So I have finaly taken the plunge into PC mmorpg. And it has taken the form of WOW. So far I enjoy the game. I have been reluctant to start any of these games, because I cannot justify paying for a game and then paying to play the game. I am still just playing the free trial and am trying to think of a reason to buy and pay to play the game. So what do ya'll think? I like the game and all but...pay to play? I still just don't know.
The Evil Dead
I honestly don't think any game is worth a monthly fee... But if you can afford it and you like the game, then I guess whatever.

Personally if I were you I'd get Guild Wars. There's no monthly fee and it's pretty much like WoW, even the interface and the skill bar are the exact same due to the fact that Flagship did some work on WoW before they left blizzard ( I believe they were known as Blizzard North at that time. )

It's worth buying, plus the new expansion adds hours and hours to the game... I highly recommend it over WoW.

I personally have been played wow for a very long time. The game is a lot of fun. I had a ton of fun leveling my rogue to 60, gearing said rogue and owning with said rogue in pvp.

I am currently taking a break, because I want to enjoy my summer outside. However, the game is a lot of fun. I definately suggest it.

Why not come over to Hellscream and work on a horde alt. By the time I get back we can start leveling together!

Cool thanks! I see both of your sides....i'm still uncertain though. I'm leaning toward getting WOW. I have a chance to get it for my birthday. So I think I might go that route. I am getting rather hooked on the game.
swervable
Well I went with the WOW. If'n ya'll are thinking of looking for me, i'm on the Azjoul'nereb (I think that's how it'd spelled) server. My charactor name is Bugeye, i'm a troll Hunter.
The Evil Dead
I got World of Warcraft myself, but honestly it's really boring me at this point. I'm having a hard time ever finding anyone to party with, and there just doesn't seem to be that many people on my " medium " populated server.

So I figured I'd go check out the " high " populated servers and pretty much the same thing. I ran through a few areas ( Alliance side ) Stormwind city, Ironforge, etc... And while there were people there there's NEVER anyone out questing and doing the same things I am. It's kinda ridiculous that I'm paying 15 bucks a month to play by myself.

My good friend IRL INSISTS that there's more people once you get to higher levels, and there ##### better be because I don't want to have to start over on one of the more well known " high " populated servers. I was considering just starting over but I've already put in god knows how many hours just to get to level 16 and I'm not just going to give it up.

well like the great jermey said aka teh pwnerer
"and then theres MMO's. all they are there for is to take ur time and ur money"
so yea i agree with hating to pay a monthly fee.

get this. my friend got FFXI for xbox 360. and he has to pay for LIVE PLUS he has to pay for FFXI online
isnt that stupid? i mean hes already paying to play games on live. now he has to pay an entirely different fee to play this game on live

anyways tho. do what u must. i hear WOW is amazing
i hear good things from guild wars too.
but if u can afford the montly payments and dont mind them that much u should go with WOW

I'm thinking about getting WoW, or even Guild Wars...I'll probably start off with Guild Wars because it has no monthly fee like "The Evil Dead" have said. Then later when Im done with Guild Wars, I'll get WoW. Im gonna hate paying the monthly fee! but oh well.
The Evil Dead
I'm enjoying a WoW a bit more now that I have 3 IRL friends playing on the same server as me and I'm in a decent guild... But Guild Wars is still a very solid choice, and I still plan to play it occassionally. I think the Guild Wars interface and targeting system is far better. You can call targets that everyone can attack at the same time, follow enemies around when you attack without having to move your char around, blips on your radar showing you all enemies on the map and where your next quest is... And a hell of an awesome skill and battle system.

I think that Guild Wars has more character depth and with the numerous different builds you can make ( Check out Guild Wiki for an example of what you can do ) and the skills BUT WoW is definitely a much larger game and will probably last in the long run... But still, you can't go wrong with GW at all.

Thanks for briefing me/us on both games Evil Dead. Hopefully we'll battle on either games.

You don't have to pay for both. Tell him to get silver, its free. If he has to have gold for other games (which i doubt- he's a ffxi player) then hes not paying for xbox live to play ff, hes paying for it for his other games. btw, I play ffxi on xbox360 and its a bad idea, you have to use the disc to play it so if your disc fries (which is really really possible) you need to go get another disc. Plus if you are a crafter and need to mule your goods overnight, its hard to because the xbox360 overheats. (these are my experiences with the 360. ) AS far as consoles for this game PS2 owns
I've been wanting to check out guild wars, but people keep telling me it is PVP-based and I dont care so much for that. PSU is coming out soon, so I will probably just try that out. My days with FFXI are dying quickly (See? I'm doing something else hahaha) Now how to go about getting some of this money back >.< 98 alch 70 monk and 90 cook do you need it lol >.<

Oh, and my comp cant handle WoW either, I would play that because I have read and heard that it is good for more casual gamers, but after reading about your probs leveling, I'm not so sure.
The Evil Dead
lol your comp can't handle WoW? It has like a 800 mhz requirement. That's amazing Quitsy. You won't be able to play GW if you can't play WoW either.

I've been playing WoW for just about a month now... I've logged in roughly 6 days of playing time according to a mod I have installed ( the mods you can get for the user interface in WoW are slick ) and I'm currently at level 35. The game is still going well, especially since I moved to another server with my friend and currently play with 4 other IRL friends.

