This game came out of nowhere, and I saw some scans of it a few days ago, but I just checked out a trailer of the game, and I'm very impressed. It has a very original and interesting battle system where you can interact with the enemies and your friends in different ways. You can knock the enemy over with your shield, or sneak up on them from behind and disarm them so that your partner can take them out. New ideas are always welcomed in rpgs.
The game looks absolutely amazing.

Check out the trailer here:

The suit at the end is the best: Lord of the Rings meets Gundam.
I'm hoping to see more of this game in the coming months; the battle system looks very natural, a combination of real time and turn based action.
I wouldnt expect this game to come out untill at least xmas 2007, but from what i've seen so far it looks like it could be worth the wait, and finally another reason to buy a PS3.

Personally I'm kinda getting sick of all the new ideas being thrown into most RPG's these days. PS2 RPG's are great and all, but all of them try to be so quirky with the battle system and other things that it kinda throws me off from the game.
This game does look visually impressive at least... Can't wait to actually see it in action personally. Is it coming out in america?

As far as I can tell that hasnt been confirmed, but since other Level 5 games have come to the US, such as Dark Cloud and [soon?] Rogue Galaxy, I don't see why not.
As for the gameplay, it actually looks like a generational leap in RPGs, not a quirky take on a the "typical" mechanics. But, obviously the video only shows what they want you to see.

Agree with you here. I'm not one of those who looks for quirks to spice up the original battle systems, because I can keep on playing them for a long time to come. But because I know that there are a lot of fun and original ideas out there that haven't been used yet, when I see one that looks as good as this, I definitely want to play it.
So this is from Level 5? I should have expected that, since the last time an rpg like this "came out of nowhere", it was Rogue Galaxy.
I hope it plays as good as it looks like it does.

Well Sony is highly known to get most of the RPG's from neversoft, and sqaure-enix, and others I'm not currently aware about. But Sony has almost complete dominance in RPG's. RPG's being a popular concept will really immersify the PS3's sales.
As for this game. It looks OK, but I don't trust, and I'm going to stick with FF XIII and FFXIII versus. They both look sexily appealing. Plus it's a FF game.

I'm not sure I follow. The only difference between an rpg that comes "out of the blue" so to say, and one that doesn't, is that the others are usually revealed very early in development, when no gameplay videos are available.

Please, rpgs that come "out of the blue" are sometimes more enjoyeable because you dont see them coming. Its far easier to be disapointed by a well known and established series than by a new RPG.
And this game looks pretty damn good, its an interesting battle system although I hope that whole Battle Preparation crap is just something like say, healing or making sure your equipped items are in order rather than something you have to do all the time before a battle (the chick does say to get ready). Then again, before fighting the boss he doesnt do anything so maybe that was just to fight the soldiers.
The cooperative element is probably what i liked the most of the trailer, reminds me of Streets Of Rage (or maybe thats just because i am playing SoR right now, meh).
For a game early in development and beign first generation PS3 it looks pretty damn good without being fake and It makes me almost fear what ps3 games will look like in 2 or 3 years.

It could be beacuse this looks like it's very early in the game. (The characters are around Level 3.)
Usually in rpg's they tend to "tutor you" early on, and tell you what to do before and during a battle, so that may be why she reminded him to prepare for the battle.

I thought about that option but it doesnt look like anything is guiding the gamer, or maybe because I dont understand japanese.

Sep 23 2006, 03:49 PM
Yeah there was no tutorial type guiding that I could tell. But I think Yulie only mentioned to prepare for battle because it was the natural thing to say. He probably brought up the menu himself. But the developers may have had her say those words to remind new players to equip and setup properly.

Yeah, it seems like a very active oriented RPG so they just made it to seem more responsive on the rest of the "cast", give a sense of fellowship and whatnot.
One thing, I hope the guys that did the englisg localization for DQVIII do this game also when and if it comes to western shores. I cant play DQVIII for ##### as it bores the hell out of me but the english accents were nice and on this game they would certainly fit.

