Nani?
Starcraft is by far the best RTS game I have ever played.

It transcends graphics. It's got bad ones, but the game still rocks. Warcraft III had beastly graphics, but the game wasn't nearly as good.

That, and I heard Starcraft II is FINALLY coming out. I'm going to have an orgie when it does. A giant, Starcraft orgie.
The Evil Dead
You're crazy if you think Warcraft 3 has beastly graphics... Even when it debuted the graphics weren't nearly on par with what was out at the time. In fact, Blizzard developed the game to run on lower end consoles.

Anyway... Starcraft is indeed the #####. It's old as all hell but it's still one of the top RTS games today. It set the standard for RTS titles when it came out and today it's still one of my favorites. I'm sure people probably still play it online.

I'm more into the Dawn of War series now, especially since the new expansion pack is out. If you like Starcraft check it out... It's kinda got that same feel, but your units are squad based instead of individual as well as many other things.

It's out? Since when?

And yes, Starcraft should go down as the greastest RTS game ever. Period.

I'm not getting my hopes up for SC2, they cancelled Ghost didn't they?

I loved starcraft, it's really good The first ones is the best when the girl joins the zerg, It is my favorite game to play on my computer.
Voyou San
starcraft was one of my favorite RTS games and was very badass, but I have to say Warcraft and Command and Conquer were better.
The Evil Dead
The new Dawn of War has been out for about a week... I was going to buy it awhile back but I decided to get Neverwinter Nights 2 instead. I think you get like 2 new races and a bunch of other new crap, and the best part is you don't have to own the original title ( even though I have the original Dawn and Winter Assault ) to play the new expansion. It's good stuff.

Real problem with Starcraft and most other rts after playing DoW is the lack of kill syncs. I mean look
http://img333.imageshack.us/img333/8025/okzz3.gif

Where else would you get some thing like that, that and some of the dow race mods are nearing releases it seems, and at least one of them has higher quality models than relic has.

http://img177.imageshack.us/my.php?image=s...public22ng1.jpg
Nani?
I'll admit, that was a pretty badass kill sync. But Starcraft Broodwar (which is really what makes it so good, I've won games with only medics and rines) is from 98'.

I sorta have my hopes up for starcraft 2. But not for when it comes out, for the stuff i has.

What I really don't like with some of the units is the specials, and other things. Terran needs more loading units (like rines in Seige Tanks), and Dropships are the worst thing out there. Almost all terran stuff in SC 2 should be loadable.

And Warcraft needs to die. The entire series. Just right now, dies. I am opposed to 3 things in life, Corporate Zombies, the West Coast, and Warcraft.
The Evil Dead
Without Warcraft there would be no Starcraft, or Blizzard for that matter.
Nani?
Fine, I'll settle for LESS warcraft. But it still sucks for taking away our funding. Those evil bitches.

That's why they cancelled Starcraft Ghost, which promised to be BEASTLY.

I'm not talking to you anymore.

Starcraft still my favorite game for the computer.

I doubt Starcraft Ghost was going to be beastly. The Starcraft series should stick to RTS, not go into FPS. I'm still hoping we'll get Starcraft 2 in the near future. The series need to be revived once again. I just hope if they do make a Starcraft 2, they don't turn into a Warcraft III clone.

Warcraft current series for Blizzard. The hype of that series won't die any time soon. I just hope Blizzard doesn't milk that series for everything it's worth, then release or start working on Starcraft 2. Warcraft series got a lot of popularity and it's not dying any time soon.

I agree it needs to regain it's hype, but I hope it doesn't turn out to be like WOW, if thathappens I won't beable to play with out a high speed internet.
Nani?
The reason I'm skeptical about it is the fact that when I played Warcraft III, i just couldn't get into the races. Starcraft let me get in almost instantly, but Warcraft III lacked something. I really hope Starcraft won't turn out like that, because once the sequel is out, there'll be the thousands of souless corporate losers who rush to play it even though it might suck. And I'll be all alone on Broodwar.....*cry*

Warcraft III focus on hero units being the meat of your army. A good hero can take down a good size army. I thought I was going to enjoy the hero aspect, but it just elimated the need for massive battle between two enemy armies like you had in Starcraft. Starcraft focus on numbers and basis units while Warcraft III focus mainly on heroes being the backbone of an army. I didn't mind at first, but heroes matter way too much in Warcraft III.
Nani?
Yeah. You kinda pinned it down there.

