His Dark materials is a trillogy made up for three books: Northen Lights, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass and is also in my oppinion the best Children's fantasy novel. Although it's fantasy, don't expect to see elves and dragons, it's more of a modern day fantasy book. The books were very deep and had dark undertones. There were some great issues risen but most of all quite an anti-christain theme. I just love the books a lot.
And now there is a film!
Nicole Kidman will play Mrs Coulter (which is a good thing IMO, Phillip Pullman chose her himself) and Daniel Craig will play Lord Astriel (which just doesn't seem right to me) and apparently there is a terrible director on board so this probably won't work..
Any thoughts?

Yah, I heard about this awhile ago... unfortunately I gave up reading the books since it just didn't interest me enough. =/
Nicole Kidman, I haven't seen act in awhile so I don't know how it would go but Daniel craig in this makes me want to see it even if he isn't right for the part xDD.

Hmm, I have not read the books, considering I barely read books anyway and I am not fan of either actor/actress, although Craig had some nice roles before though.
I might check this out, if I can see a trailer or so, who knows.

My biggest fear is that they make this too Kiddy... considering it's such a dark storyline that would be just plain terrible. All the characters are full of depth and suprise. The character relationships are so well done as well. I can't rave how much I love this series of books enough. But the film could go so very very wrong. They'll probably cut a lot of the anti-god stuff out as well sadly but the adventure itself would be enough.

I remember hearing some worrying things about them really cutting down on the religious element. It would cut the soul out of the story really the adventure is nice but the story would sorely lack without it, but hopefully they where unfounded rumours. Daniel Craig seems like a really odd choice too, guess he could work just not some one I would have thought off.

Big surprise. Hollywood has got their mits on another cult fantasy favorite trilogy and is aching to make a good 500m world box office to fill their pockets.
I know this is good news to fans, but it irks me when movies are strictly made for profit. I like it when good directors, actors, or what have you get together and try to push and idea they really like on Hollywood ... Be it a book or something of the like... Rather than Hollywood themselves being like " omfg letz make some more money "
That's just me though. I'm sure production quality and all of that will be top notch and that no doubt it'll at least be a reasonably decent film... I just don't like how it's come into creation.

I totally agree TED... it is just part of a fad to turn fantasy trilogies into films, but at least they have chosen a Trilogy of books that I really want to see as a film. I would like to defend it and say that there is more to this film but the bigwigs are just seeing money. I just hope Phillip Pullman stops them from making a terrible film. I also hope the first one is good enough and becomes popular enough for them to make the second and third films.

I also read the books and am looking forward to this film. However I do have my misgivings about it being...bad...But I really hope it's not, because I'm a fan of the books...I agree with TED and Flame..When Hollywood makes a movie for sheer profit, it's probably going to be nowhere near as good as a movie made through dedication like Jackson and LOTR (and that movie comes up again for me...) That's just my opinion though, and I hope this movie will not flop, because I'm looking forward to it...

Lols, I read The Amber Spyglass once, which was weird because it was totally out of order and I had no idea what happened in the first two, but I thought the books sucked balls. The little girl and boy were so annoying, I was glad that they....
ended up not being together anyways
So yeah, not too excited or whatever. Nicole Kidman would fit the part of Mrs. Coulter very well though, I would've imagined her exact look if I were to think of a movie for this.
