Wild Arms Vth Vanguard Japanese theme song from YouTube (Full song Video Clip from Mizuki Nana):
JUSTICE TO BELIEVE - Mizuki Nana

Not too much of an update, but a few things have been added to the official Wild ARMs 5 site. Not a whole lot. A few more characters and such, then a few movies.

Two new videos:

http://www.jeux-france.com/downloads7196_w...ild-arms-5.html

http://www.jeux-france.com/downloads7196_w...ild-arms-5.html

In the first vid, I didn't hear any sound effect when Dean first hit the monster. But it appeared when he hit him a second time, so I'm glad that wasn't a permanent thing. Almost thought so for a second.

In the second video they show you gameplay.

X is "Jump"
Square is "Sliding" while running. It says "Jumpattack" while jumping.
When he stands still, I have no idea what it's saying.

The gameplay environments look very nice, and it seems you have more freedom in this game in controlling the characters while running around exploring.
The music is good as well. Typical Wild Arms music. Which is always a good thing.
Sigs Minock
meh... the HEX grid system is back. i was hoping they'd atleast expand the field and add more Leyline points. doesn't look like they did much.
i want Nova Shax, Aru Saluto, Stare Roe, Ridgobrite, Chapapanga & Dan Darium... hell, where's Justine, Zephyr, & Raftina?
atleast they got rid of the joint-FP system apparently. (it worked in Skies of Arcadia... not as much in WA4)

as long as the story and characters are better then the crapfest that infested WA4, it should be good.

so, what's his name uses melee weapons? in the first video looked like he was going to use some kind of ARM...

None atm. Although I hope at least XSeed would still be interested in localizing the game, their job on WA4 was nice. *____*

I know, I know double post. But I think this news is worth a new one, according to an article about EGM it states

Well that's pretty much as good as an official confirmation, isn't it?
Good news. I'm looking forward to this game.

I'm looking foward to this as well. And with 4 -- we can also probably expect someone to sing Justice to Believe in english. Like with the japanese song in Wild Arms 4.

I got my copy of Wild ARMS 5 today. I won't be able to play it until tomorrow since I'm starting my job today. I like the art book that came with the game. Not a big fan of the cover of the game case. That's about all I can comment on at the moment.
Crimson Cloud
I got this game a few days ago, played it for a while even though I started playing SMT Nocturne. I just wanted to see if one of my favorite series had improved. I may be judging the last two games too harshly but as a fan of first three WA games I still think that these last two games had gone in completely different direction. Some or most of you may think as improvement but everyone has different taste. This is my impression and thoughts of the WA5 game. May contain small gameplay spoilers.

The first thing that I noticed when I started playing WA5 ( except the first or two second part of music which reminded me of Chrono Cross intro music) is that is similar to WA4 in any possible way, as most of us already know from the trailers and screenshots. I think the game has improved a lot from a 4th and it's rather good overal, but if it was called differently then the ''Wild Arms'' I would look at it completely different way. Comparing to the 4th game, now there are lots of supporting characters, 6 main ones which you can see while not touching the start button. Good graphic, solid voice acting and hex-battles are cute I guess, but the whole WA theme that it had a few games before has totally gone with every game made counting from the 4th. Story? I can't say, didn't finish it yet and I'm already into a few hours and I think the game should be called Wild Arms 5 Quest for Johnny Appleseed. You can figure why. Conversation is sometimes good and sometimes really lame but that is nothing new in these series. The game beginning reminds of the one from WA4 too.

Let me talk about s...err...hex battles. The improvement is now that you can only have three people in the battle, which is good if you ask me cuz it seemed kinda crowded before. Moving does not waste a turn, so now you can move once and do ''something'' in only one turn. That maybe neat but then the whole idea about the hex movement loses it's touch and ends like ''him me and I'll hit you'' battle with little strategy. About the moves that characters can use are similar to the previous one so no need to explain it, but a little more balanced to add at least. The difference is that skills are learned by using mediums now, meaning that every character can have a certain medium equipped that is focused on eather healing, physical attacks or more supportive types. The combo attacks with other ally is back so that puts a good look in a fight.

