The Hero of Time
QUOTE
Voice actress Tara Platt is to do Jill Valentine in the upcoming RE:Wii game. She confirmed to us that the game will feature zombies (or at the least, zombie-like enemies) and plant creatures, as well as a wide array of weaponry. The fact that Ms. Platt was aware of the weapons in the game infers that she is voicing a playable character and is not just doing a cameo. Jill being the main character increases the likelihood of seeing Carlos or Barry turn up as well.

Aside from Resi 4 and, to a lesser extent, Code Veronica, I've never been a huge fan of the Resident Evil series.

However, I know there are some fans loitering around here, so though I'd post it since I didnt see a topic for it. ( I didn't look too hard though =P )

Also here we have some speculation:

QUOTE
Read this from a games magazine in HK today - its called Biohazard : Umbrella Corp Chronicles and fills in the story on Umbrella before and leading to BH4. Gameplay is a mix between using the Wiimote as a light gun and BH4 style elements e.g. action buttons pressing X for a dramatic scene. It features scenarios from BH1 (museum), BH2 (police station), BH3 (raccoon city), BHCV and BH4 (village) and ties in the gaps especially BHCV and BH4. Characters include Chris/Claire, Leon / Ada, Jill / Carlos, Rebecca, Hunk and Wesker . There are two gameplay modes - scenario mode and arcade mode. Proper announcement to be made by Capcom at TGS

As long as its not a Survivor game I'm sold. (though that "arcade" comment has me thinking otherwise).

RE4 engine plz. wink.gif

Sounds good IMO

but since it is for Nintendo (and I only own a PS2 and PSOne) and I am not courageous enough to play it anyway I will unfortunately never see this game cry.gif

Can't be RE without the survival theme. Whats wrong with it anyway, I thought you liked RE 4 and CV?
Lightgun type of aiming would make things interetsing. You'll probably have to concentrate more on aiming for specific bodyparts than before.

No Hicks, focus, he means he doesnt want it to be a Survivor like game which were these couple games based on lightgun gameplay sort of like House of the Dead but they sucked and one of them didnt actually had Light Gun Support for the Western release.

I dont see it beign that damn hard to use the RE 4 gameplay with the wiimote, even if a survivor esque scheme would be pretty much perfect with the wiizapper preripherial, the way RE 4 played was just too damn nice. However since they'll probably keep it for RE 5, this side game might just be a light gun affair.

They should have gone with Claire BTW, I am just a bit tired of damn Jill. Carlos is welcomed though, he is one of my favourite characters.
The Hero of Time
Bingo, I meant the Resident Evil light gun games. I wasn't 100% sure they was called Survivor, but thankfully Raz has come to my rescue. wub.gif

Those games were kinda lame. The "Arcade mode" as mentioned in the blurb makes me think of light gun type gameplay, but in reality it couldbe anything.

TGS should shed some more light, I hope. Capcom have a really strong showing. blink.gif

I'm actually lookin' forward to this a lot. =) I read this new a while back... and it's good to know it's coming. Playing as Jill (yet) again is somethin' I would love to do again. I like Claire, but she does'nt give off the "wow, it's Jill vibe."

Urghh, I suppose. But you need not worry. This and the other ones are for next Gen consoles. =P
I know you're a fan like I. So we'll have to cash out and purchase a PS3/Xbox 360 soon.

Like most I'm hopin' the game isn't like RE: Survival. While that was a good game in it's own way, I would like something new. Resident Evil: Dead Aim wasn't so bad. So I won't leave that out either.

Either way, it's Capcom here... can't predict what they'll do next.
Also, if not TGS.. the event that coming up on the 14th of this month..
Sadistic Angel
Bleh. Claire. She got 2 games and Jill got 2 games. CVX was the worst in the seires by far and RE2 only gets any points for Mr. X and Birkin. The protagonists are utterly lame as are the ones iN CVX. I'm a biker chick who can use a grenade launcher and a rookie cop who lives while veteran S.T.A.R.S. members die...or CVX with biker chick who can now infiltrate secret facilities and dude who is hopelessly in love with her but gets turned into a beasty. Didn't see that coming. Oh and uber-Wesker is the dumbest character in the history of games.

I'm glad Jill is back.

Oh yeah, Dead Aim. I forgot about that game. I played it and it was so so. Never finished it completely though, but now that you all mention it, RE Wii will probably be a shooter game similar to these in some ways.

