While discussing the future of Dragon Ball Z fighting games in an exclusive interview with Namco Bandai Chief Producer, Daisuke Uchiyama, GameDaily learned that both the Tekken and Soul Calibur teams were working on new titles in their respective series. It's been known for some time that Namco has been working on Tekken 6 for the PlayStation 3, but this is the first confirmation that a new Soul Calibur title is in the works.

Nothing is currently known about the new weapon-based fighter other than the fact that it's in production. However, with Tekken 6 skipping an arcade run and heading straight for the PlayStation 3, it's very possible that Soul Calibur IV could follow both Tekken 6 and Soul Calibur III by releasing straight to consoles. It's also very likely that the next Soul Calibur will be gracing next generation consoles. It has been rumored for some time that Soul Calibur III would see an Xbox 360 release, but it may in fact end up being Soul Calibur IV instead.

We'll have more on the next Soul Calibur game whenever Namco Bandai decided to officially unveil it.

Soul Calibur 4 has been confirmed being worked on. Namco Bandai have yet to unveil Soul Calibur 4 just yet. Soul Calibur 4 would most likely be heading to for the next generation consoles. It's unknown if it will be exclusive to one console or not yet. I would assume that Soul Calibur 4 will be released for PS3 without a doubt, but unsure if X-box 360 or Wii will get a release.

A sequel to a popular game? Who would have guessed?!

I guess it's nice to have a confirmation, though. It was wierd that Namco made SC3 PS2 exclusive, since that game sold more on the Cube than anything else, guess Sony put a big wad of cash in thier pocket. So, that might happen again, but Namco is heavily supporting the 360, so it's hard to tell at this point.

I'll be eagerly awaiting the first details and images of this game, the last few weeks I've been playing SC3 a hella lot, superb game, better than the second, which in turn is better than the first. Hopefully this fourth installment will follow suit.

Now if only they'd spill the beans about the Soul Calibur for DS...

Heh. Good to hear. Just need some details now. Hopefully it'll be on the Wii too, otherwise I won't be able to play. thatsuck.gif Could be a very interesting game for the Wii though.

Surprised? Not really.

To be honest im not the biggest fan of the SC series. The games are alright, but they get boring quite quickly. I had a lot of hate for Soul Caliber 3, 2 was good, but 3 just seemed not as good.

I mean, I might give the game a shot, but im not dishing out the money to buy it. I know its not going to be worth it.

Hmm, good to know.
Knowing Namco, they'll add again new features, characters and other things. I am kinda looking forward to this, even though SC III wasn't that amazing.

Spoiled Gamers, the whole lot of you.
My opinion of SC III aside (given that SC II felt more like SC 1.5), Its good news. It'll be interesting to see what they can do with the create-a-characters on next-gen (rework the whole engine? Sucks for them..xD) though they may just drop it completely. Its not really news, but I'm a patient gamer and I'll wait for some official stuff like a fanboy. tongue.gif

Well it's no surprise that SC4 is under development. Hard to imagine what they could do better though, I hope they're creative. So I'll hold my comments and speculations until I see some screenshots or videos.

I hope not. The create a character system is SC3 was good, but not great. It wasn't as in depth as I would have hoped. I wanted something more like what you'd find in a wrestling game, editing the various body part sizes, shapes, and being able to create your own custom move set. It would be have been bitchin' to create a hybrid character with Taki and Talims moves.

I guess though, that's not as easy as a wrestling games, where every character can move in the same way; In Soul Calibur, characters moves are weapon dependant. But, I'm sure they could think of something, if they wanted to. At least make characters moves that dont use weapons exportable.

It'll be interesting to see what direction the game takes in term of artwork. The second game had a slight anime design, wheras the third went for a more realistic approach.

Can't wait for the first details of this game.

Oh yeah, the Create a Character system was interesting, but as mentioned above, it was a bit lacking. It's probably not the easiest thing in the world to make a good one for a fighting game obviously, since it's never successfully been done before, to my knowledge.

It could still use some more freedom in customising the moves and the characters body and such.

Given that it was the first run, and really Namco's first try at anything similar, my expectations were met pretty well. tongue.gif
The main thing I disliked about the create-a-soul system was the whole class system, and the Chronicles of the Sword mode entirely. Plagued by slow loading times, annoying gameplay overall, and frustrating half-assness all combined together for a dip into the hellhole.

I don't think I'd like them to get rid of it, but its a gimmick in the first place, so they'll probably just rework and tweak the characters like they did for the arcade version of SC III and leave the character creation out completely. tongue.gif
Thats what I expect anyway. Working with next-gen will cost a pretty penny I bet.
