I got bored waiting for the Wii so I looked through my closet. I found my Nintendo 64 and started playing some of my games. Right now I'm in the middle of Goldeneye 007, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and Mario Party 2. So, what classics do you remember when it was out?

I played a lot of Goldeneye 007 with my friends. Great game. I never got tired of the deathmatches. We figured out a way to split the screen so that others wouldn't see your screen and vice versa. Mario 64 and Zelda OOT and MM are also classics to me. Mario Kart was played religiously as well.

I have memories of Mario 64, Wave Racer, Golden Eye and Perfect Dark. Best being that Mario 64 was my first finished Mario game.

Against human players it's awesome.
We had this ice cream rule where if we were 5 players, the loser would hand over the controller and start eating from an ice cream pack. It got pretty melty and disgusting after a while though, so you really didn't want to lose.

Starfox 64, Jetforce Gemini (which I never fully beat) and Bomberman 64 were awesome games as well. Though I know a lot of people didn't like Bomberman but I did. It had an atmosphere to it that I hadn't seen in any other bomberman game due to how it was built up.

Nintendo 64 Started Nintendo's trend of only having 4 or so good titles on their system. Boo to that.
Anyway, my favorites:
Star Fox 64
Goldeneye
F-Zero 64
And I can't forget the almighty WCW Vs NWO. I hate Wrestling but that game was frickin' amazing. The combat system was most excellent and there were tons of different characters to pick from. I used to sit and play it for hours with a good friend of mine from back in the day.
And no, I won't mention Perfect Dark. I didn't like it.

so many good memories....
Mario Kart- unfortunately, the game just stopped working, but imo, the best mario kart ever
Mario 64-the start of games for me, this started it all
Zelda games- OoT is one of the best games ever made, sold MM, but I really have wanted to play it again lately
Smash Bros.- Fun game
Star Fox 64- Do A Barrel Roll!
I wasnt old enought to play 007 (according to my parents) unfortunately, and I also remember the game Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire being really fun, but I only rented that. And who can forget F-Zero X, another really fun game of my childhood....

I cant believe none of you have mentioned this little gem called Blast Corps, one of the most addicting and fun games i have ever played.

I would play it to this day but sadly my Memory Pack went useless about two years ago and you cant play without it at all, at least I dont think so as you need to save your profile and name before you can get into the first mission.
Also besides of most games already mentioned, I simply loved Banjo Kazooie, I have never had so much fun collecting useless crap. And Gruntilda was a tough bitch to crack if i ever saw one.

I never played Blast Corps or Banjo Kazooie. I tried them out for a bit I thinik, but nothing I remember now. I forgot to mention Star Fox 64, Perfect Dark (even though it's not as good as Goldeneye) and F-Zero 64.
There weren't that many great games for N64, but those few that were there were something special.

Ah yeah, Blast Corps, the first game I got for my N64. I remember setting my alarm for 5am the day after I got it, waiting for my dad to leave for work so I could play it before school.
If you think about it, its a pretty good game. I can't really think of another like it. How cool would a next-gen version be?

I remember playing Starcraft with my friend on N64. Man, how terrible that game looked on N64 compared to the computer. Let's just say I never looked back once I got the computer verison of Starcraft.
I enjoyed quite a couple of games for the N64. Mario Kart 64, Mario 64, Mario Party 1 and 2, Perfect Dark, Golden Eye, Zelda, Super Smash Brothers and likely more games I can't remember at the moment. It was a solid system with good library, but lacked in the RPG department, my genre of choice. The only RPG for that system that I can remember would be Quest 64.

It would be totally ##### sweet man, except it would be for xbox 360. Hell i might just consider getting one because of a new Blast Corps, and Bioshock which looks like its going to rule.

I liked Perfect Dark. For some reason I couldn't make it past the 3rd level, so I did a bunch of deathmatches with the computers! It was fun! And the target challenges were entertaining
Anybody play Quest 64? Everyone says it's good, but I hate it. OoT was a million times better. The battle system for Quest 64 was weird, and I didn't know how or where to save.