The area outside town? Yeah it does feel like a Dragon Quest VIII type but a more dungeon like. It maybe only me but with all the canyons around you, it feel like you are in actually really big dungeon. You are probably thinking about the faster transportation vehicles? Hahaha, the lamest excuse as a faster transport will be revealed later in the game and I have no comment on that. I still can't stop laughing when I think about it.
Towns? I haven't seen a worst type of town in all the games I played for a few years. 3-4 houses that you cannot get in, 4-5 people, save point and a shop on a small area does not make a town. And the whole idea of resting in that place is more like short 1-2 minutes break. Western feel and music? I don't think so, but to each his own.
Dungeons. Yeah, with little puzzles and more running in the beginning will get the boring part activated at some gamers. No canceling the battles, there are Sol Nigers (.......) like in WA4, beating the boss will let you turn off the encounters.

There is one in-game cutscene intro after a few hours and that is all there is to it. You can forget the opening intro when you load the game. That was the trademark of the series and they had no reason to let it out.

And now, as a fan of older games what happened to the good music, characters to choose in which order will you play in the beginning, tools in the dungeons, anime intro, crest findings and skills collecting? WHAT HAPPENED TO THE INN? Just looking at the intros of WA 2 game makes me wander why did they change it so much....

The game is good overall but as a WA game I don't like it but I respect all who do. I would love if they return to the roots but thats up to them I guess.
Mr Blue
well the games been out for a couple of weeks and though i kinda far in the game ( ive at least been to all parts of filgaia) just wondering what you think out there. i am enjoying it a lot more than 4. yes 4 was my first ARMS game but even though i was overall a bland game i did throughly enjoy the hex battle system and was overjoyed to see it return in this installment. i like the wild west atmosphere better than the futuistic one of 4 and the charaters and story seem a lot more 'fleshed out', and i really enjoy the exploreing of Filgaia its a lot more fun and interactive than a curser point to the next place, and the undated duegeon exploring and interactive/platforming aspects made me cry alittle (a tear of joy of course). still trying to solve the mystery of Johnny Appleseed, it just keeps me on the edge of my seat, but i guess its better than "war is bad, adults are bad, kids rule!" overall it is a GREAT experiance ranking up there with (but not even and certainly not above) chrono trigger and FF8. so what are your thoughts for those of you who have picked up a copy

and on a side note if your willing to spend a little more you can get the 10 year aniversarry adition of wild arms 5 with a 80 page art book included. so if your willing its worth it... it thing so.

It's the same price, actually.

Very good game overall.

Graphics and sound: Excellent

Only complaint I would have regarding sound would be the voice of Carol. It's quite unbearable in my book, but I did enjoy the rest of the English dub of Wild ARMS 5.

I'm not exactly thrilled using the search feature endlessly to find a chest. What's worse would be you searched a entire section, then have to return once again to look for Puzzle location, because you can't begin looking for them until you speak with Brad. Quite annoyed by that, but glad I have the Mono Wheel that prevent encountering on the World Map. I wish they did away with the search feature on the world map. I have never been a huge fan of that feature and prefer they just place the chest on the map, like Dragon Quest 8 did since DQ8 and WA5 have a huge world map.

