Just watched the first episode the other day. Very interesting anime. I never read the manga though, but I'll be following this anime from now on, now that Air Gear is over.

For those who never heard of Death Note before, it's about a guy named Light who finds a notebook with instructions that say that any name of a person he puts down in the notebook will die. The notebook originally belonged to a death god who got bored and wanted to see what humans would do with it. Light quickly becomes obsessed with the idea of cleansing the world from all the bad people in it.

For those who never heard of Death Note before

laugh.gif

Anyways, I watched the first episode when it was released. Interesting stuff, I've never seen such frantic writing! I never read the manga either, but it looked interesting. I was going to, but then the anime was announced!
I'll see where it takes me. =p
tat_the_game_freak
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!! I have to say that I love the manga and the first episode of Death Note left me with the same feeling as when I finished the first volume. Can't wait until the next episode comes out!
Seluna
Woah, it has an anime? I think I heard of the news and forgot all about it. Most likely I'll wait until the plot fades in my mind and to hear if it matches up to the manga before I check it out. But the screenie looks great, so yeah, high chance I'll eventually check it out.
Alazuli
Since when was there an anime? o.O; Boy, I'm behind on the news.

I checked out a few chapters of the manga at one point, but it was all pretty casual reading since I had other mangas, animes, and books to finish up at the time. I was planning on picking it back up, but heck! Now that there's an anime, I'll just check that out first. XD

It was pretty interesting, so I can't wait to pick this up. The screencaps look nice!
Apple
I read the manga series. (secondhalfsuckedstinkyass) I can't say I can handle the anime since I think the manga is enough for me to handle. Though I've heard about this since July, crrzzzyyyy Death Note fans were screaming it everywhere at AnimeExpo.

The animation looks nice though. And I might just steal some caps for personal purposes hahaha.
Bloo
I heard that they are now making the 7th episode =| The plot of the manga isn't very interesting after L died and the introduction to M & N (Marrow and near) Well Maybe there is a plot change, Since in the movie, L didn't die. Sad. But i think this anime is worth a try, but i won't put much high hopes on it.

Bloo...
Seluna
No! Bloo, I'm spoiled I'm spoiled! Blacken your spoilers, will ya? Some of us don't want to know things in advance. ^^;

But true though, I didn't like the manga as much after it moved into the M & N arc. But the last volume got so very exciting, lol. It's kinda sad though, to see Light so... pathetic and desperate at the end.
Athrun
Yeah this is just an anime discussion thread Bloo. If you want to talk about the manga you'll have to use spoiler tags or black words out for new fans of the series to be able to enjoy the anime.
Good thing I already knew what you had typed, but it seems Seluna didn't so try to think about that next time?
Andrico
Anime, huh? So let me get this straight; Anime and manga is available in the US with English subs, yet the film is only available in Singapore with subs? Not fair. I probably won't watch the anime, though. I'm more of a manga dude, and the last anime based on manga I watched (Gunslinger Girl) was really disapointing. Maybe I'll check it out if they put it on Youtube, though.
Bloo
I'm So Sorry!!! =o... I thought Most of the people know about that. My Apologies Seluna-Chan. My Apologies.

Btw, you can watch the anime by ---> The 1st 3 episodes of the anime is avaliable for DLing(I know its illegal) But the anime won't be on sale any sooner, there are some website which were registered to downloading the anime, so i think it should be safe, Remember to read the terms and condition for downloading, especially the segment about anime liscense. Print it if possible.

Or YouTube should be avaliable but i won't suggest, since Traffic will crash, so Loading time of the anime sukks.

This is just pure news. I'm so sorry again Hiku-Chan Seluna-Chan.

I apologise again.

I just recently heard that there was an anime after a friend of mine was begging me to buy her a "Death Note Notebook." Anyways, I just saw the first episode, 'twas very interesting. Just like a few of us in this here topic, I have been reading the manga. I'm somewhere in the manga after L dies and such, it has been a while since I last read it. I'll be watching more of the anime.

Oh, where can I get one of those? It would be a neat present for someone who's birthday is coming up and is watching the anime as well. She's genuinely afraid of ghosts and believes in some paranormal things so there's a chance she might freak out over the book, but that's all the more reason I need to get it. =p

Looks hawt. I'd get one for myself too and use it in school.

And I watched Episode 3 earlier today and it really is getting better and better with each episode. A very smart and interesting plot so far. I wasn't surprised that this police officer was Light's father, but I like how he is playing mind games with L. And I noticed that he hasn't revealed that he can kill people without giving them a heart attack, and I think he's going to use this as an advantage over L later on.
I'm looking forward to the next episode.
Bloo
The Note Book is on sale since the manga is published for not long. It is avaliable in 3 different Sizes, Small medium and original. The prize increases along with the size though. but its a worth to buy =]

Bloo...
Athrun
I just found a bunch of them on eBay.
It looks very authentic. I'll defenitely get two of those.

