So recently as a present and as a small project to waste some money on, I bought my girlfriend an N64; the bare bones of the console, along with a few games: Super Mario 64, Banjo Kazooie, Mario Kart 64 and Diddy Kong Racing. I also purchased the expansion pak for the hell of it.

Anyway, during the N64's heyday I myself was a big Sony fan, and therefore never experienced some of the delights the N64 had to offer. I'm asking for your suggestions of games I should purchase taking into account all aspects : gameplay, graphics, sound and of coruse multiplayer potential. I'm only asking because a) hey its something to discuss and cool.gif I appreciate the fact that in these mdoern day times several classic will undoubtly have been lost in the ey of the mainstream and not all searches will bring me to glory.

As I said, I want reasons, I want to know whats good, I want to know what sucks to prevent me making any mistakes, inform and debate! smile.gif

Get Goldeneye, by Rare, if you can still find a copy of it. It's probably the most well-known FPS on the console, as well as addicting as hell in multiplayer.

The same applies to the original Perfect Dark. Made by the same people, very similar game, just more cool stuff.

Both Legends of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask are pretty good buys. Gaming legends, and pretty fun.

Can't think of more, so I'll stop now.

Aw, what a gentleman for buying a N64 for his girl......such romance is unheard of XD. So anyways, seeing is how I don't own my N64 anymore(because we're now in the modern age) I don't remember alot of my games. What I do remember are good times with Perfect Dark and Conker.

Perfect Dark has got to be one of the greatest FPS for N64. It has really in-depth multiplayer with original weapons like the laptop gun. You really need more than 2 players to fully enjoy the experience, but 2 players stil benefit your enjoyment.

As for Conker: Bad Fur Day, it is my favourite game for the N64. It's about a rampaging squirrel (or chipmunk) with an attitude. It's funny, you'll have a great time with the story mode. The story mode has out of the world comdey in it. Conker's multiplayer is fun as well. I remember this multiplayer mode where I was a raptor, and my brothers were cavemen and they needed to steal my eggs to eat them and I refused to let them take it so I devoured them with my raptor. Such fun.

So just 2 titles, but worthy of your attetion.

The number one game to get is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, prolly the best game ever made...

Well for party games, pick up Super Smash Bros. and any of the Mario Party games, lots of fun multiplayer there

Other games to pick up are Paper Mario, a great rpg with stunning graphics, excellent sound, and extremely fun gameplay and Star Fox 64
Shadow Cloud
Hmm...well, most of the really stand-out god games have already been mentioned like Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Paper Mario, LoZ : MM, LoZ : OoT....Games I recommend would probably begin with Donkey Kong 64, a fun game with some pretty astonishing graphics for a N64 game. Killer Instinct Gold, not as fun as the origina but something to dilly dally with. Megaman 64, not quite as good as the Playstation version but still a good game none the less. Any Quake games that you may but most likely won't come across because it's like old and nobody is old-fashioned like me anymore. The N64 houses many good FPS's and I would expect there still be alot out there like the James Bond 007 : The World is Not Enough. I'll post again if I can think of anymore....

Perfect Dark (better cause you have the expansion pack), Goldeneye 007, Mario Tennis, Conkers Bad Fur Day, Super Smash Bros., and umm, I think thats all I can think of for now. Ohh, there was one game I loved for N64 called Body Harvest. Definetly check that out, I think I was the only person where I lived who knew about that game.. Jet Force Gemini was fun...NBA Jam was a cool-ass basketball game, Star Wars Episode One Racer was freakin' awesome... Vigilante 8 was a cool game that is similar to Twisted Metal. I guess thats all I can think of for now. smile.gif

Guh...a lot of what I was going to suggest has already been, but whatever! xP

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time / Major's Mask
Paper Mario
Goldeneye 007
Perfect Dark
Mischief Makers (If you can find it, I had a hard time getting my hands on a used one. xDD)
Super Smash Bros.
Star Fox 64
Donkey Kong 64
Conker's Bad Fur Day
Banjo Tooie (I never played the game, but you could pick it up since you got her Banjo Kazooie)
Pokemon Stadium (I thought it was fun! =p)
Yoshi's Story
Harvest Moon 64

That's all I can think of, but most of those games are what I had fun playing. Banjo Kazooie and Tooie, I know a friend of mine loved those games to death, but I never wanted to play them. Haha.

Well, the most common and popular picks have already been mentioned i guess i'll only add a couple more games

International Superstar Soccer 64 (or 98, never played 2000 so i dont know if its as good), easily one of the best goddamn futbol/football games ever made, its not liscenced by Fifa but one of the quirky things the 98 version had is that the players have the same names the real players have but just one letter is different (e.g. Ronaldo is Rolnado).

Blast Corps: Fun game where your objective is to keep a truck's path clear by using different vehicles ranging from other trucks to Robots. The catch is that a) the truck you need to aide has a nuclear bomb and if it touches anything, and i do mean anything, even trees, it goes off wreaking everything and cool.gif the truck driver is the most incompetent driver ever and will always stray away from the main road to go stright to a building. This game needs the memory pack.

Turok: Dinosaur Hunter: kickass FPS for the n64, i think it was the first for the system. Some may say the sequel is better but that thing was just overflown with endless levels that took you at least a full night to get by. Basically you are turock, a native american, that gets transported to this place called the Lost Land where there are a fuckload of dinosaurs which you must kill to survive. THis game also needs the memory pack.

I'll think of a couple more games but that should suffice.

Thanks for all these recomendations guys, its been very helpful and I am putting a list of games together from here of what I'd like to purchase. Don't worry about repeating titles, that makes a difference to me if they've been mentioned severl times so keep em coming! Remember if there are any you have in your collection, let me know about the games to steer away from smile.gif

On a sidenote one of the games I did try to purchase initially here for Paper Mario but it seems there are not many copies left kickng about here and so the usual ebay scouts have taken their chance to drive the price up to ridiculous proportions, prices i'm not willing to pay for one game ( so I d/l'ed the rom but hush!) but it saddens me I cannot play it on console which I much prefer