9-21-2007 - Completed just about completed the game. Only two cameo outfits and two sealed crystal bosses remain and beating the game. I'll get Knight Blazer outfit once I complete the game. Though, doubt I'll play the game again. First time I did every thing in a Wild ARMS game. I never bother beating Ragu O Ragla in the other four games of the series, but he wasn't that tough in this game. Though, I did the cheap trick and used 100% Orange. So, I shouldn't be bragging much about defeating Ragu O Ragla.
Athrun
I'm playing that game as well, and I'm a bit into the game. I got the monowheel thing to use for worldmap transportation. Good game so far, although the story is what you'd expect from a WA game, but that's ok with me. Plot wise at least. There are some minor things that bugged me like how old man Tony says "the future of the world may depend on it" and Dean doesn't even ask him what he means. Or Gregs father in law thinking he killed his children for no apparent reason. But overal its a typical WA plot. As long as the villain doesnt get owned by a girl in a skirt who can drop a minigun from under it (it's a bit alarming that there is one such girl in this game as well...), then I'll be satisfied.
TwinRoseARM
by how everyone saying...the game is great right? i thinking about renting it but i don't want to rent if not good decent game
Athrun
Well I've played quite a bit of the game and so far I'm lving it. For a Wild Arms game it's definitely a very good one.
I heard from people that many didn't like Wild Arms 4, and since I didn't play it I'm not sure what the main problems were. But from the looks of it people who didn't like WA 4 much seem to like this one better.

It's definitely entertaining. There are a bunch of interesting features in the game. One in particular that I like is all the alternative costumes for the characters. Every character has about 7 or more different outfits you can find in the game. Special armors that changes the characters appearance.

Here are some examples:

Dean:

1.) http://xs219.xs.to/xs219/07382/Dean_Stark_16.JPG
2.) http://xs219.xs.to/xs219/07382/Dean_Stark_17.JPG

Avril:

1.) http://xs219.xs.to/xs219/07382/Avril_Vent_Fleur_20.JPG
2.) http://xs219.xs.to/xs219/07382/Avril_Vent_Fleur_21.JPG
3.) http://xs219.xs.to/xs219/07382/Avril_Vent_Fleur_25.JPG

Rebecca:

1.) http://xs219.xs.to/xs219/07382/Rebecca_Streisand_21.JPG
2.) http://xs219.xs.to/xs219/07382/Rebecca_Streisand_25.JPG

Lots of cameo outfits too, like Jet's costume from WA3, or Knight Blazer from WA2.

Anyway the world map is pretty big and exploration friendly, almost like in Wild Arms 3, but not quite since towns aren't downscaled and minituarised any more. The only thing I don't like is that there's not much to do in towns. Not many houses to enter at least, but there are peopel to talk to at least. The music in the game feels very Wild Arms, and this time the game has voice acting. And some pretty good voice acting as well. Luke from Tales of the Abyss voice actor does the main character in this game.

The badge system is pretty interesting, even though it's basically just your avarage accessory rings like in most rpgs. But some of them can really bring out your characters personal potential if you combine them with the right ones.

Still playing the game, and I'm enjoying it so far,
Here's a trailer from the game if you haven't seen it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRKWUiQpA3k
Eva
I wonder why people are shocked you can't just enter a stranger's house? xd.gif
Crimson Cloud
Yeah the game is good... much better then the 4th anyway. I wonder why they left out inn. Smart mouths shouldn't comment this like '' you don't need an inn, you heal on save points '' because you know what I mean. And besides this game is the only one where I don't feel wild, wild, wild...wild west at all, even if it's only me I don't care.
LagunaWannabe
Yeah I'm bout 20 hours into the game and I'm lovin it so far... There ARE just a couple things that irk me though:

1. The character movements are always repeating. (Dean rubbing his nose [f*cking cokehead], Rebecca throwing her hands in the air and yelling, or putting her hand to her forehead and looking down, Avril putting her hand to her chin), etc etc, it DOES get annoying after a while.

2. The pace of some of the story needed to change. Like in the beginning (i dont think this is a spoiler), when Chuck is about to be hanged and u have to go get the mirror like.. there was NO rush there at all. THere was no timer or anything (which i think woulda been good), and they spend SO much time talking to Greg in the cavern, and then with the Professor it's like this big comedy scene, but at the same time this poor kid is about to get hanged by sunset, and Dean and the others are putzing around.

