pretty straight forward there arent too many runes but some of the ones ive seen kick ass

Soul Eater, Bright Shield Rune and the Black Swrod Rune.

The moves, the animations and the whole story revolving around them is simply superb. It6's all well done and I think those are the only runes that aren't overated or underated, they get the respect they deserve =p

flashes became the stars.
The 27 gems adorning Sword and Shield transformed into the 27 True Runes.

Others I like are Bright Shield/Black Sword, Beast Rune and the Hachifusa Rune.

For awhile now it's been the Darkness Rune. I don't know why Konami did not add this spectacular rune in SIII and V. Black Shadow owns everything.

That's the Creation Myth. The Rune of Beginning is one of the resulting 27 True Runes, and apparently decided to be some copycat and cut itself into to two and look like the original Sword and Shield.

27 True Runes
In the beginning, there was "darkness."

The Rune of Life and Death (Soul Eater), gotta love the scythe looking symbol for this rune, there couldn't be any better symbol for this one.
I also like the Beast Rune, since it is one of my favourite runes aswell, the symbol looks pretty nice =).

I always thought the Dragon Rune looked pretty interesting.

I wish I could find pics of the runes, though. I used to have two pages from some sort of artwork booklet, but I forget where I got them, so I can't find them. x_X So I'm just basing this off of my memory.

A little bit of a sidenote: Did anybody else notice that the innermost section of the Sun Rune has a similar design to the Moon Rune? I wonder if it's intentional, and if it has any particular meaning...

I dont think so the blue moon rune seems to signify something
that doesnt happen every day
hence the name blue moon
however there is a correlation as to the natural and unnatural
so maybe the sun rune and the blue moon can have some relation
just my two cents....

My favorite Rune...? Besides Soul Eater I like True Wind. Having S rank on Wind and using The Sredding was awesome. =p

I think this topic could use a little upgrade so I'll say that my favorite unite magic is Thunder God(from SV). You really can't go wrong with this spell unless you cheat and bust out with kill all star rune.

Hmmm.... funny am I only one who prefers the Dragon Rune?

Anyway Aside from that Rune - I prefer the True Wind rune both for attacking and healing. Kewl

Still waiting for the day when my Bright would be the next bearer of the Dragon Rune.

I've only played the 3rd, 4th and 5th games. I haven't been able to find the first two. The rune I like would be the Rune of Punishment, Dawn Rune, Twilight RUne and the Sun Rune.

the Fury Dragon rune... or whatever Rune Oulan in suikoden II has... i love it when Battle Oath makes her Berserk- then it's Dragon Rage! time!

The Rune of Punishment is pretty good, and the True Fire Rune kicks massive amounts of butt because of its ability to hit large areas for large damage...

But the Soul Eater pwns all.

The Blue Gate (note that I didn't say Pale Gate) rune from the original Suikodens r0x0rs. The Pale Gate got on my nerves. You ever notice that when Luc used that rune in Suikoden III, it did supermondojumbofreakinridiculoustupid amounts of damage, but when any other characters used in (was there anyone besides Viki that could?), it was just...blah.

Oh, and Zerase's Star Rune. That thing is nuts powerful. And to make matters worse, Zerase is a magical juggernaut.

Isn't it possible to give a Fury Rune to Oulan then? If her magic is high enough so she can equip to Runes. It'll make her berserk all the time and so you don't have to waste a Battle Oath for a possible chance of Oulan getting Beserk.

Star Rune was really interesting, i dunno if its a favorite though... I liked the Sun Rune, just because it's so powerful

I really did like Pale Gate rune, and I like the Idea of the Gate rune- How it's so strong that even divided it's unbelievable. Or so I assume since everyone marvels at Leknaat or fears her.

I also did like the True Lightning rune- It was just very handy, whereas the True Fire rune was just meh.

The Star rune was very handy too- Mainly in the little "war battles" I would just lure people to Zerase and then she would unleash her rune, then everyone would be pwnd. lol.

