I was wondering if anybody uses a Macbook (or the iBook, the older version) to game on. I'm thinking of picking one up for college anyways next year, and a lot of the features entice me, except I don't know how it runs games. Any thoughts?

You know honestly I wouldn't recommend a mac if you're interested in gaming at all. I mean I realize that now they're probably moving on to intel processors allowing you to use windows and all of that, but if you want a gaming laptop I recommend going with a PC.

Do you have the specs on the MacBooks? I could let you know then if it's going to be a good gaming machine for ya.

MacBook Pro

As for gaming, I don't know if running Windows on a Mac will offer you the possibilities of a real PC. I know someone who as a MacBook Pro and he found that Windows runs faster on it than on his PC(which is supposed t be pretty powerful). Maybe it will be the same for games... Guess i'll have to try it myself

I use a MacBook Pro, and I'd honestly recommend that over the MacBook, if you're looking into gaming. You can install Boot Camp, which will partition the HDD, and allow you to install Windows XP on the computer. From there, you can use either OS (OSX or WXP), to do as you see fit. I don't have many games, I mainly use the windows side to play counter strike and Quake 4, and both operate smoothly and quickly (though I guess that isn't saying much).

If you're really looking into gaming, the macbooks are the only way to go, as they have the intel processors that allow for the installation of windows. Nothing else on the macs work for that kind of thing.

Awesome, thanks for the replies guys. I'm trying to figure out what type of computer I want for college, and I love some of the built in-programs that the MacBooks have-namely Garage Band-as well as overall simplicity. I've got a year to look it over, so thanks again!

Origins, the second one on that page or the third one ( in the Pro section that is ) will work for you as far as gaming goes. They have a gig of ram, a decent enough graphics card, and the dual core processor. It should work out rather nicely.

I'd recommend going with one of the new Sony Vaio ( Or however you spell it ) machines myself if you want a gaming laptop... But two of those three pro machines should be just about as good.

Considering the requirements for Quake are pretty sick, they recommend a 4ghz machine with the latest graphics card and about a gig of RAM to run it's high settings ... 2ghz for the low settings with like a Radeon 9800 Pro or better and 512 of ram... But I wouldn't recommend running it on those settings. I wouldn't say that's not saying much if it runs smoothly on your laptop.