That's really it though so far. I love the character sso far, LOVE the world map, love the dungeons, music is the best in almost any game ive ever played, and i LOVE the mystery of Johnny Appleseed, the creators did a great job keeping us guessing.
J-5
I'm about 7 hours in and love it. This is the first RPG that's really hooked me in a long time. The battles are fast and fun, the music is classic WA, they brought back a real world map (something I love), and the goofiness of the game so far is great.

Good thing I picked this game up; I was originally going to just dismiss it after finding out it was more like WA4 then the other 3 titles.

I would describe it as "what Wild Arms 4 SHOULD have been" wink.gif.

Yeah I skipped WA4 so I was always optimistic about WA5 after seeing the trailers.
It's pretty damn addictive, yeah. And I played it along with Persona 3, or rather when I had taken a break from P3 near the end of the game, which is another addictive game actually. Far more addictive actually than any rpg I've played. But I managed to finish WA 5 first, and Avril is definitely my favorite Wild Arms character.
Mushroom
Hmm. Haven't played this yet, but apparently its coming to us soon, so I might check it out. I'm still pissed off about WA4 though, so we'll see. I mean, I loved 3. Then 4 seemingly took a step back in every direction. I even think the graphics were worse haha. Everyone seems more positive about this though, so thats a good sign.
Raptorg
i'm european, Belgian in fact, and i'm rather thrilled to play this game, but it's still not released here, in fact the local gamingstore is still selling WA4 as a recent title, which kinda worries me

wikipedia isn't even showing wether it will be released or not, not even an "international - to be announced" tag

worried, worried..

anybody knows anything about the (central)european release date?
Athrun
I have't heard of a European release for WA5. But this day and age it's nott oo hard to import games and play them on your console with a swap disc or something, if you really want to play the game. It's probably even cheaper, given the US weak dollar.
Wein Cruz
I got Wild Arms 5 today (or rather, yesterday), and it's pretty darn good so far. =) I made it to Mirapulse, and I have to find this guy's Hunter's License.

The gameplay is awesome. The HEX battle system is so much fun. I'm already learning to take advantage of healing all my characters on the same HEX, and hitting enemies on the same HEX. Team attacks also help to defeat full HP enemies in late battle. I also like world exploration in this game, because it reminds me of Dragon Quest 8. Searching for specific items is a pain in the a$$, though.

The story's okay, but not especially exciting right now. The beginning of the story was suspiciously similar to Tales of Eternia. I'm kinda interested in what the relation between the humans and Veruni is all about, as well as who Johnny Appleseed is and what Avril's relation is to the Ice Queen he was talking about. It looks like the story has more of a childish tone to it than what I prefer, based on the way some of the characters act. So I'm not sure how I'm going to like that.

Still, I cant wait to make more progress in this game. Because the gameplay has me hooked so far, at least. =)
Wein Cruz
Well, I did quite a bit more today. I completed the Temple of Rejection where Carol temporarily joined my team, and then I found out more about Greg and what happened between him and his father. I'm betting the Golem-armed guy was Kartikeya, that laughing guy that is a part of Volsung's group. I cant wait for a confrontation between them. No doubt it'll be one of the highlights of the story. =)

I'm getting used to taking advantage of the Ley Points on the Hex grid. Battles are becoming quite a bit easier now. I heard there are Sol Nigers on the world map areas, but I haven't been able to find or purify a single one yet. I'll probably check GameFAQs to find out exactly where they are.