I'm not a big fan of the Fire rune.

Earth rune's 4th spell (Earthquake) is nice, but the rest of the spells for the rune are just Meh, and the True Earth is very handy since it deals so much damage (much like TWind, except you get to use it in the main story ).

I can only think of two strong true runes,
"The rune of punishment"
"soul eater"

Rune of Punishment is not a strong Rune at all. Although in the game it showed some big explosions, every time you used it in battle you would end up damaging yourself.

There was even an instant death spell, but it has a chance of killing you aswell, I say...it is crap =P.

Star Rune was an okay Rune, but too overpowered imo, Dawn and Twilight were okay aswell, but again...overpowered. Especially Twilight Rune.

Well. I think Eight-Fold will be quite strong ^-^

The Absolute One, the One Hero. Lot's of mystery there yet, and power methinks to lead and destroy a Kingdom such as Aronia and yet establish one it's place which is equally or subsequently more powerful.

The True Lightning Rune just pwns in game, for me, more than any other thus far seen/used. Awesomeness.

Yuber's eightfold rune. The unlockable chapter at the end of Suikoden III allows you to use it right? Or was that something else?

I would like to find out more about the Dragon rune too. It's with Milia if I'm not mistaken.

As for non true rune, I like the Cyclone rune. Can attack enemies and heal allies at the same time. Love The Shredding

i really like the sun? or dawn? rune.. i cant remember which one they had in Suikoden V where they evaporated the water supply of that village, but i liked that one

my favorite rune would be the pale gate rune, and the dawn / twighlight rune. both of them together kick butt.

Anyways. FYI: The Dawn and Twilight Runes are not True Runes. They are pieces of the Night Rune (also known as the Zodiac Sword or the Star Dragon Sword as used by Viktor in SI and SII) that broke off from it when it split from its intwined place with the Sun rune. It was the Night Rune, not the Blue Moon Rune, that is brother to the Sun Rune. The Dawn and Twilight Runes, though they are not True Runes, ARE unique. The Twilight and Dawn Runes are considered the child runes of the Sun Rune and the Star Rune is considered a child rune of the Night Rune.

Favorite True Runes:
Rune of Change (held by the leader of the Sindar)
Rune of Punishment and Atonement
Eightfold Rune

Favorite Non-True Runes:
Blue Gate Rune
Conquerer Rune also known as the Black Rune
Exertion Rune

actually the rune of punishment had one or two big time attacks that did not hurt your party, you just didnt get a lot of em. I think one of the attacks had 1 and the other attack had 3. Only the minor damage magic attacks hurt you i believe

I've only played Suiko V so I can only comment on those runes

The combined Dawn and Twilight rune just because the most annoying useful thing in the game. Huge damage plus heal all party members? If the two runes combined are still not as powerful as the sun rune then I'm glad we don't get the sun rune in-game...

As for non true-rune... I'd have to go for the simple Magic Absorb rune... ok, so it's useless on it's own but combine it with a rage rune or a cyclone rune and your in business....

wrong combine it with the star rune then your in buisness.

Meh, I don't like Zerase... she's too overpowered... and so is her rune. Anyway if you have the cyclone rune (Is that what it's called? I'm talking about the advanced wind rune...) then the level 4 magic not only hurts the enemy but heals all your allies... Combine that with chain magic and that equals full healing for all your allies as well as decent damage to the enemy.

I'll go with the True Fire Rune on this one. Definetely got a well drafted story behind it for the pain the true runes can actually bring both to non-users and users alike. Also brings out the symbology of hero, unlike the other ones where the RoP just steals life and the Sun Rune is a dice roll that needs help from two non true runes.

Second would be the Fierce Tiger Rune. Just as affective as the Falcon Rune, only a lot more stylish to it. Those are my two cents.

Soul Eater, hands down. After that, I enjoyed the True Rune of Punishment.