Lmao! What?!
You dislike Wesker? =o
How? He is so awesome man. Seriously, though. I understand what you mean. I'm still waiting for Capcom to bring back Eliza or whatever the heck her name was in Resident Evil 1.2 or whatever you wanna call it.
Anyhow, you didn't like VC? Or CVX? I dunno I liked them a lot. While that one wasn't on par with my beloved RE3 it was still a decent RE. And it was like one of the main reasons to own a DC back in the day..
On Leon; I like how he matured a lot in RE4. I mean there was a certain cool-ness about him. I hope they keep that type of style up. RE5 *seems* to be doing that..

Looks good, right? Back then. Haha.

I think you are forgetting how Jill, the master of unlocking, in her early 20s is already ex-navy seals or ex-marine. I am not saying that this justifies Claire totally beign better than a hundred spies, soldiers and mercenaries by just fighting zombies, its just that Resident Evil's heroes abilities are as far from logic and common sense as an iceberg is from Jupiter.

Its not Silent Hill where the main characters can barely hold a gun and then they get thrown in hell. Resident Evil throws you in hell with a bazooka and uber fighting and shooting expertise, its like Racoon City makes you either turn into a zombie or a one man/woman army.

Hell look at Wesker, somehow the guy is always somewhere he shouldnt be able to be at doing something he is not supposed to be able to do. On a faq about the games' story i once read the guy said that if you wonder how the hell some impossible thing happenes, it was probably somehow Wesker's doing. The guy is like god, onmipresent.

Yeah i think it was Eliza and it was RE 1.5. It should be fun to see how she would have been. The game did looked too claustophobic, not that RE 2 was a free environment rich game but it would seem like a step back.

On recurring characters, it would be fun to see if Sherry Birkin became an international super soldier like Claire and Jill after RE 2.

As a side note, my favourite Resident Evil old school style (its just that RE4 owns really hard but its not a traditional RE game so i am exploiting a loophole here) is still Nemesis, even if it has Jill, I dont know why but the game just won me quite possibly mainly due to Nikolai who is probably the best villain after Wesker, or maybe he is better than Wesker because he is not a mutated evil witch guy.
Sadistic Angel
Nikolai is 10x the villain Wesker is. And so is Birkin. And Irons. And everyoen short of Alfred.
FallenKnight
great new well lets just hope that it's better than re4 and re4 was fun so it's going to be hard to beat but for the wii nice i hope it is scary

Biohazard: Umbrella Chronicles revealed
Wednesday 13-Sep-2006 12:10 PM Events leading to Resi 4 to be revealed? Well, so say reports - and more besides

Capcom somewhat inadvertently has unveiled a new Resi title, Biohazard: Umbrella Chronicles in Japan, according to reports from Japanese games bible Famitsu (Biohazard is the Japanese name of the series for those of you not in the know).

Details on the game are currently sketchy, but it's being suggested that Umbrella Chronicles covers Umbrella's story/operations prior to, and leading up to, Resident Evil 4 and that it additionally fills in plot blanks between other existing Resi titles.

In connection with this, there's talk of locations from previous games in the survival horror series being included, and with Producer Masachika Kawata who was responsible for Res Evil 4 and Onimusha in the frame for dev duties, it might well be the Res Wii-ville we're salivating for - or something else entirely.

How on the money these details are, we can't say, but it's reckoned Capcom will fully unveil Resident Evil on Wii at the Tokyo Game Show later this month. Whether Biohazard: Umbrella Chronicles is one and the same or an entirely different Biohazard covert op, well, there's not long to wait and see.

Seems like RE Wiivil is based on Umbrella's actions that lead to their fall just before RE 4. What this means to me is that we just bcasically dont know wtf to expect but my first guess is about characters, i.e. this could mean not beign limited to a couple but actually take the role of all the RE heroes (and possibly villains?) or at least a big chunk of them since we will be playing in those gaps between games where something always happens in the vein of "Chris and Barry infiltraded Umbrella's lab in Singapore at the same time Carlos went missing in Africa and I finally bought myself a nice little Sugar Babies collection before fighting Super Wesker"

EXPECULATE!!!!!!!!!!!
Mr. Wonderful
Interesting I hope this is also ported to the PS3, becasue I don't like the Wii.

The PS3 has the overall games appealingness to me. Whereas the Wii doesn't.
Razael
Technically, neither of them have as they havent been released and honestly comparing both launch titles roster they are pretty balanced but i guess to each its own.

I dont think RE wii is going to appear on the ps3. Capcom has announced Resident Evil 5 for the ps3 whereas this game is apparently wii exslusive and its about using the wiimote. Then again nothing is written in stone, RE 4 was a GC exlusive and then it was on the ps2, and we have seen quite a bit of Xbox 360 exlusives being announced for ps3 now like Saint's Row or viceversa like Assasins Creed.
Mr. Wonderful
Yes, but the chances for it being on the PS3 increased thanks to Resident evil 1-3 were on the original Playstation 1.