WA5's getting a lot better, and I'm really glad I gave the game a chance. I hope Carol rejoins my party soon.
Sigs Minock
the World map Sol Nigers are tough. i don't recommend fighting them until near the end of the game, and a few of them aren't accessible until you get *Asgard, but he's nowhere as cool as Lombardia (no, you don't get to ride Lombardia in WA5)
Wein Cruz
I made quite a bit more progress in Wild Arms 5. Carol rejoined my team and I just completed the Baskar's Temple and got the medicine for Paskel. A lot of the story revelations were really interesting. =) I still don't fully understand the conflict between the Moderates and Radicals among the Veruni. But it was revealed that Avril may very well be the Ice Queen afterall (not that I had much doubt). It makes me wonder just what will happen when Avril finally gets her memory back. I doubt it'll be pretty. =p

The battles have almost skyrocketed in difficulty lately. It gets harder to take advantage of elemental weaknesses because enemies tend to occupy the Ley Points that have the weakness I'm trying to exploit. Not to mention I'm sustaining a lot more damage now. I'm also having a harder time deciding what Medium to give to which character. I have Dean and Greg with Sword Mediums, Avril has the Sky Medium, and Rebecca has the Sea Medium. Carol has the Luck Medium since she's more of a minor support character than a main fighter to begin with. But now I got a Mountain Medium, and I want to give it to Avril, but I don't want her to give up her Blast ability. Exploiting elemental weaknesses is the key to winning battles, and I cant afford to lose that advantage.

The game continues to get better, and its already looking to be the best game I've played this year so far. =)
Wein Cruz
Did a lot in Wild Arms 5. I got Asgard on my team and now I'm back on the regular world map, about to invade the TF System's towers.

It seemed like the story started throwing one big plot twist after another once it got to where Greg was supposed to have his long-awaited showdown with Kartikeya. It already looks like the game is headed for the big conflict with Volsung and his four sentinels. But the story's definitely been exciting so far. I don't know how far I am from the big conclusion, but it doesn't seem like there's too much ahead after this whole TF System thing.

It also looks like a whole lot of exploration and side-questing has opened up at this point. I checked GameFAQs and it looks like there's a lot I can do before I go to the TF System. I've already found most of the treasures available and I've completed quite a few of the Puzzle Boxes. My team is stronger than ever now that I've synthesized a few new badges for them. I just need to make a Violator for Rebecca and Chuck as well as a Sheriff Star for Greg, then my team will be perfect. xDDD

It'll probably be a while before I progress the story anymore, since there's a lot of training and exploration yet to be done.

Didn't take Dean's Double Critical ability into concideration for your perfect team, huh? lol
Both Dean and Rebecca are really good with Punch Glove. Mainly Dean but Rebecca has good use for it as well.
Pretty much all characters are good with Violator though. Mainly Rebecca of course because of her Continous Shot skill. Combined with Punch Glove it's even better.
Getting the Black Pass might be one of the first things you should do if you're aiming for creating more badges and Sherrif Badges.
Wein Cruz
Made a crap load more progress in Wild Arms 5. =)

I solved all 20 Puzzle Boxes on the World Map, and I found 17 of the 18 Neutrino Medals currently available for me to get. The other ones only become available in the secret dungeons. I also did a bunch of other sidequests that opened up at that point.

I also beat two of the four TF System's towers. Fereydoon and Elvis were way more challenging than I thought they'd be. Now all thats left are Kartikeya and Persephone. I don't know what to expect of Rebecca and Persephone's confrontation, but I can't wait for Greg to get some sweet revenge against Kartikeya.

After I beat the TF System, I'll finally be ready to do the Black Market so I can get the rest of the badges I need, and I'll also be able to tackle the secret dungeons. Cant wait! =)
Wein Cruz
I just completed the last two TF System towers and now the central tower has opened up. I think I can get the Black Pass now, so I'm going to look into it. If I can, I'm going to make the rest of the badges my team needs so I can do the remainder of the game's sidequests before I go to fight Volsung. And it looks like there's still a crap load of stuff I can do before I beat the game, so it looks like there's still a whole lot to look forward to.
Athrun
I didn't do the whole Abyss tower, I just went through it and grabbed what I could. Then I spent 20 - 30 minutes trying to find my way back out. But there was one of those Boss crystals inside, and since there was no save point (I think) I didn't want to try my luck with it.
Wein Cruz
Right now, I'm still in preparation to tackle the secret dungeons and hidden bosses all at once. I've been leveling my characters up in the Abyss, then selling those levels to the Black Market so I can buy the badges I need to make Sheriff Stars. So far, I just need to make Sheriff Stars for Rebecca and Chuck, then I can move on to making Violators for my party, which should be easier.

