Hylian Girl
I was just wondering if all of you prefer young Link or adult Link? Not just his use of items, the songs he learns, his swords, etc. but just the character himself. Your reasons can be personality wise, or even looks wink.gif

I can't choose! Adult Link is awesome because he's more my age tongue.gif lol just kidding. He's good because well yes, his inventory, the temples, and just the difference in the game all together. I wouldn't say he's more mature because young Link is as mature as a kid comes. But then again young Link is amazing too. It's all very confusing to me tongue.gif Young Link is who you see in like every game apart from OOT and TP. Young Link and adult Link both have their own qualities, etc. I really don't know which one I prefer, so I can't really answer my own question!

But I'm sure all of you Zelda fans could pick a favourite, or maybe you're like me and can't. If you can't answer the questions, just give your opinions on both like I did. I love them both the same! So, howbout you?
Raincoat
Hmm, hard one. I think I prefer Adult Link. He looks better, can do cooler things, and a little kid who doesn't talk it just plain weird, but when Adult Link does it, it seems normal.

But... being a kid can be funner, because it's fun to cause trouble, and a kid chasing chickens is more normal than some adult guy. If some guy were chasing my chickens, I would be like "What the...?" but if some kid did, it would seem somewhat normal.

Lol, don't ask. I like Adult Link more ^^
Xerno
Adult Link by far. I generally don't like playing as a kiddo all that much, though Young Link is actually still decent enough. But I think Adult Link is just all-around better: his weapons, his moves, his voice as well, and sure; he looks good too. And also the personality, Adult Link at least has an understanding of all what goes on, Young Link doesn't always understand certain things (like in MM, he doesn't understand why someone valued a certain item, which served as a memento).

Actually not, he's a late teenager in most games. Like in Zelda 1 & 2, A Link to the Past, Link's Awakening, Oracle of Ages/Seasons, and I've been told he actually was one in Wind Waker as well (but if so, I can see why his chibi design would make you think otherwise xP ).
Hylian Girl
Tia, Link like never talks. He only talks in WW for like half a second lmao he says "Come on!" later in the game.

I know he's around 12 or 13 in OOT, and in WW I think he's around the same age. Hmm, I know he's not a child, but still quite young! Just saying, in OOT he's an adult, and in the other ones he's much younger. smile.gif
Raincoat
Yes, I know he doesn't talk, he's one of those silent types lol.

But yes, I prefer adult Link, he is also better looking as an adult ^^

The only Zelda games to feature Young Link are Ocarina of Time and Majoras Mask. Every other Zelda game, Link is "adult" Link, 16 years of age.

Link in Wind Waker is the same age as adult Link in Ocarina of Time. Remember right at the begining when your grandmother gives you the Tunic?

"This is given to those who have come of age"

Coming of age being the age Link was when he sealed Ganon in OoT. All this is explained in the story. Pay attention, and listen to Xerno. He may be Belgian, but he is wise!
Ragnarok
Well personality wise, its kinda hard to tell. Considering Link doesen't have a personality. He never speaks, the only sounds that come out of his mouth are grunts.

So personality wise there is no choice.
Hylian Girl
Lem, Link in WW seems a HELL of a lot younger than adult Link in OOT. I do pay attention to the stories, etc. Isn't adult Link like 20 in OOT? Not 16? blink.gif I pay attention but, this is just...hmm. 16 eh? Well, okay. I thought Adult Link seemed older than 16; as I said, more like 20, and WW Link, etc seemed younger than that. Okay, thanks then nocomment.gif

Sorry Lem but thats not exactly true...
in LOZ, Link was about 12...in AoL he was indeed 16..
in ALttP he was around 12 again..
in LA he was about 13..
in WW he was about 11...the "this is given to boys who come of age" thing was referring to when OoT Link STARTED his quest..he was about 10 as child Link...(Tetra was about 14 in WW)
Minish Cap Link..hmm theres no real clue..id say he was between 13 and 16 in that one...
Oracle games? same age as ALttP Link..

biggrin.gif in TP hes gonna be around 17..

at any rate i prefer Young Link because well...hes the Link ive grown to love over the years...(remember in Smash Bros Melee? Young Link's trophy...check it out..it says "This is the one that is often referred to as the "True Link"...he appeared in most of the games...)

