation of orange and brown in it might make it more interesting, more depth (that's the word I think..>.<'')

Other than that, I quite like this piece, you're improving! Keep photoshopping-ing! o.O
Final Fantasist
I was beggining to quesion myself when would a red one come up =p

Anyway, it's very good, I love the avie and the bg is also good. But i agree with uenki and apple, the left stock is way too off for me, and it kind takes some attention of the main stock.

The font and the letters are good, you did a good job recreating the logo. (or did you copied it from somewhere =p). Maybe they would look better in one of the corners?

Oh yeah, the border looks pretty good in there too, simple, yet not simple, very good.

Overall, nice work, just the font and left stock need a little more work ^^

No, it wasn't copied from anywhere. Just my own version of the logo. If you're curious what font it was, it's 'Artistamp Medium'. Just with a few simple effects and touch-ups added. Seems I get mixed reactions about the placement of the font. Others I've asked like it as is in the center, and some think it should go elsewhere..I personally like it where it is though, since it seems fitting around those center white spots in the BG. But maybe I'll fool around with it anyways.

Anyhow, thanks for the comments. =)

-Edit-

Screwed around with that BG stock. Dunno if this is much better. -

JD-san
So yeah... the date on this topic's last update was 6/27/07. Almost a full year ago, which is kinda sad. So a few centuries later, I got a request from a friend to make a Resident Evil piece featuring a huge picture of Nemesis with characters from RE3, Zero, 4, etc. So I actually fired up Photoshop again and gave it a shot.

This thing consisted of somewhere around 50 layers at one point. Some used in the final product, some not. I was trying to go for as many zombies/monsters blended into the background as possible. I didn't fit nearly as many as I wanted, but it still felt like enough I guess. I don't think it was too bad for my first project in almost a year. There's a million and 1 effects going on here, both subtle and dramatic, so it's a lot to take in. Even I had to stare at it for a while before figuring out if I liked it or not. The border itself isn't too creative. Just some simple grungy brushing around the edges with a couple filters. With as complex as the picture is, I didn't feel like a complicated border would work too well....or maybe I just got lazy. lol

Anyway, thoughts?
Seluna
I love it, even though I can't figure out half the things in the background (because I don't play RE? Lol) and don't really know the characters. But it's a nice way of blending it all, and kinda looks like a game poster of sort. I don't know the game well, but I think it fits the Resident Evil theme. And it looks balanced, with a nice color choice.

The only thing I have any problem with is the border. Because I'm a stickler to mono-color theme, so in my own personal opinion, it'll look even more perfect if the border is in a shade of red. But it could make the piece look too complicated, so *shrug*. It's great. ^^ You should do graphics work more, JD-chan! *glomps*

... Or, it's because you do one in a long time thus it's all the much more better? ohmy.gif tongue.gif
gelmar
I love it! It looks like you spent lots of time doing it. I only know RE 3 so far. ( I am going to get RE 4 today).
It fits great to a survival horror game. The backround is "bloody". I like it.
Alazuli
I really like the piece. The grungey background fits very well for the Resident Evil theme. It reminds me a lot of blood or something meaty like that.

You really got the horror feel down for it, it looks really good.

lol yeah I know. It takes a few seconds before you figure out what's going on in the bg, but I kinda like it that way. And to think I originally wanted to cram a lot *more* stuff in there. XD

I'm very similar to you in preference on the subject of mono-color, but red definitely didn't work for that border. I needed a color that'd stand out from the background and work well with the the grunge and other effects going on. Any more red would've been overpowering, so I had to choose a weaker, yet fitting color there.

Thanks. Exactly what I was going for. =) I wanted a background that'd look good but also bring blood/gore to mind at the same time, and I guess it worked out alright.

Thanks for the comments & whatnot. And as for my current set... well it's just a place holder that took not even a half hour to make. It's based on The Darkness (360/PS3 game) which I'm playing right now. It's pretty simply made and I really didn't do much but some blending and color edits followed by a border effect. I would've done more with it but I just needed something quick since I was wearing that Dante set for over a year. x_x

Anyways, thanks again for the comments. Glad you guys like the RE piece and since I've been in an artsy mood lately, I should update with more stuff soon. Hopefully before next year.. >_>
Seluna
Oohh... I see. Well, it looks great as it is anyway. ^^

I like your current set too. The placement and all are very nice. You really really do have the eyes of a signature maker. Well, I'll be waiting to see your next piece (if it's coming). ^^
Apple
Waaaaaaaa, I wonder if cutting all those characters was an arse to do. :<

I really like how you designed the entire piece! :> It works out really well, and resembles a movie poster. Really well done on that part!

I also think the border is a little wonky. @_@ I think red would've suited it better than orange. Yarrrg.

You have no idea... That was definitely the worst part of making that piece. What's even worse is that there was actually double or triple the amount of stocks to what you see there. I tried several different pictures as stocks before scrapping them all and going for a new concept all together. Originally, it was all the same characters, but stocks with in-action poses (shooting, dodging, etc. etc.). And then there were zombie and villain stocks I made that just didn't fit. And after getting through about 75% of all that stock-work, I decided to scrap that entire concept and look for stocks with neutral poses to make a more poster-like piece instead, which was the final outcome you see here. I have a bad habbit of getting really far with something just to decide I want something else... Sometimes my early result just doesn't fit the original idea or inspiration, and I then feel the need to start all over again, even if it already looked fine. It can be a real pain in the ass. =/

And thanks for the comment... I'll keep that border thing in mind, although I'm getting split opinions on it... I think to make a good red border, I'd probably have to redo the style to make it look right. I'll screw around with it later just for kicks.