Fortunately, the secret dungeon enemies give me loads of EXP, so I can gain upwards of 10 levels for my whole party in no time. By the time my team's ready, I'll be able to sweep the secret bosses easily. xD
Wein Cruz
Finally started playing WA5 again. I finished making all the necessary badges, so now my team's set to take on the secret dungeons/bosses.

First, I need to get the Duel Sign from the final TF System tower since I didn't go there yet. I beat one of the World Map Sol Niger bosses and it was a piece of cake, so I know I'm ready to finish the rest of the major extras.
Wein Cruz
Finally beat Wild Arms 5, and it was a darn good gaming experience. The story was a bit rushed towards late game, and the villains could've been given a bit more spotlight and direct involvement with the main characters, but it was still really entertaining. The Human/Veruni conflict was well thought out and engaging, although I would've liked to see more events that really delved deeper into the whole thing.

The main characters were all really interesting, and it was a blast to see them interacting during story events. With the exception of maybe Chuck, I found each of them to be memorable characters in their own right. Rebecca annoyed me to death at the beginning of the game, but she quickly grew on me and became my favorite character, next to Avril. Avril's revelation was a huge shock, but it went to show how strong her friendship with Dean and Rebecca really was. Volsung's revelation at the end was sort of expected, but it helped even out his character more, which made him a more memorable and respectable villain.

The music was a solid offering, but the themes that stood out the most were probably Nightburn's themes and Avril/Ice Queen's themes. The graphics were good, but the colors could've been a lot better. It looked a lot duller than most RPGs that use that same overall design, which kinda hurt the presentation, but the world was vast, and the world map design is probably my favorite since Dragon Quest 8, which is a definite plus.

The gameplay was outstanding. The HEX battle system was a blast to play. Exploiting elemental weaknesses was easily the key to winning most battles, although critical hits and combo attacks played an important role during the earlier parts of the gameplay. In the end, I had Dean, Greg, and Chuck equipped with Sword Mediums, I had Avril with the Sky Medium, I had Rebecca equipped with the Luck Medium, and Carol had the Sea Medium. Rebecca was good for stealing rare items from bosses, but toward the end, I didn't use her anymore.

The extras were really addictive, with the exception of creating the necessary badges. It was a very annoying task that kept me from playing the game for almost a month. The Violators were a waste of time, since Blast/Crush spells still did the most damage against bosses. I did all the secret dungeons except the Abyss, and I did most of the Sealed Crystal bosses. I also finished all 20 Puzzle Boxes and found 26 of the Neutrino Medals. The Puzzle Boxes were kinda challenging, but not too difficult. I only really got stuck on 3 or 4 of them, and I only looked to GameFAQs to solve the 20th Puzzle Box. Finding Neutrino Medals was like finding a needle in a haystack, and I actually missed one of the first 18 scattered throughout the game's regular dungeons, which made me give up on the whole thing. All in all, I didn't do all the extras, but most of the ones I did were very enjoyable.

Wild Arms 5 was a great RPG, and in the end, I'm very glad I tried it out. Hopefully one of these days, I'll get to try Wild Arms 4, since the two games have a similar game system. Hopefully WA4 measures up to the 5th one. =)
Flame
By the end of the month I SHOULD have a copy of Wild Arms 5... apparently Amazon now have them in stock. I won't be playing it until my birthday (I'm buying it for my parents to give me on my birthday) but it's good that we've finally got some PAL copies here. We've been messed around enough for it.

Meanwhile I'm playing the original Wild Arms to get me in the mood happy.gif