Hylian Girl...NO!! Adult Link is actually a teen of 16 to 17 years old...in OoT he started off around 10 years old and then was sealed away for 7 years...thus he woke as 17 years old...
The Hero of Time
If it was the age when Link started his quest, Link in Wind Waker would be 9/10, as that's how old Young Link in OoT is. He isn't that age, how young would that make his younger sister? blink.gif

It says the age when he defeats Ganon, which is Adult Link, people in Young Links time had no idea of the danger, because it hadn't happned yet.

Though, it seems I've gotten bogus information/bad memory about some of the other Links, who do appear to be around 12 after some research. Appologies, even fanboys get junk wrong. =P
Xerno
There's one I disagree with either way:

QUOTE (Elhaym Van Houten)

Pics from the manual:

That does not look like a 12 year old to me. It's his art from the manual that has always made me believe he was about 16 or so in ALttP. Imo he definitely looks like a teenager here (especially the face, I wouldn't say that's a kid's face anymore).
The Hero of Time
Yeah I forgot to mention that in most of the artwork, Link looks much older than a 12 year old or whatever.

But, that's just what it is, artwork. This is a fake world we're talking about, maybe that's how a 12 year old would look in that world. *shrugs* The games dont really give a thorough expination.

umm...if WW Link was 16, how come hes so damn short? also why does Tetra (who is about 14) call him "kid" and all the other people in the game refer to him as a "runt"?
hmmm... nocomment.gif

I have a friend that's 21 and only 5 feet tall. I fail to see the point.

Jamie, you runt. Jamie, you kid.

Wow, you're older than me, yet I still managed to get the words out. Again, I dont see the point. Runt and Kid are just degrading terms. Also, where does it say that Zelda is 14?
Elhaym Van Houten
it pretty much insinuated that Tetra is OLDER than Link..
but if you must believe in that little world where cel-shaded Link is an adult...go for it..
*snigger snort*
Hylian Girl
Lmao.

Omg, I knew all this weird info coulnd't be right. 17 sounds right for OOT, and the 12, etc. seems right as well. Phew, I'm glad that's over with.

But...I think Tetra is older than Link in WW, and I don't think he's 16 at all. He looks around 11 to 13 TOPS.
The Hero of Time
How can you tell how old a Cel Shaded character looks. It's an abstract artform. How can you tell how old a character in a fictional world, is. These fictional characters may not look the age real people would.

The only solid indication to Links age is in the story, and the story indicates he is 16.

It implies Zelda is older, but never mentions an age, so I'm still curious where you get this 14 number from.
Red_ryaN
i like adult link better...he just looks cooler. and his weapons are deffinitly cooler. mainly his sword. his shields. and boots/tunics. and he can ride epona (of were talking about OOT..which i am always talking about) the only think young link has going for him is that troublesome sling shot.. it pwns.
but other than that. adult link alllll the way tongue.gif
Shadows of essence
First off, I have to agree with everyone saying link was a lot older in the earlier (when they were released) games. I remember flipping through the manuals and seeing an older teen at the very least.

I have to vote older link hands down. Through the pics and cartoon series (yes there was a series of Link shorts in the old Super Mario Brother show. Shows just how old I am smile.gif ) Link was always in his late teens or early 20's.

Not only does a sword and shield seem out of place in the hands of a kid, it just does not seem right. When I was younger a young link might have seemed cool, but I am older now (see above comment) and it doesn't feel right having a child-like charecter in that life-death position (the cartoonish feeling of WW negated that a lot).

