Dude, has anyone ever seen any of the Battle Royale stuff? They've done two movies in Japan, a manga sereis that goes through fifteen full books from Tokyopop, and it all comes from a book. I thought that the manga was wonderful. It really shows what a great gift life is, and how far most people would go to keep theirs. Here are a few pics that should show you an idea of what these things are about.



It seemed like a really famous thing. Playboy magazine actually did a review of it. In real life, however, I have only ever met one other person that has read it aside from me. Has anyone here ever read it or watched it? What did you think?

Seen the movies, read the manga, and read the book. Why do I like it so much?

Because it's a modern-day lord of the flies. That's all it is, really, and it that alone is pretty damn awesome, certainly awesome enough to merit me going through the same story 3 times (manga, first movie, and book). The manga is really close to the book, but the movie has some striking differences. The entire ending, for example, is different, but I'm sure you've noticed that.

I enjoyed it, it's a lot like GANTZ and lord of the flies.

Yeah, but it is much more interesting. Lord of the Flies kept me reading stuff I honestly didn't want to read, as it had hardly anything to do with the plot. Plus, it was written old style. That is the same reason I like the newer Lolita movie rather than the older one, and the reason that I like the new Willy Wonka movie rather than the old one, and so on. I coudn't get through Lord of the Flies because it referenced to many old things, and it was generally a boring read. But yes, from what I've heard, it sounds a lot like Lord of the Flies.

What do you think about this idea? A Battle Royale videogame. I'm thinking, Rpg/Survival/Third Person Shooter. Like a freaky MGS game, sort of.

I have read the book and about the first three manga. I quite enjoyed the book. Supposedly there is a US version of the movie in the works. It will get absolutely slaughtered I am sure. I haven't had the luck of seeing the movie myself, though I would like to. It's good stuff.

Loved the book. (: A personal friend of mine let me borrow it and I absolutely adore it. However, the movie was kind of bland in my opinion. But that's my own biased opinion, as I think all those crazy asians act like crazy super asians, hahaha.

I liked lord of the flies back when i read it as part of my high school classes years ago, but I couldn't really get myself into this series, the movies kinda made me feel like i was watching a japanese school version of SAW and SAW2, which werent great movies I thought, but were mostly a suspense and gross out film. The violence wasn't bad, but I wish there was more to it than the blood, death, violence and betrayal.

Oh my god! Battle Royale is my favourite manga EVER! the artwork in so intricate and detailed I just absolutely love it! I reccomend you watch the film, the read the novel, then read the manga. It just seems to wrok better I think. Otherwise the movie'll be a huge dissapointment, which it shouldnt be because it rules! It stars Chiaki Kuriyama (Gogo from Kill bill) as Takako Chigusa, so you KNOw it's gonna be good

I have a question. Who is the author of the book, Battle Royale? I was thinking of checking it out a few weeks ago, and since this topic is dedicated to this subject, can anyone help me out?

I have watched the two movies... but I think that the first movie is a lot more interesting than the second one.