But yeah Resident Evil 5 was supposed to be for PS3, Capcom tends to be unpredictable. So anything is possible.

Agreed. That and people gotta think how each title will play. =P Like you said though. It will be exclusive. But for how long? If there *is* a how long..

More info!!!

Biohazard Wii indepth
Extensive information on the gameplay and content of RE:Wii has surfaced.

-The game consists of 4 "chapters", RE1's mansion, RE2's RPD, RE3's city areas and RE4's village (plus surrounding areas).
-Each chapter has 2 characters to choose from. RE1 has Jill and Chris, RE2 has Leon and Claire, RE3 has Jill and Carlos and RE4 has Leon and Ada.
-There are several characters that can be unlocked by playing through the game: Rebecca Chambers, Hunk and Albert Wesker.
-The gameplay of all chapters is designed around RE4's. Press the B trigger on the wiimote to go into over-the-shoulder view, aim with the pointer and press A to fire.
-The game will have QTEs, but rather than push buttons you have to make motions with the wiimote in order to get through them.
-All characters will have mêlée attacks, just like RE4.
-To encourage replayablility, each character has strengths and weaknesses, similar to how in RE4:Mercenaries Ada had the least health, Krauser was the slowest, etc.
-Just like in RE4:Mercenaries each character has a unique set of weapons. What's more players can only carry 2 weapons at any one time. Chris gets a pistol and shotgun whilst Jill gets a pistol and grenade launcher.
-You will be able to find several new weapons during each stage. For example, RE1 will have Richard's shotgun, RE2 will have the Desert Eagle, RE4 will have the Chicago Typewriter. There will also be new weapons like Krauser's anti-personnel robots.
-Similar to Devil May Cry 3, after each chapter you can save your data and any new weapons picked up will be available for use in Arcade Mode.
-Arcade Mode is like a giant Mercenaries minigame, where you pick a character and stage and blast through it. Building on the resounding success of Mercenaries seen when RE4 was released.
-Scenario mode will feature a large number of ingame cutscenes.
-New content not in the games that the chapters were based on will be added. The primary goal of this will be to link RE4 and Umbrella's status in it more closely with the rest of the series.
-Ammo conservation will play a part in the gameplay, so it's not just constant action like RE4.
-Trailer coming at TGS.

The only thing I didnt like about your opdate Val is the whole less ammo thing. For a classic RE game this was a fun challenge to go through, annoying as hell but it made you come up with strategies and ways to avoid dangers.

On RE the ammo was incredibly abundant, and i liked that because the thrill of shooting was simply amazing, now we are back to "I would so like to blow this jerk's head with my Magnum but cant, rain check bitch" which is annoying.

Also, seems like my prediction came true, you get to use all of the heroes from the main RE games. Its a surprise they didnt include Code Veronica surrounding storyline since a lot of crap happened before that game which we know little about.

This game looks promising, just with this small but of info I already think of the game as a must have, blame me on me being a RE fanboy, me wanting to see Racoon in next gen graphics, me having an e-crush on Claire Redfield or loving the over the shoulder look from RE4. This goes in my list and now i have something to stay tuned to TGS.

Oh and thanks Val, its good to have you back posting news.
The Hero of Time
Sounds hot.

I saw a lil bit of footage for this but cant remember where. =x gamevideos maybe?

It will be cool playing through RE1 - 3 locals without those dodgy pre rendered backgrounds. I might actually enjoy it. =D

Resident Evil 5 IS for PS3, and 360. This game isn't Resident Evil 5, it's called Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles or soemthing. biggrin.gif
The Hero of Time
Some screens have surfaced ohmy.gif

That's hot if it's ingame; its hard to tell...It might be pre rendered background like the old RE games. After RE4 though, and now RE5, I dont think they'd go back to that? Then again, fancy filters and shaders can make 3d seem more detailed than it actually is...Hmmm.

Oh yeah, it appears to be first person, so that would lend more towards 3d enviroment, ne? Or I guess, some areas are 3D, some pre-rendered..thoughts?
Razael
I think they are mainly promocional, until we get some gameplay vids and pics i wont take it as a concrete showing of the game.

I dont think they'll use pre-rendered graphics. RE 4 didnt and that was on the GC, besides as it seems to have plenty of action in it, pre-rendered graphics wouldnt go with that.

Well, Capcom is said to show more of this at TGS. A trailer or something. =P
It's about two weeks away. So it gives us some good to speculate about..
As to how the characters are going about.. Jill.. Leon so on.. I think they'll re-tell the story in someway. And add scenes we haven't seen while each character is doing what..
