i have never been so dissapointed in my life. i am a huge AFI fan...but this cd was terrible! i cried for hours! how could they make an album like this? i did enjoy their 6th track; it was heavily influenced by industrial. but overall, i gave the album a 2 out of 10. i hope they make a better album next time around

I actually dig AFI quite a bit but I have to admit this album disappointed me a little, I thought Sing the sorrow wa spretty consistent throughout, this has "hardcore" elements, where Havok breaks into screamo for no reason. I quite like 4 and 6, but I hope this grows on me. Plus the versino that leaked that I have clearly isn't the final mix.

I've listened to AFI for years. I discovered them back when Black Sails came out and Jade's presence had significantly influenced the mood of the music. Their earliest material is hardcore punk and by Shut Your Mouth... Davey had developed a more serious overcast to his lyrics. I still hear from friends to this day, "Art of Drowning was their best album, hands down." If that is your opinion and you haven't heard them from their early years, then I suggest you do so. AoD is incredible, without a doubt, lyrically it soars. I just hate when they're judged simply by their mainstream success and the stereotypes it has brought upon them. Sing The Sorrow grew on me and I can say in all honesty that I thoroughly enjoy that album and its diversity. I've only heard the few things that have been publicly released from the new album, and its nothing I've been overwhelmed by as of yet. As usual, I love the prelude, but I'm really anxious to hear the rest of the album, excluding Miss Murder.

Pffft. Their early years were basically a different band with a different sound, and frankly it was ok punk. I hate the use of hardcore these days since imo hardcore = minor threat, gorrila biscuits, that kinda thing. They've at least put themselve sinto a position where they can draw a type of fan that doesn't have a alot of bands to loo kup to; they're pretty unique in the kind of band they are, and the mainstream publicity they get.

answer that...proud of ya....etc.. i can tolerate their earlier albums because i love them so much. i truly believe art of drowning is their best album, not because its mainstream, but because of the emotions they bring out of me. it is a really great album. i loved sing the sorrow right when i first heard it...and i really hate it when fans say their old stuff is better. i don't think so. i think they've grown and i'm glad jade decided to come aboard. AFI do NOT suck, and that's really immature of people to say so, i just wanted to point that out.

I don't like their new album very much. I love Sing the Sorrow. I'm very tired of hearing Miss Murder.

I don't see how it's immature of anyone to voice their opinion just as you have. With that being said I'd like to share my opinion. AFI have and always will be a bunch of posers, from their early days and making claims to be " punk " and their newer sound which is obviously influenced by being on a larger label and wanting to sell records to their MTV fans, is total sellout garbage. I would have been happy if these guys died off ten years ago, but somehow, even after pretty much re-inventing the sound that their fans have loved in such a radical way that is almost unbelievable, they're still around.
I'm gonna have to go with the whole " they suck " opinion myself.

I used to dig their older stuff back when I listened to a lot of punk. Sing the Sorrow and everything before that were pretty good, but this new stuff is horrible. They sound like Avenged Sevenfold which is definitely not a good thing. I don't think I'll ever give them a listen to again because like TED said, they've become sellout garbage.
