Which is your favorite Hayao Miyazaki movie?
Howl's Moving Castle (2005)
The Cat Returns (2003)
Spirited Away (2002)
Sherlock Hound: Case File 1 (2000)
Princess Mononoke (1999)
Kiki's Delivery Service (1998)
My Neighbor Totoro (1993)
Porco Rosso (1992)
Castle in the Sky (1986)
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (1984)
Warriors of the Wind (1984)
Lupin III Castle Cagliostro (1982)
The Castle of Cagliostro (1979)
for me its a tie between The Cat Returns and Howl's Moving Castle. Both of them have great stories and just such imagination behind them. Plus both have two actors doing voice for the movies that I love. Howl's Moving Castle of course is Christian Bale and The Cat Returns is cary elwes. I guess when push comes to shove i'd choose Howl's Moving Castle.

Tenku no shiro Laputa is Castle in the sky... x.x
But anyways, my favourite would probably be Laputa: Castle in the sky since it was my very first Miyazaki flick and I grew up watching it over and over again xD.
Second would have to go to Spirited Away since I love it's creative-ness and third would go to Kiki's Delivery Service because it was so cute especially the talking cat xD.

My most unforgettable would probably be My Neighbor Totoro. I grew up watching that, cos it was dubbed in Chinese and being the young me, I happily watched it. It subsequently got me watching the rest of Miyazaki sensei's works.
I'd vote for Grave of Fireflies, which isn't stated there (or I might not know it's other name, if any), Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle. Cat's Return isn't technically Hayao Miyazaki's work, cos he was more of an advisory role during the making of that movie.
-cough- I've been inactive for too long already.

Miyazaki = Win
All Miyazaki films are masterpieces. My favorite was Spirited Away. I also like Porco Rosso, Kiki's Delivery Service, Howl's Moving Castle, and Nausicaa of the Valley of the Winds. I never saw Laputa or Princess Mononeke...
I love Miyazaki. His films are amazing, but one thing I absolutely hate: My favorite movie of his is Spirited Away, and I HATE the ending to it! He leaves too much up for our imaginations, and it drives me insane. I know he doesn't make sequals... but still...

Princess Mononoke, I've watched it about 7 times. I love it to death ^_~.
Just something about the story and characters that really hit home- and those little things that live in the forest who bobble their heads- hehe! so cute. And his elk is so cute <3, I always hated it when it got hurt

I don't have a particular favorite, but I enjoyed quite a lot of his work. :]
I really did like Laputa as it was so fun to watch for me, especially with those pirate brothers with their mom. Or did I get that wrong? XD
Spirited Away held such creativity and I absolutely adored the characters and story. I still love to watch it whenever I get a chance. <3
I really just love them all, they've all got such diverse and charming aspects to each that I can't choose a favorite.

I've only watched two of his films but I love them both so much I can't even express it.
I think the best film would have to be Spirited Away... I think it has such a huge potential Audience. It's such a beautiful story and it has so many layers. I only wish we would have seen more of her adventures while she was there but the length of the movie was perfect so part of me is glad that we don't.
The other movie I have is Howls Moving Castle... I just happen to have very fond memories of this movie and so naturally I probably like it more than I should... However the scene when the two women are climbing the steps is just an absoloute classic. The characters were all lovable and full of interesting quirks.
These are also the only two foreign films that I've found so far that I can stand to watch with Dubs (in fact I think the english dubs may even add to the movie).

You know, I've only seen about 3 of his films, and of the three I thought two were particuarly nice.
I liked Spirited Away, especially Haku. I think San has issues, like....ugly-little-girl issues. It was probably drawn that way intentionally, but there's no denying that I still think she's ugly and annoying hahaha.
I also liked Princess Mononoke. 8) Except I really disliked the heroes of the movie, and I really thought that Lady Eboshi was kickass. If it could've worked out my way, Eboshi would've been like...supreme ruler hahahaha.
I intensely dislike Spirited Away. A film on its own is ok, but I'm a huge fan of the book by Diana Wynne Jones (Yes, there IS a book.) and the movie is nothing like it. Wtf Sophie was doing her laundry with the scarecrow? In the book she and Calcifer and Howl had to work their asses off to get away from the scarecrow in about 90% of the book. That's right, I'm one of those people that scrutinizes the film based on the book, and I'm usually not this harsh but this movie was like, wtf.

You mean Howl's Moving Castle, dear. Book was excellent, but I liked the movie also.
And I swear, this has got to be the 4th or 5th Miyazaki thread I've seen in the last month. Someone want to merge them or something?

I Assume you meant "Howl's moving castle" hahah but I probably wouldn't have liked it as much if I read the book, the same when it comes to book to movie films...

Pardon honey, I got caught up in the moment.
And it probably is, since I recall ranting about this at least once before.
What can I say, I love to bitch my hate about this movie. 8D

My favorite is Howls moving castle and princess mononoke.
I loved all the others though. I have yet to see a film by him that I didnt like.
So it is a bit hard to choose one over the other.
But these two are the ones that I enjoyed the most.

I am absolutely in love with Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle. All three of those films were masterpieces. I love how nobody in those films are really the bad guys, and that in same way, shape or form, they're good characters, or turn out being good in the end. I also love the voice acting in these films. Perfect choices. Christian Bale as Howl? Thank you very much!

Definitely Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away. Both were just amazingly done, and yes, I loved the fact that Christian Bale did Howl. I saw it in theaters a week after Batman Begins, so the entire movie I was sitting there going "What the... who the... why does Howl sound so FAMILIAR?!" X D
I loved the book, too. I went out and bought it a little bit after I saw the movie, and it was just terrific. "Howell Jenkins"... heh. That was quite a twist. I'm a little disappointed that they left that out of the movie.

Princess Mononoke, and Castle in the Sky. Hands down. two great movies

If you want famous voice acting, Princess Monoke is full of it. Billy Bob Thornton, Gillian Anderson, Claire Danes, Keith David, Minnie Driver, lol, even John Dimaggio (Bender from Futurama).
And hey, that list you show there isn't even the full list. Theres at least 21 movies. Having bought a collection in China got me all of them, but I have yet to watch all of them.
And with that said, my favorite atm is Nausicaa. Good god that is a wonderful movie. If you haven't seen it, do so right away!
I worship Miyasaki for his ability to keep the special magic of his movies in every single one he makes, independant on style.

If you can find it Tunk, check out the manga version of Nausicaa. It's twice as good as the movie.

This thread's from November? Anyway...
I was 10 when Kiki's Delivery Service came out stateside, and I remember renting it along with The Land Before Time VI. As I've said on another thread, I've been an avid admirer of Miyazaki's work ever since. I saw Princess Mononoke around the time when I was seriously getting into anime with Gundam Wing and Evangelion. I saw Spirited Away shortly after. I honestly can't pick a favorite out of the movies I've seen from him. I believe his next film is scheduled for release sometime next year. I'm looking forward to it. I must have seen Howl's Moving Castle five times already on cable movie channels alone.
