Now the main character is someone obviously like Terra, Cloud, Squall, Zidane etc. Who is your favourite?
Mine's Squall, I like quiet types, and he has this 'I don't care' attitude which I like. His story is in depth I think, something that you don't see all the time, it's like he doesn't want to be friends with anyone because he'll have something to lose, and he already lost his "Sister" and he doesn't want to experience the pain again, so in many ways Squall is a very weak character, but that's what's cool about him.

I find it hard to pick a favorite

I don't tend to get attached to the main character too often.
I guess if I had to pick one it would be Squall because he is complete hotness.

I don't care much for his personality, but still.

My favorite has always been Locke from FFVI. I know he may not be considered the main character of the game, (that person being Terra) but he is sort of a main character to me.
I don't really know why, but I became really attached to him from the start of the game, and I found him to be a very interesting character. I really enjoyed his part of the game. Like when you did his mission where he snuck through South Figaro, when you had to become a merchant and a soldier to get through. Also I enjoyed his side scenes about Rachel, and I enjoyed the part when you get him again in the World Of Ruin.

Squall, he was pretty different than most FF main characters. I mean he warmed up eventually, but it's nice to see the hero be a little dark. I guess I can relate sometimes, maybe thats why. Not saying the others were bad, I mean I liked Terra and Cloud too.

Oh and lolButz and lolCecil.

I do also like squall. I liked him being quiet and cautious. But sometimes he was really naiv and I just wanted to go into the game help seifer kick him a little bit. The innocent relation between squall and rinoa and the sweet moment in ragnarok though makes me like squall a little bit more...
I also like cloud a lot. He is a tough guy who altough it may not allways seem like that, he tries to satisfy all his friends. He is a strong character and leader and I like that. He is liked.
Must say it's a tie...maybe a little more into cloud though

You should really consider throwing this into the all inclusive FF forums just for the sake of being able to speak about all FF characters... Unless you're that concerned about dealing with just the first nine FF's.
I'm gonna say that Butz is my favorite main character in any FF... Because his name is Butz. FF 5 is the win.
In all seriousness though I've never really been too enthralled by the MAIN character in any FF title. I usually find the supporting cast a bit more appealing because they're not the typical main hero type that you find in just about every RPG and generally are more intriguing characters.

Really sorry about that, my mistake I'm used to clicking the button to this forum, ah well anyway I doubt many people are gonna vote for Tidus.
Could you move it to the series forum? Please?

Cloud is easily my favourite but squall is pretty decent too. My least favourite is probably Zidane and Tidus. I thought Tidus was ok toward the end though as his character grew more mature but he was quite irritating to begin with - more 'tedious' than Tidus, but he does grow on you eventually.

Okay here's the thing... As of 2 years ago?? Squall was hands DOWN the best Main Character. So much character change, and lots of interesting quotes and thoughts.
BUT
Ever since Kingdom Hearts and Advent Children came around, Cloud has considerably improved from his blocky-blonde-hair-purple-jumpsuit character design. His character has evolved MUCH more since the game. And although I still like Squall's character design and overall design better, Cloud is coming close.
I also like Vaan a lot, i'm not done with FF12 yet, but his character is really interesting.
hands down. BEST main character in ANY game ever? Dart. From Legend of Dragoon. Thought i'd throw that in there :-)

out of all the FF's i've played (part of FFIV, FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX amd FFXII), Squall was the best. Cloud sucked as a character, Zidane was too optimistic, Vaan is decent- might be out Squall as i get farther into FFXII, but his nose iritates me.
@wannabe- Dart was a great character, definitely. Vyse (Skies of Aracadia) & Ash Lambert (Vandal~Hearts) are also up there in my books.

I've actually never really cared for the "main character" in the FF's with exclusion of VI and maybr IV. I usually find them boring, Squall, or annoying, Tidus.
For FFVI I would actually say there were two main characters, Terra in the first part, and Celes in the ruined world part. I prefer either of them over the others.

Zidane (FFIX). He was the funniest!
And Cloud, from 'FFVII: Advent Children', of course!
My least favourite one is Tidus(FFX). He's just sooo annoying!

Well, I always found it a bit, if anything, cheesy to think of the main character as your fav....
So, I'll just put it this way...
Best out of those selection was Zidane. He had a tail, and that's all he needed to win me over.
Fav Chars (from each game)
7 - Vincent
8 - The sniper (forgot his name, been a while)
9 - Vivi (hella cool)
10 - Auron (wakka was close)
x-2 - (I will not consider this a game based on the fact of my hatred for it)
12 - Basch (my fav char of all time)
Tactics - Delita
Tactics Advanced - Cid (I spent 200+ hours just to unlock him)
Crystal Chronicles - No main chars... But the wolf people were cool.
Origins - (never got into much)

I generally don't like any of the main characters... The one I like the least is Zidane (I just didn't enjoy his attitude and he seemed quite weak in battle. Zidane just didn't bring much to the table in or out of battle) closely followed by Squall (I like what they tried to do with squall but His Angst-ridden attitude throughout the first half of the game began to grate on me, however the scenes he had in FH after disc 2 were quite well written. He was at least good in battle and looked pretty cool.)
Who was the main character in FFVI? I would agree with Terra except she is hardly with you and for the second half of the game Celes seems to be the main character. I liked FFVI in the respect that you didn't just follow one story. That being said, Locke seemed to have the presence of a main character and although he sucked in battle he did have a certain charm about him that I liked.