And I bought Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask just to be able to say I've got some of the original ones... and I have a gold cartridge Majora's Mask! I really like playing it

In the vein of bad N64 games I am gonna mention Deadly Arts

Now this game is bad, truly bad, I talked about it in the games that suck thread so i am just gonna go ahead and quote myself.
QUOTE
OHHHHHHHHH this game sucked. I picked it up as a christmas present, it was between this game and 1080º, i made the wrong choice. I figured in my good old 14 year old head that an anime inspired fighting game would be a more entertaining game than a snowboard one as I had never played a snowboard game before but have played plenty street fighter and SNK games so i said what the hell. I ##### up.
Lets break it down:
Graphics - 6
Acutally one of the things that caught my attention was the graphics the game had. This was my first 3d fighter ever and it was about 10 months before Soul Calibur finally did it right, so for an N64 in 98 the graphics where average, they are certainly the high point of the game. There are some clipping issues however and incredible problems with collition, which means sometimes you appear to hit an opponent but you dont. To make matters worse, as its 3d the camera is constantly moving to accomodate the fighter´s position and it goes behind walls with unrendered graphics which makes the game´s image seem cut and then it quickly goes behind you and then you get killed or smash buttons and win, or lose anyway.
Backgrounds are nice but they have a small variety of stages, like 5 or so including mountain lake, mountain, snow covered mountain, temple and factory.
Controls -3
BAD. Unresponsive as a bastard, you have kicks and punches and it takes less time to write this review than to actually see it in motion from the moment you press the button. So this thing is slow, like really slow, it takes momentum to build up a kick or punch and its just awful.
Music and Sound - 4
Some sort of japanese techno background with small bits of fighting sounds, nothing to hear here.
Gameplay - 4
Like i said in controls fighting is slow, like watching a rock get moved by a snail. You can pick between a small cliched roster of characters, around 6 or 7, and hope to get some enjoyment over their 3d models, blocky. Then there is one fun little thing in the game, create a fighter. Using some options you can create new characters to train and this is actually quite fun as you can go all out and make some silly looking fighter and think you are funny and be glad, save them onto the memory pack and then quit because the fighting in this game sucks.
Overall
I was a young spoiled little brat and made my grandpa buy me this crap for a good 100 bucks (i kid you not) or so, and i never told him i sold the game for like 20 a few months after and that i never liked his present because that would break his heart, so i was always trying to play it finding meaning to it. I just feel sorry to whoever made the same mistake I did.
Oh after this game, i started to read online reviews a lot, so in a way it helped me become a wiser gamer.

You are not a winner Shiho, with Deadly Arts everybody loses.

I dunno about "classics" but Zelda: ocarina of time was definately a favorite. I also remember mario 64, it was amazing! and...3D!
and my favorite harvest moon game was for that system. harvest moon 64(yay for original titles

My first N64 got stolen when I was 10, I don't remember exactly what I had on it, but I bought another (used, obviously) one later on.
I still remember playing:
Mario 64
Legend of Zelda: OoT (I didn't play Majora's Mask until it came out on the Gamecube)
Mischief Makers (This game was godly! <3 Easily one of my favorites.)
Cruisin' USA
Super Smash Bros.
Pokemon Stadium (thanks to this guy, I almost DID catch 'em all on Yellow. XD)
Goldeneye 007
Perfect Dark
Donkey Kong 64
Mario Kart
Star Fox 64
1080 Snowboarding (trying to make the characters crash as much as possible, mainly. Shh!)
I remember having one of the Castlevania games and got scared from it. I don't remember how, but my friend has it; I totally need to ask her if I can play so I can find out what the heck was wrong with me.
I mainly played multi-player on 007 or play around with all the cheats my brother unlocked. I sucked at that game, I always got owned in multi. Haha, I could only beat the game by overloading it with cheap cheats. I could get far on my own, but for some reason; it was very satisfying unless you took on a mission in which Invisibility renders it impossible to complete. :[
I may've had more games or played more, but I don't remember anymore. I do, however, remember going to my neighbors house and with their kids, we'd try and play Pilot Wings. That game was haaaard.
