Would something like this work? Of course it wouldn't be the exact same setting as Chrono Trigger; but think about it, the game is pretty well equipped to be a MMORPG.
Different Time Periods = different leveling areas that could be seperated based on level
Character Development = you could be a mutant, robot, human, whatever. Also, you choose a magic field to be the best in; or if it fits you better, go Ayla style with no magic ability, and just uber melee skills.
Working Together = Duel techs + triple techs that existed in Chrono Trigger could be easily put into a MMORPG setting, which would be awesome. There would be no "classes" but different magic fields, and different paths within those magic fields to choose abilities. For example, in WoW "LF1M UBRS, need a priest." But in CT: Online "LF1M Black Omen Ruins, need healing spec'd water"
Chrono Trigger Lore = Going back in time and witnessing events that happened in the game, going to places that you visited as Chrono, maybe storming Magus' castle? Who knows, the possibilties are limitless.
You start out by creating a character (example)
Name- Adamar
Race- Human
(You would then design the look of your character)
Proficiency - Lightning [ ]
Fire [ ]
Ice [ ]
Water [ ]
Shadow [X]
Melee (No magic field) [ ]
You would then start in the time period that goes with your race. A human would start in the 1000 A.D. A Mutant would start in... Well, I dunno, prolly in 1000 A.D. but on the mutant continent. And robots would of course start in the future.
You create your character and then spawn at the End of Time and undergo a quick tutorial over the game with the old man at the post, and then you awake from your dream and the game has begun.
Does anybody else think something like this would be sweet? What can I say, i'm a CT junkie, and i'm bored.
BTW, the music in the game would be amazing if you kept the original soundtrack from Chrono Trigger
You would have to hold true to the design work of CT, as well, the Akira Toriyama (Spelling?) anime art would have to stay, although i'm not that big a fan of anime