The Starcraft heroes (in the campaign) where pretty much like what heroes should be. Only a bit better than everything else. Warcraft heroes were incredibly unbalanced (1 special kills everything), that combined with the almost incredible lack of specials and cloaking, that kinda screwed it over. And the specials that were there were kinda worthless.

Starcraft had Psionic Storm, which owned all kinda ass. Mind Control, Plague, Dark Swarm, Stim Pac, Cloack, Maelstrom, Ensnare, Spawn Broodling, Infest CC, Morphing, Lockdown, Nuke, Heal, Restore, Blind, Seige Mode, Spider mines, Consume, Irradiate, EMP, Defensive Matrix, Recall, Stasis, Yamoto Cannon, Parasite, and of course, Disruption Web.

Each of these were incredibly useful.

I didn't even take the time to learn the strategies for Warcraft III. I won every game by getting Lich king, and a whole bunch of Gargoyles, and then just killing their main building. Not tactics, No specials, just mass and attack.

You couldn't do that in Starcraft. They would have maelstromed, Stasised, or Lockdowned you, and then got units to screw you over.

The units themselves weren't even moderatly useful, you only had to build 1 type of unit and a hero. Humans you build Dragonhawk Riders. Orcs you built bat Riders, Undead Gargoyles (or Ice Wyrm), Elves Gryphin Riders (or Chimera).

What I did like was the different types of attack, however, they made the system to show what it does WAY to complicated. I liked the different effects and abilities of each type, but then they displayed more information you needed to know. Starcraft was this

Armor
Ground Attack
Air Attack (if it had one)

That's it. Nothing else.

I'm going on to long now.

I don't know about all that. You could pretty easily win a match just by massing and constantly attacking the enemy base.

Anyway, I loved Starcraft back in my middle school days and I still love it to this day. Every once in awhile I'll go back and play the campaigns. Haven't played online in a long time, I stopped playing online because there was way too much attacking your own teammate thing going on, don't know if it's still like that or not.
Nani?
The massing thing is still going on, however people have abandoned it in real maps (not fastest). Mostly because some of my old clan members (from an old one that I left) learned how to counter mass attacks when they were toss. But that was a bit back. And alot of people found out how to, anyway.

The whole backstabbing craze really doesn't go on anymore. People sorta realized that if they kept doing that, they would have no friends. So they stopped. I backstab in UMS maps occasionally, if my teammate is being retarded.
Eva
Mass attacking a typical strategy. Even in Warcraft III, certain players don't even training a hero unit and just attack with a massive army. Starcraft and Warcraft III don't differ in the aspect that neither have more or less strategy than the other. Still, I get quite annoyed when I'm getting beat down by a hero unit 2 to 3 levels higher than me, because he was creep hunting.

Good days of backstabbing. I remember a couple of my allies just team with to backstab a douchebag talking far too much during a match. Of course, it happen to me quite often. I attack the enemy and I'm about to win, then my allies gathers all his units in my base and attacks my base. I can understand backstabbing a jerk, but people that just plan to backstab and make you do all the work was quite annoying.

Just about any recent gen PC title you play, if not all of them, require broadband internet to play them online. It's just not possible to process the graphics available on titles these days sending and receiving at like 5k a second.

As for Starcraft, UMS maps are the win. I remember playing the Smash TV UMS and loving the hell out of it... As well as the Starship Troopers maps. I never bothered to play on the real maps because the UMS maps were just a hell of a lot more entertaining to play.
Nani?
UMS does win out in the end. That's what i loved most about starcraft. The map editor was amazing. So many maps got made, it's crazy.

The most complicated map i have is Normandy TWC. It's about 6 meg. Crazy...

Of course, the best UMS maps are Diplos and RPs because they require strategy and creativity. Other maps, such as Strip Sakura, or Alba, or Herminione (WHAT THE #####???), or Dirty Tank D....is just retarded.

Attention Pervs: Starcraft is NOT an outlet for porn. And I am not the source for a good time.
The Evil Dead
I was always particular to the golem games as well... You could like combine different numbers of marines to certain areas and you'd spawn with some crazy UMS unit.