Besides, older link just looks cooler...

Hylian Girl
Lem, we can tell how old the cel-shaded Link is by his looks, his voice, his actions, etc. His grunts and groans can even tell us.

He may be in a fictional world but it's not all that hard to tell these things.
Raincoat
Hmmm... if 7 years went by in OoT, then yes, I can see him being 10 as the younger Link and 17 as older.

Also, you can't really go by height. If you look at manuals in other games, Final Fantasy for example, the people are usually around 5'1 - 5'3, although, I find that odd lol. And some people are just plain short/tall.

I agree with Shadow, the Link's in older games is older.

That's all I can think of on the subject at the moment.
Pesmerga
I prefer the older link, cause he looks cooler imo, but if we go by the in game legends, it says a "young hero" so that can never be adult link.
So even though I prefer adult link, I think young link is the true hero of the game.
Kaze
Adult Link all the way. He has better inventory, temples, and story.
JD-san
Adult Link, easily. I dislike having to play as a child main character in any serious-themed RPG/action-adventure game. I just can't get into it as much as if it were an adult character. That feeling of maturity adds a lot compared to playing as Young Link, and for this reason among various others, OoT remains my favorite of the series. Well, so far, that is. TP is looking like it'll probably take it's place as my new favorite, and I'm definitely glad it's featuring adult Link instead of the kid again.
Alazuli
I always thought Windwaker's Link was 10 or 13. o.O; I've never met a 16 year old who sounds as young as he does. Same for Link to the Past since on the GBA, since they gave him a voice. Sorry, that's very hard to believe that he's been 16 in every other Zelda game.

Same goes for judging by the art, I get the impression that he's 10 - 13.

Anyhoo, I think I'm more of an Adult Link fan. He's a total bishi. Haha, well, that and I'm more partial towards the tools and gadgets he gets. I think it's a little more believable when it comes to an adult Link saving Hyrule as opposed to child Link. In all honesty, I would much rather back away from a child with a sword than ask him to go save my horse, for example. My goodness, my luck he gets blade-happy or his attention would divert to the first butterfly he sees. xD
LifeonMars73
Since Link has no personality whatsoever and the differences between Young and Old Link are minimal at best (barring differing artforms), I'm choosing to interpret this as "Do you prefer the game world's featuring Young Link or Old Link?"

And I'm going to have to go with Old, simply for the rendition in OOT where he wakes up in a beautifully designed war ravaged land.
Hylian Girl
Young Link is very mature, he goes around saving the world and Princesses and things tongue.gif Come on, I don't think maturity is a factor here wink.gif

Link does have a personality, he just doesn't speak. He does in WW, but only when he says "Come on!" to Melody and Makar.

Also, WW Link IS only around 12 or 13, not 16.
LifeonMars73
The only way to tell Link's personality is through the actions he takes. And since every action is controlled by the player and the Zelda games themselves, wherein Link can only do good deeds, he has no personality.
Xanadu
Okay I've notice a few of you stating that Link in Wind Waker is actually 17 like the Link in OoT. BULLSHI#!! He is the same age as young Link in OOT! They know that he was in actualy fact 10 because he had aged in appearance but not in mind, in his head he was still 10 and the True Link is a kid, but he was sealed, the Hero of Time is classified as a kid.

PS pardon my swearin.
Elhaym Van Houten
Link in Adventure of Link is most definitely 16 years old..thats the only older game where we have a definite on his age...I do think Lem is on to something about A Link to the Past but i do not think Link was meant to be older than 13 in that game..

i always preferred Young Link
chaos768
I prefer Adult Link myself. Reasoning, not real sure, I just find him to be a more interesting character. Plus, he's just more versatile. On a side note, I could never understand why people consider Zelda games to be RPG's.....they're platformer/adventure.....oh well. tongue.gif
cloud_strife23
I like Young Link. He is more agile. He can also impress the ladies blush.gif . LOL