And I heard that there was a novelised version of Death Note, (not the manga) but it was called something slightly different...
Anyone knows any more on this? I'd like to read it.

I believe it is called Death Note - Another Note or something to that extent. Took me an hour or so to find it for you Mr. Hiku. You can buy it on amazon.co.jp if I am not mistaken (hopefully, it's the correct product).

Click Here.

Yeah, sorry about that.

Finally got around to watching the first three episode that were subbed and I'm pretty surpised that they acutally stuck with the manga's story line because they usually make some changes, but this wasn't the case. This is a good thing since the manga's plot was great. For those who don't want to wait should read the manga. I use to have a site that has scanlations from vol. 1-16, but the site seems to have been taken down.
MisterMonster
My sister is getting me to watch this series with her. I'm usually not into series with gothic/dark themes, I think they're kind of overdone, but Death Note is VERY well written from what I've seen so far, has an amazing soundtrack, and is very well animated and produced.
Natsuki
I've been thinking whether to start the anime or the manga on this for aaages...

I knew about it turning into an anime around the summer time when I was thinking about starting the manga, but since I heard it's turning into an anime, I thought I might aswell wait awhile and see what the animes like and stick with that. But since hearing it's most likely going to stick with the manga I think I'm going to start up the manga even if I've already watched the first three episodes xP.

I actually want to see the Live Action movies made to Death Note since apparently they stuck close to the manga on them aswell. But I'm not sure if the first movie's out on sale in Japan to even wait for someone to upload a subbed version on the net xD. The second movie ins't out till November in the cinemas in Japan as well =/.
AnimePaul
For those who don't know episode 4 of Death Note has been released by Live-Evil and you can find it at animesuki.com if you want to download it. I watched it and as expected everything follows the manga exactly.
Sauce
Some things to look out for in certain episodes.

The chant at the beginning of the first episode is in fact chanting the "Kyrie eleison" which is a part of the ordinary of the catholic mass. Kryie is greek for, "Oh lord," the complete text of the Kyrie Eleison is, "Lord have mercy; Christ have mercy; Lord have mercy."

On episode 2, investigators from various countries were gathered in a council room and had a small sign with their names and the flag of their country on it placed on the desk infront of them. All those names were actually names of soccer players from the same country as the country the flag on the sign represents.

On episode five, closely following the voice of the announcer thanking the sponsers, is the sound of someone biting into an apple (the apple being a significant motif in this anime).
DayDreamer
I've read quite into the manga now and its confusing now.

<Manga Spoiler>
When losing ownership of the death note, doesn't anyone whom has had contact with that note also lose their memory of the note too? And when a person whom has ownership of the death note dies, wouldn't that be the same as losing the ownership of the death note? If so then how come when Higuri [I think thats his name (the third kira)] died, and I presumed that Light immediatly became the new owner as he was touching it afterwards, how come no one lost thier memory?

So many rules @_@

<Manga Spoiler End>

Oh yeah, I noticed they missed a small scene out in the anime. The part after the bus where Lights date wishes to continue the rest of the day together was left out. I like what they've done with the colour sceme too at the end of episode 6. Really sets the atmosphere ^^. Will continue watching the anime too.
LagunaWannabe
Okay I'm confused about the ending....

could somebody post how to black my writing out tho, because idont wanna spoil it
Athrun
@DayDreamer

<Manga Spoiler>
You must have confused yourself quite a bit here, because I have no idea what you're talking about. lol Light Yagami was the original owner of that Deathnote. When he gave it up, he lost his memories. The third Kira got caugfht and killed. So what does it matter if third Kira lost his memories or not? I'm sure he did, but he is dead... Anyway, as long as Light held on to the book (without being it's new owner) he would regain his old memories from that book. But once the third Kira was dead, ownership once again went to Light because he was the first one to touch it after the previous owners death. As the new owner, his memories would stay even if the book was taken away from him. Having it taken away is not the same as losing ownership.
<Manga Spoiler End>

And Laguna, just make the text go black. It's not that hard. o.o'
You don't know how to change the color of your text? There's a button for it above the box where you type.
LagunaWannabe
okay thanks Athrun, i just never really thought about it, because I do the fast reply lol but
SPOILERS:

I just finished the Manga, and the last 3 pages, with the people gathing with the candles and stuff, what's going on there? And when Light dies, is there no place that he goes? It's just nothingness? And what happeend to Miss Amane? Is she okay?

i LOVED this manga, it was so dark and serious, i love that in a manga/anime. I don't really like the happy go lucky stuff or the funny drawings

Light Yagami is my favorite character ever, I have like 70 manga scans and cropped for coolness of just all the times he's drawn very darkly, or delirious, or evily. THe art was just amazing for him and the series, and he just did so much bad stuff i love it

Mikami was cool too
DayDreamer
<Manga Spoiler>
No Athrun you miss understood me. I was saying that how come the other peope meaning the police and 'L' didn't lose their memory of the note. Was there not a rule about that? Otherwise the note would be known to humans (like now) even if the user does lose his memories after death.
<Manga Spoiler End>
Athrun
It seems that only the user of the notebook can lose his memories of it.
LagunaWannabe
Hey!! what about my question!!! :-O!!!
Athrun
@ Laguna