Man I used to know all the combinations and everything for most of those maps... They got pretty silly once you figured out what units in particular did the most stomping.
Vilagen
Not a big fan of Blizzard, only because I have not played too many of their games, but I love Starcraft without a doubt.

When I first played it the campaigns were what won me over. Before that the only RTS feeling I ever got was Command and Conquer. This blew away any C&C game I every played at that point (and this point).

What's amazing is the popularity of the title. It's 8 years old, going towards 9 and it's still huge. Maybe not WOW huge, but big none the less. I honestly can't figure what the hell is going through Blizzard. If they would just make a sequel of Starcraft they would make piles of cash from the name alone, even after all of this time after its initail release and not having a single sequel to go with it. (Well, I guess that depends on how you look at Brood War). They must have more than enough demand for a sequel, hell, years ago probably.

Also, even though it might piss people off, I think that I would reform into the MMORPG world if there is ever anything like a World of Starcraft kind of thing. Call me shameless, but I would enjoy seeing the Protoss and Zerg rendered in 3D.
Kronik
Warcraft III isn\'t perfect.

Fact.

But it does indulge us in an RTS that has a 3D feel to it.

Starcraft is maybe second or third on the best RTS\' of all time. Command and Conquer and Red Alert are mixed somewhere into that.

Fans have been waiting for Starcraft II for ages. And we still will be waiting. Till we have grey hair and beards.

That\'s just how it is.
Nani?
Warcraft III only has a 3d feel because it was released after Starcraft.

If they made a Starcraft II now, it would be far superior to Warcraft III, as long as they didn't screw it up by essentially making it Warcraft III with a starcraft skin.

Taking in account the age and graphics, I would rate Starcraft as the 1st or 2nd best. And Red Alert was good, but I never got into it much. The campaign was good, but I could never find modded maps.

Am I the only one that thinks Dropships should have something to protect them? Because they're the worst of all ships (low speed and low armor). So shouldn't they have marines able to load into them?

And seige tanks need to have a marine loaded in. It's just not logical to abandone a major tradition for tanks (machine gunners) just because it's the future.

They could do some improvements, but overall, it's still amazing. Just the customability makes it good.
DxS
Oh man I totally forgot about UMS maps. That's all I really played aside from a few normal games now and then. They were awesome.

Anyone interested in playing online? All this talk has me all excited to play it again. I played a game earlier today against the computer and I'd really like to play with or against someone. I was never really an expert at the game but it would be fun.
Nani?
Sure...my clan just broke up (those losers), so I'm itching for some new play. And new members (for my own clan....hehe...ambitious? No...)

So if you wanna play, just look for ChronoSoul[TS]

World of Warcraft still racking in a ton of cash. There's no reason to start developing SC II until World of Warcraft is no longer making good profit for Blizzard. At least, that's what I assume. If they release Starcraft II. Even if it's a RTS game, people would stop playing World of Warcraft to play Starcraft II. I suspect Starcraft II will be free online, but you never know. I'm not that knowledgable when it come to computer gaming world.

I won't be baffle if a World of Starcraft created, but Starcraft II will come first. People are dying for RTS Starcraft.

Neccers, I would, but I lost my CD ages ago.

Eh? I thought that's only useful if I lost my CD-key. I lost my game disc, the actual game. I have the original around, but my Broodwar disc got broke. I had a burn copy of Broodwar, but it trashed when my last laptop broke.

My friend has an extra, and he never plays. If you give me your address, phone number, credit card number, social security number, a few sextapes, and a pile of money, I'll send you it.

Starcraft is one of the best rts of times they have made little upgrades her and their.
But their still some improvement that they could do like make it like warcraft 3 where u can trade money and gas to your ally. But also Starcraft II has been talked about since i was in middle school and i am in college now so that tell u something about blizzard.
Nani?
Well that's why we're waiting for Starcraft II. As long as they don't make it a hero-based system, or make it incredibly stupid somehow, I'm fine.
Artik2
Starcraft is great in SP but C&C its better in MP... I love both!!!
Nani?
They're making a C&C 3! I'm happy now.

I actually though SC's single kinda sucked. The mutli was better, mostly cause of all the modded maps and stuff.
thechaos
Ok, so starcraft is 15 years old. SO WHAT. It is the best rts game that is still on the shelves to last this long. Starcraft will deffinitely go down in history as the best rts out there.
