Yeah, wondered what everyone's favorite opening was. I liked them all but three had the best. Not really game content here, just rate it by the opening prz.

Suikoden III, hands down.
It is by far the most emotional song and best opening theme I have heard in a game so far, it is just so good.

Suikoden III, best song, interesting anime.
I'm actually REALLY upset of the intros in the new games, i think they're so crappy. They should go back to the animes from Suikodens and Suikogaidens

Seriously man, I have seen the intros to IV and V and cant help but ask myself what the hell were they thinking. I think that what really brings III's opening to life is how the vocals of the songs matches the anime, and also i'd be damned if that intro didnt made me want to start the game right as fast as I could, all the scenes looked so epic and grand it was just beautiful.

Yea.. Suikoden 3 by a long-shot

It's the one that stands out in my mind. I didn't really care much for the song at first, I found it annoying but now I like it. And the anime is great too.

Suikoden 2, Suikogaiden 1 & 2 and Suikoden 3 had the best openings. I don't have any favorites among them. Suikoden 1's opening had nice music though. But as for the new games, I don't like the openings.

agreed... when watching that opening, it just pumped me up to play the game. It ensured me that hey, this game is gonna rock, get ready for some fun.

Suikoden III was the best of the lot I believed, followed by Suikoden Gaiden I and II ^-^ Too bad the gaiden's never came to the states.

My sincere apologies Athrun. *bows*
The later openings are not bad, I just don't get the same feeling I did from some of the others. I liked V's better than IV.

I even forgot the music for Sui IV's opening. I only remember that I didn't like it much, so I guess that's a good thing. =p I haven't watched Suikoden V's opening much. (As I haven't played the game much. Only up to getting Lucrecia, but that was the Japanese version.) But it didn't feel special in any way. The others managed to give off a certain atmosphere that I can't find in the later games opening intros. I'm not sure why. Maybe they should start with the anime intros again.

III's was pretty great.
On my debug PS2, there are very rare times when--like a car in winter--you'll have to let it "warm up" before it'll play an actual game without freezing, and I almost always pick Suikoden III to open 'er up because of the quality opening movie.

well yes, it seems I share the same opinion as everyone else here. II was pretty good also, I remember it gave me shivers the first time I watched it, but it's just not as good as III. the song is great, the animation is great, and it does just what every opening should do-really inspire you to play the game.

I liked the 2nd's intro and Suikogaiden 1's intro. I can't pick wich is the best from those two. They both just give you emotional feeling when you see them. They get you right into the game.
The third's into has sloppy animation in parts and wasn't as appealing, 5's was cool, but there were some pieces (like the close up on the horribly looking eye of Freyjadour eye (Freyjadour is the hero's actual name), it just disturbed me, probrbly because it was very un detailed for something that was give such a close up shot)

Are you looking at diffirent endings than we do or something?
I have seen the intro to Suikoden V and III countless times and I never saw any of the points you mentioned.
Also, it was already known on this board what the name of Sui V hero was =P. Made a topic about it some time ago.

I just put that it was Suikoden 5's hero's name in case there are people who don't know, it lessens confusion.
As for where I saw glitches in 3, I'm an animation major, so I'm being taught to see things that non animators/animation majors probably wouldn't see (goes on the basis of the 12 principles of animation. I could sit here and pin point issues, but I don't want to ramble and I don't think it's very nessicarry) And for five, I basically stictly meant the eye issues. It creeps me out seeing it that close and it lacks definition and depth, what a normal eye has. It's more of a personal issue, which is what this thread is basically about, personal opinion.
The nature of the beast known as animation -there are always gitches and unappealing qualities. It can't be helped.

Personally my favorites were Suikoden Gaiden II and Suikoden III. I loved the music in both of them but I think Suikoden III was better (if I had to choose between the two) since it was longer, thus having more animation in it. I love the anime scenes.

Suikoden IV had the best music, and graphics, so I will have to give it to them.

Gonna have to join the majority here, and say Suikoden III. I fell in love with the song ("Aio Koete," I believe? According to the manual, anyway...) pretty much instantly, and I still love the anime animation. Was a bit upset that there weren't anymore past that, actually. ^^; I think the two pieces, amazing even on their own, meld together quite well to make a very intriguing and emotional opening sequence.

I'm a loser and choose Suikogaiden 1 and 2. Those are some of the greatest intros. Suikoden III is up there as well.

Suikoden III followed by Sui II, then Sui V. I'll always pause to listen/watch Suikoden III's opening, and I skip over the others very quickly.

I'm only unlucky enough to have seen Suiko V's opening... it's really not very good... Seeing all the character's portraits was pretty cool but the main part of it wasn't very good at all... The only thing i did enjoy was spotting random character in Sol-Felena that shouldn't have been there... The beginning doesn't really make sense... unless it's in an ending I havn't seen I don't understand why The prince and Lyon are fighting... And yeah, the weird eye which isn't very detailed but looks "Moist" wasn't very pleasent.

There's a part in Sui V's opening where there is a bouncy water droplet action... that one is actually nice. But the eye thing is very creepy. I wish they use the anime type of opening for future opening videos.

They are sparring. It is what I read somewhere.
Also, an opening doesn't really have to make sense, it could show anything. But that aside. I still think the eye looks good, plus the graphics of the opening. For some reason I like the style.

Yeah, I thought that maybe they were just sparring, it just seemed a little random. I guess they needed to show some action without revealing who the bad guys are. I loved the art style used in-game, but the cut-scenes and the opening looked really ugly... The music was really bland as well, I just thought the whole opening didn't really work aside from the fact that it didn't paticulaly make any sense either...

I rewatched all the openings at home before this post is made. lol
Yes, I agree with everybody else, it has to be III. III anime-ish opening is great, the animations are intense, it makes me want to play the game after the sequences ended. Typical of Tales series if you ask me. =)

It's a tie for me, mainly between II and III. II has a strong opening music, and the intro to it is just dark and it builds up to the middle for the rest of the opening. III has the anime-ish opening, and it too has a unique song playing in the background. However the worst has to be fourth, though I'm not sure considering that I have yet to play Tactics.

In my opinion - as much as I love the series, this is where Konami sucks bad at. None of the Suikoden intros were appealing to me. And Suikoden V has a slight spoiler in it. Suikoden III looked like some halfassed anime was quickly drawn, animated and then thrown in. Suikoden II was only larger versions of the characters portraits. Just me though.

I think I'll go for Suikoden II Opening, Admittedly not anime-ish than III bust how it was presented and the orchestra music bring life out of the SUikoden II Opening especially the part of Luca Blight. III is very entertainingt o watch at but I kinda back away from the background music - not my type of music I will listen every minute.

3 without question. The scenes, the music (what's the name of the song, I really really want it.) The anime...everything just kicked so much ass in my opinion. IF they ever made an actual Suikoden anime, they need to rehire the studio that did the opening for 3.
2 was pretty good too. Showed a lot of intresting things without giving away anything in the actual game...except the fact that Luca Blight was #####' insane. >.> It litterally spooked me when I saw him standing on that pile of bodies. I was like "oooooh holy crap...did he do that? PLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLEASE tell me I get him on my party and not fight him..." unfortunatly, I was wrong but it was still cool.
S4...it sucked. Song was nice though. Same with 5. 5's was better than 4's by a long shot but still not as nice as 3 or 2.

Well, you might want to check the opening for the second game, which is very good aswell and also the 2 openings for the two Suikogaiden games which are also very good.
They are most likely on youtube, so you do not need to look for it.