Not sure what's going on in the end, but no one knows who that girl is. She's not Misa thoug. As for Misa, the writer said that she most likely killed herself when she found out that Light had died. And apparently there is no heaven or hell, so Light will go to the same nothingness world as everyone else. Though I always thought that when Ryuku first said that, he meant that Light will go to the Shinigami world and become a Shinigami. *shrugs*
guardian84
I had the same though too, Alex. But apparently, I was wrong too. xD

Now I'm just waiting for volume 13 of the manga to be out, which they said would be a special edition to the series, and includes several behind the scenes notes and addons.

And BTW, the live action movie differs a lot from the manga, with bits and piece of similarity. But the storyline has changed significantly.

Gonna take a while for the sequel to reach Singapore, I guess. =\
Voyou San
just picked up vol 1 and 2 of the manga and so far i really like it smile.gif just wish manga was cheapers
Denim
I read the manga's first volume, and watched the first two episodes. The first two episodes were almost exactly like Chapters 1-4 of the manga, except for some very small details (like Light's shopping being done the day after the G8 summit instead of the same day).

I really enjoyed the first volume. I should read the second one sometime.
LagunaWannabe
My interpretation of the final pages of the manga:

I just think that those last few pages are a cult group who still support Kira, and hope that he comes back. I think those are the people who truly thought Kira was God. Which is kind of nice, because it symbolizes that after Light died, people still wanted Kira there, and it shows that Kira was not totally evil, that there are people who truly appreciated what he tried to do. Like, even though Light lost, he gave hope to people and although it was all murder, it was appreciated. I don't think the girl is anybody in particular, and if my interpretation is right, it gives the series some more closure. That it wasn't as if Light just died in vain, he died, but his legacy still lived on.
AnimePaul
How is it that you guys already finished reading the manga when the 11th volume is set to be released in May of next year here in the states? How many volumes are there in Death Note?
Athrun
There are 12 volumes. They've all been fan translated online.
A 13th special volume is going to be translated soon as well.
worsle
Recently got into this show so I though this topic could do with a bump. Really love Light as a main character he really make the show for me, with his brilliant but very evil plans. Makes the show stand out, might try and get some of the manga as well but for now I think I will stick with the anime.

Also watched the film while its budget was clearly a little strapped at points and at least initially it did not really get across how smart Light (partly because of how terrible the sub was) is the ending made the movie for me.
silver
I've read the first four I borrowed them from Zebulum5, and they got me hooked, I find it interseting, how L sits, but It's starting to get really good, can't wait till she buys more death note.
Aidan
I'm bumping this topic because I've just become a Death Note fan. Didn't think it was possible to watch 12 episodes in one sitting, but apparently it is. >_> That series is so addictive, it's crazy.

I haven't read the manga though. I love the anime so much that I don't think I'll start the manga.

Death Note: Last Name is coming to Singapore at 28 December! Gosh, I'm so hyped to watch it, and I probably will, since my boyfriend probably will want to watch it too. XD

I heard that this one will go quite different from the manga. I suspect they are going to end it at Misa Misa arc and change bunches of it. o.o

That's the second movie right? I don't know when I'll watch it, since my girlfriend wants us to watch each episode together. I'm not allowed to watch new episodes until I burn them on a DVD for her. XD I still haven't seen 11. =/ I have the first film on my harddrive though, but I'll wait till she wants to see it, which is probbaly when the anime ends. lol
Seluna
Yup, that's the second movie. Probably the last too, if what I perceive from the rumours is to be trusted. >.> I think I'll probably only be watching the anime if my boyfriend have them.
Akito
The manga was good, although I hate Light. Absolutely, positively detest him. His badass, I know, but his so cruel >__< He killed Ray Penbar's girlfriend! (Fortunately, she plays a major role in the movie XD)

My favourite character would have to be L, *spoiler* It's a real shame his death's so...lame. */spoiler*

Yeah watching the movie would probably not be a great idea if you still want to enjoy the anime to the fullest. The anime is listed as 37 episodes though. I wonder if that's enough to conclude the whole series, or if it ends at a certain arch?
Aidan
Is the movie live action? And where can one find it?
Athrun
It's live action. You can find it by searching on torrent sites. The first movie has been subed. I don't know about the second one.
Aidan
Ah, I see. Thank you. You said something about it ruining the rest of the anime series? I'm not sure if I'd wanna do that. xD Do you really think that the anime series would be spoiled if I decided to watch the live action movie?
Athrun
Well you said you didn't want to read the manga right? Either by reading the manga or watching the movie, you'll find out about the story. So you will no longer be surprised by the events in the anime.
Aidan
Ah, I was sorta under the impression that each movie was about half the series, and considering that I'd be at halfway through the series soon (a few more weeks), I was considering watching the first one.
