Those who already played Episode III surely noticed that all scenes with blood had been changed.

1) The classic "cloud of blood" when you kill a B-enemy was changed be colorful lights.

2) When Shion's mother (and father) is killed by the Realians, the child Shion cryes holding her hands next to her bed -- as if trying to hold something -- saying "it won't stop". It's pretty obvious is the blood floowing out of the corpse. That scene was ridiculous and confuse because of that change.

3) Another very deep scene involving Jin was ruined because of that, because the only thinc that come to mind is: "Is he made of wood?"

Those really bummed me off! I mean, some violence sometimes is necessary to the plot -- it's not like Episode III were a Mortal Kombat or something like that! Editing the violent scenes really screwed them up!

Yeah seriously. All those messed up scenes and no blood, I understand they pussied the game because they always do when its going to be released in America. I suppose it was too keep the ESRP rating to Teen and make better sales.

It really did bother me to not see blood, god knows what else they censored.

They also censored Shion's Asscrack... Yep... in the shower scene in the japanese version you can see just the slightest bit of crack through the steam... but they made sure you couldn't in the American Version... God Bless America... Easy to buy Firearms but at least you don't see any female Arse in their games...

I also think they've cutted the D-Terinas(?spelling?) battle scenes. In the movies, when KOS-MOS uses D-Tenerinas, her breast is almost all out. In the battle scenes, as soon as it opens up, that giant ball of energy it's already at the target. You don't really see it charge...

WHAT?! You mean their denying red-blooded Americans glimpses of booty AND bosoms? That's it, time to sharpen the pitchfork and light the torches, people. Violent themes like that should have a toggle switch access-controlled by the parental settings on the playstation, so more mature gamers don't feel like fools. It really irks me that the ESRB people apparantly think disembowling someone is less violent for lack of gore. But hey, we've seen worse. Valkyrie Profile fans saw Badrach's cigarette edited RIGHT OUT OF HIS MOUTH. His Finishing Strike doesn't even make sense this way (flicking nothing into a cloud of explosive powder?) But I digress.

And did anyone else find it strange that they would edit out KOS-MOS finely engineered chest, but leave in Miyuki's 'dirty old man' comment at the beginning? (XS III)

I dunno... I agree that censorship is pretty whack nasty but we see it all the time in movies and games. For some reason our little minds aren't big enough to wrap around the fact that if you kill something, it bleeds.

It's censored more than likely for the reason Raz said above, and you really can't blame them for wanting to make more sales... However maybe there should be an option like we have with a lot of movies today in which there is a rated and unrated version of the game.

I think that'd sell very well to be honest, and it's not too hard to do as proven by the movie industry.

I've not played the game yet so I can't see what you're talking about myself, but I'll make my way to it eventually. It's just a shame that they felt the need to edit the game.

I don't know about movie censoring, but when it comes to Anime, they're not editing, they're slauthering the anime.

For example, 'One Piece', one of Japan's major hits, was a fiasco in the west (Brasil included, since we import the american version ) because of the cuts.

I mean, 4Kids censored even Digimon.

And speaking of nonsense editing, on Naruto, they cutted off the comic ACCIDENTAL kiss of Naruto ans Sassuke, but I've heard that Haku's lines weren't change. I mean, Haku is Zabuza's LOVER.

I don't know about you but I see borderline-pornagraphy as a a worse influence. Blood is pretty well known to a teen but borderline pornagraphy will turn that generation to one full of molesters.

Honestly, getting someone to play a complex title like Xenosaga just because of partially nude characters tells us that section of the audience has some severe psychological issues. I understand commercials which max at 2 min but a game like this? It makes no sense!

They could do much better announcing that this game belongs in the 'intellectual' sphere. Hell, many would jump across, an equally significant number will criticize it's 'intellectuall-ness" [sic] because its a game rather than a novel. Other commmercialist nuts will compare it with the bible but use arguments that they don't even understand.

It'll be a blast. This story obviously has more substance than the Da Vinci Code especially if you're even vaguely familiar with the philosophers like Jung, Nietzche, Wagner, to the Avestan scriptures and so forth. Namco should expand that budget so we could see a real organic universe and then we'll have organizations opposing this game. With Scientia-like organizations being established by individuals who notice that there is a lot of powers with crazy 'toys' out there.

That in my opinion is the best way to get increase appeal especially when its dealing with figures Yeshua. It's so 'controversial' yet we know a lot about him due to outside sources. Also he's still a significant figure in Western life - well, that's what they say - so if that is the case then why not continue the story he's trying to tell rather than turn our population into Gnosis.

By the way, note that Xeno-series attempts to continue the tale by placing it in a universe "far" away from us. Many like H.G. Wells, etc choose to do the same. Basing it on real-life may be a bit too dangerous for a story and hence the allusions. Personally I think it's excellent that we see new forms of art that attempt to address old issues through new methods. The anime Gankutsuou pulls off quite well too. That's real Art, imo. It is not supposed to open our eyes not bring us bliss.

Also it keeps stuff "hidden" for a while from organizations who seem to want humans to be stupid. Don't get me wrong, we don't need to afraid like during the time Jesus was talking, but for some reason people like John Lennon always disappear. But these days, the mainstream audience find it interesting hence the attenuated version constantly being played in movies. The reason why Xenosaga is not compatible is because its not 'real' enough, it would have to go outside science fiction and hence would be crap. Actually SF is being more accepted, but it would have to look much more better visually. ...oh well, the mainstream audience is missing out a lot.

What I am is criticizing CENSORSHIP. Specially the one that is crappily done -- like was with Xenosaga.

I'm 22 years old, I'm not fond of excessive violence or "misplaced sensuality/pornography". But I rather take a SUPER-VIOLENT SEXUALLY-EXPLICIT Game/Manga with GOOD STORY (Like 'BERSERK', my favourite manga), than ANYTHING CENSORED!!!

The censorship on Xenosaga, was overreaction and turned 2 major scenes into joke.

Other games have been severely -- and unnescessarily -- censored, like 'Resident Evil'. You can see the cutted scenes playing the "Director's Cut" version. Even that "Bad Sci-Fi" crappy intro movie was edited!

If you want to just make sales, than they should at least make 2 versions: the edited and the original, so you'd buy what you want. Like they did with 'Ghost in the Shell' manga.

Now if you mean they could have gotten sued, then yeah possibly but i maintain the position that they did it for getting their sales up, with the ESRB the way they are these days it wouldnt have been hard to get a mature rating, the big retailers dont carry mature games so that would have been a huge blow to their sales numbers.

Overall I can live with the censorship, is stupid but this aint no FPS or altogether action game, its an RPG, we can let it slide.

I don't think they did change anything... at least if they did I didn't hear anything about it... but I know the japanese are a lot more funny with their male nudity than their female nudity. It was most likley not in either version.

Like I said, it could be paranoia from my part. That's another problem with censorship, you start seeing censor and edits even where there aren't any!

I think in Episode I, MOMO says that her father spoke to her while she was in that little tube and taught her alot,

Don't get me wrong though. I felt really bad for her father. IMO I think he died in the worst way. Atleast Aoi died in her sleep.

I dont know, I may be incorrect, but wasnt Aoi in a coma? If so, then she probably didnt feel anything, and besides, the father died at a time where his family all thought that they were betrayed by them, so he died in a misunderstood way as well as being able to feel everything.

I suppose, but it was an honorable death. He did it to save shion, and I suppose it was too late for Aoi.