I'm enjoying it moreso than before, and hopefully my Pally will be kicking some more ass soon. Also it helps that my friend sells the currency we sell in Maple Story to a friend of his who supplies WoW gold... I just got 250 gold and will be getting another 500 in the next couple days... FOR FREE.

It's pretty groovy... After I hit 60 and go through the game a bit more I'm gonna start out with a warrior... Another alliance side one, probably going to be night elf or I may possibly create a night elf rogue. After that I'm going to be moving on to the Horde side and go with the undead.

If you can afford the fee the game is worth it. I'm a total hypocrite, but the game is worth it.
deathadder45
dont give in! WoW is pricey! gotta hate those games with monthly fees! huh.gif
Dr Whippy
As i'm ever so slowly maturing i'm gradually coming to realise that paying for games is a bit of a waste of hard earned cash. Monthly ones even worse.

That said, i played WoW for a good.....6 months at least. FINALLY got over it and havent played it for a while. Really it comes down to wether or not you really enjoy the game and wether or not you can afford it without cutting off more important things (like what? i dunno, social life, sporting clubs or something? food!?).

If you like it, *shrug* try it out for a while longer till you get sick of it. If not, find something else to do with ur time lol. Personally, yea i think it's a fantastic game, if not too good cus if ur like me you may get sucked into the whole mmporg thing and have ur social life suffer (oy, suck a mistake >_<)
Zanian
Well I've played both for a very long time (Guild Wars the longest), and I still prefer WoW, even tho it has monthly payments. (I work alot, hence I make alot of money, so the monthly payment is only like....1/20 of my montly salary, so that might be one of the reasons I'm ok with it)
I would however, suggest GW to those that actually has a social life tongue.gif
If you are a hardcore-gamer (which I unfourtunly am), you can complete both factions, and get a handfull of lvl 20s (highest lvl), in a matter of weeks (or week).
In WoW however, there is an almost infinite amount of quests (I admit, there's also a ton of quests in GW), and getting to lvl 60 takes....a while, to say the least.

I actually like my first month of GW better than my first month of WoW, but now that I've bought all the best stuff in GW, maxed out the lvls in my 6 chars... and finished both factions with most of them... there's not much left to do (besides pvp, which I've grown tired doing).
Anyways! I recently started a twink rogue in WoW (lvl 19), and I'm prolly gonna have alot of fun for a long time, owning all those annoying ally-rogue-twinks ninja.gif

So, my conclusion (even tho u've already picked WoW, lol), is that if your looking for a long-lasting game, go with WoW, if not, GW is the second best online game out there (imo)
And if you don't like either of those games, check out cheap-ish games such as RYL, KAL, MU, or even CO (conquer online=100%free)

Well, it plays. Its just the lag is sooo bad. Soo bad that i never even got a chance to play. My bf uninstalled it with the quickness because he couldnt get off some boat.
The Evil Dead
Well that sucks that your computer can't handle it, I'm very surprised because even my good friends 1ghz machine with 256 ram can handle it... Although he does have a video card that's way beyond his craptacular machine, and that may be why he's able to get the game running. He says it chugs when he gets to major cities, but that's about it.

It's a shame too because I'm totally immersed in the game... Maybe it's because I can get free gold and buy the best items in the game for my level, or because of the seemingly endless questing... I've logged a little over 8 days of play time into the game ( Who knows how many hours that is ).

Either way this bastard game is taking my attention away from my PS2 library... And considering I have like 20 some RPG's to play and catch up on, that's not a good thing. I don't think I'll ever finish them. =/
swervable
Ok so hear I am 4 months and 3 severs later and I love this game. I am currently playing on a PVP server called Darkspear. I'm alliance....yeah I know eeewww. But I like my Dwarf Warrior. I have a work buddy whose guild I joined. My Dwarf is lvl 34 and rank 3 nearly 4. I like a pvp server more than the others, because you always have to be on you toes in a contested tarritory. And the Battle Grounds are loads of fun. Except that the alliance nearly always loose WSG and AB. But AV I guess Alliance rules.

So if y'all are ever wanting to try a PVP server go to darkspear and look up Ironnail. That's me. My guild is Bound for Glory. But be warned if you don't like alliance then we might not play together. The other server I am on is Azjol-Nerub. I play a troll hunter and a taurn druid. On tha server i'm just not having as much fun as I am on the PVP one. That's a PvE server. Well ummm...See you in the game.
Lifewish
i think its a good game if you put enough time into it and its worth it if you do the same. Like i have put in 1000 hours plus since january. So I feel i have gotten my 15 bucks a month worth and then some. If you cant put a lot of hours into it then its not worth the monthly fee.
Jenova's Witness
I played WoW for 2 years, but i just decided to take a break til the expansion is released. I had so much fun on it, but now i find that i *may* have spent too much time on it.... ever since i stopped playing my grades jumped from low b/high c to high a's... either my courses got easier or i spent way too much time here. Oh well, i'll find out when i get back into it later :-p Look for me on Smoulderthorn as Arronshae, level 60 horde shaman if you will, or Eldarea, level 60 hunter on kel'thuzad alliance side. (ps: Horde rock. discuss.)
Ragnarok
I still play from time to time.

If your looking for someone to play with I have a level 28 Undead Warrior on the server Draka. I also have a few alt's, but the only one you'll probably find me on is my level 21 Tauren Hunter on the server Lightninghoof. (Or Thunderhoof, I can never remember which)