The thing I liked about Squall and Cloud a little bit, were how deep they were. There was a lot they had to say, and I think you get into Squall's head more than any other main character in Final Fantasy. I mean, if you look at some of his quotes, he really was a good thinker, and definitely had great character art.
the BEST, more complex, and deepest character though, was hands down Delita Hyral, FInal Fantasy Tactics. Probably my favorite character of all time, he just tops anybody else

Godddd, I hated most of the main characters of the later FF's. D8 Cloud & Squall were all angsty and all dark and "slitslitslit". Tidus, Vaan, and Yuna are terribly terribly annoying, I hated the way their personality came off as really....cheesy? D8 Zidane was probably okay in my books, he's goofy but not in a cheesy way...entirely anyways.
I'd say my favourite would be Terra from FFvi. Something about her really charmed me....more so than Celes definately. D8 For some reason I saw Celes as a homewrecker, hahahaha.

Mine would have to still be Squall, his attitude and the way that his attitude changed through the complex story of FF8 is what I like best.
He was more as of the loner in the beginning with a strong desire to not want to rely on anyone for any purpose no matter what it might have been, I could really relate to him and I think thats what drew me in most of all.
A close second would have to have been Cloud...for some reason I felt like Squall and Cloud had alot in common although I could see there personia to be almost the same at times what I liked more about cloud though was his desire to help and never give up no matter what his past was.
I hated Tidus, and Vaan im still not sure but he falling more into the dislike box....

Had lot's of fun with zidane also

loved his tail

My Favorite main character would have to be Aries, because she was just so cuuuute!!!! Even though in the end she died...kinda sad really...It just makes me wanna go up to Sephiroth and kick him in the shins.

Well, I thought squall was pretty good. Cloud was kinda iffy. But, and I know I'm the opposite of you guys. I like Tidus, he was really cool throughout the whole story, maybe annoying at sometimes, but it gave the story a backbone... plus, his clothes kicked some ars.

I am gonna go with Locke because he is the type of character I have always hated (the thief/bum/"adventurer") and yet I like him. He shows a lot of integrity and shines even through in FFVI is hard with all the damn characters going on about.
Vaan sucks.

CLOUD is my favorite ff main character. i mean you have to give him props for carrying that huge sword around all the time. not to metion getting over a mental disablility and watching your home town being burnt down by your hero then having to kill him.
but he also has the best overdrive nothing beats omni-slash and then the ffac adaption to that final move and his sword getting an upgrade.

Well, it's between two characters, Cyan Garamonde and Steiner. Both are Sword-carrying beasts, one's more of a samurai, and the other's a knight. I especially love Steiner's character, concidering in the first two disks of FFIX he didn't know how to think for himself, a true knight indeed. Cyan's character reached me as well, oh well, it's either one. My other favorites are:
-Gau
-Basch
-Strago
-Yang

Cloud, although that's kinda typical. He has a major backstory, problem is he seems kinda like a bitch. But a crazy bitch, so it's alright.

I guess mine would be Cecil...He has the darker side that I love in a character, and doesn't go too over board with the whole 'I'm the hero here out of the way' sort of thing.

I'm very surprized it isn't Seymour.
Mine would have to be, between vivi and kuja. I can't really explain why for kuja, but vivi, what he does in his situations, I would do the exact same. So I'd say I like vivi cause he acts like I would in any situation.

For me it will always be Locke, he was the first RPG character I played as, first one I liked, and everything(FF6 is my #2 favorite game of all time). He just seemed so cool to me and he was actually pretty useful, he's my favorite RPG character too. He's always made me smile from when the game zooms in on him w/ his surprised look & he talks about being a treasure hunter instead of a theif.
Tied for second is Cloud, I just thought he was so cool in everyway, carried a big sword, and I loved his limit breaks a lot, it really showed of the Limit Breaks. Following him throughout FF7 just worked so well since he was heroic but still very new to the ways of the world.
The other #2 is Delita, talk about a complex character, he was very useful for the time you did have him in battle and I always felt bad for Delita n Ramza's connection, its very Shakespearean what Delita does, turn from your best friend take the princess as your own, and still conflicted in his head by the end of the game.

Wow! Too many Clouds and Squalls! Be original! There are more than like three characters in all of the ff games. My favorite would have to be Auron from FFx. I've always been partial to mystery (and the tank).

Hmmm as far as main characters go, definatly gotta be Terra. I mean she's had it rougher than any of the other main characters in the entire series as fars as I remember. She was taken in by the enemy as a child. Raised as a weapon. Lord only knows what they probably did to her while raising her. And then turned into a slave with the slave crown by Kefka only to be released and find out she's a freak of nature that no one ever really wanted except ehr parents. Thats harsh man.

This is for the MAIN character. Like, Terra, Cloud, Squall, Zidane, Tidus, Yuna, and Vaan. With opposition like Tidus, Yuna, and Vaan, it's little wonder that there are so many Clouds and Squalls.
I'm a Squall-person, definitely. While Cloud's new design is wonderfully appealing, Squall remains the best in my heart since he was done perfectly the first time.
I like Zidane, too, actually, though Tidus and Vaan can go disappear for all I care (one of them did! Huhahaha!), we don't speak of Yuna, and I haven't played enough of VI yet to really have an opinion of Terra, though I do like Locke.

What's with all the Vaan hate? Seriously, he's the perfect image of a seventeen-year old. Says his mind, is impulsive, sees the world simply without all its drama. Plus, he matures very fast, when compared to some of the other main characters.
Then again, FFXII doesn't have a "main" character. And technically, neither does FF6(3). The storie doesn't follow ONE person, it follows them all, and I couldn't really point out any of them as a main character. Although it leans a bit towards Terra in 6, it's still not as great and mighty as in alot of the other games.