This is some random PS3 title I found while wandering Google. Never heard of it before, but it looks pretty interesting. It's apparently an RPG by a group called Level-5, with a battle system that seems similar to Final Fantasy XII's in some ways (such as the visible encounters). I haven't read up on it much yet, so I'll just provide some links (and two images) for anyone who's interested in checking it out.

Looks like a promising RPG for the PS3, yet another reason why I need to get a PS3 before the end of the year. The gameplay looks very interesting, I wonder how the battle system works out. The graphics are just as what you expect on a next-gen console, and i sure hope they keep the Japanese dialogue if the english voices suck.

Personally, one of the big things that stood out to me when I was watching the trailer was the flow of battles, and the things you seem to be allowed to do in them. It seems as if the battles flow in damn-near realtime, yet it seems to be turn-based. One of the things I found most shocking (though in a good way) was the kind of support that can be given to other chaaracters, like when Lenard physically grabbed one of the knights' from behind and restrained him while Yulie delivered a finishing blow to the knight.
I'm looking forward to some epic battles from this game (if I ever play it, or even get to watch someone else do so), with such huge monsters in some parts. Some are said to be over 2,000 meters tall.

QUOTE (Wikipedia)
While little is known about the title, Level-5 has revealed they are placing an emphasis on scale within the game world. According to a Famitsu article, many enemies are extremely large in size (some standing over 2,000 meters tall), resulting in battles with the player similar in style to Sony Computer Entertainment's PlayStation 2 title, Shadow of the Colossus. In one piece of concept artwork, a massive turtle-like creature is depicted carrying an entire city on its back.

Well there is some new info about WKS and some new screens
http://ps3.qj.net/White-Knight-Story-tower...pg/49/aid/97790 Also according to RPGFan Famitsu desribes the battle system as being similar to Rogue Galaxy with the exception of the White Knight transformation, which is a good thing but if that's true then maybe the battle system won't be the new and fresh battle system everyone has been expecting, it doesn't bother me because I like Rogue Galaxy's battle system so either way it still looks very promising.

Well the game still hasn't been demonstrated playable from what I understand so perhaps the portion of the new trailer they saw showed more Rogue Galaxy-ish fighting. The part where the older knight does some Fire combo special does look a bit like Rogue Galaxy after all, but the rest is much like Chalryn described. It looks like almost real time smoothly flowing with extremely detailed physical interaction. I hope it turns out to be even close to what most of us expect it to be.
On another note, the new character creation tool looks interesting. Seems like you upload a picture of yourself or someone else and the game will recreate it in the game.

Well apparently Famitsu saw it in (playable)action on the trailer at the Playstation Premiere event, that's why they said it plays a bit Rogue Galaxy but we the public will be seeing an actual playable demo of the game at September's Tokyo Game Show so we'll know for sure by then. I agree completely about the character customisation it looks incredible.

Wow, that Turtle/Castle thing looks pretty big. I wonder if it's a boss. I read that the small humans will still battle in the surrounding area even while you transform into the White Knight (giant). I wonder if you'll be able to affect your surroundings while in that mode, such as Jehuty in Zone of the Enders damaging buildings and civilians if you're not careful. I think it would be cool if you some times had to transform in order to protect a town and it's townspeople from being under attack.

There's a new video available for download in the Playstation store in Asia (and on ign), and it's a beauty to watch. It doesn't show any actual gameplay but rather, CG scenes. The graphics is amazing, and the scenes are so wonderful. It gives off a very strong FF9 vibes (moving big objects, check, normal looking main char, check, romance with princess, check, destruction in cities, check, long silver haired villain, check), and there are some insanely 'wow' monsters/creatures. The princess is really cute, and so is that pink-haired girl with the main character. And the song is so nice.
I want to try that game out so much. Coupled with the interesting battle system and all.

But a tease on the official websites at Sony Japan and Level-5 tells us that's all about to change: "The days of wakening are coming soon."
