The Evil Dead
I'm sure there's a few Sin City fans here on the board... I thought the film was alright myself, and did enjoy the first two stories in the film but it didn't make a HUGE splash with me. Clive Owen totally ruled as Dwight and since he's going to be in the sequel I'm going to be bothering to see it in the theaters.

The horrible thing here is that Jolie is slated to play Clive's ex-girlie Ava ( Never read the series so I don't know too much about her ) and I think she's just too much star power for the Sin City film. I'd rather see an unknown, or maybe a more cult movie star play the roll.

She's not officially signed on yet, but from what I've been reading at this point it seems like it's pretty much set in stone that she'll be in the film.

I just don't like her myself and really think she's going to be out of place in the film... What do you guys think?

It was reported earlier this year that Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller were interested in Angelina Jolie playing a lead role in the sequel to Sin City. Jolie was pregnant at the time, however, which would push back production, and Rodriguez instead started filming Grindhouse with Quentin Tarantino. ComingSoon.net/SuperheroHype.com caught up with The Good Shepherd star to ask whether she is still up for playing the role of Ava in the anticipated second film.

"We talked about it and I read the comic," Jolie told us. "I don't think the film is being made at this moment. When it's actually going to be made I'm sure we'll talk about it.

"It was a funny thing, because the idea came to me when I was pregnant," she added. "So it was this idea... I've been Clover (in 'The Good Shepherd'), depressed and quiet, and then I was feeling very maternal, pregnant. It was this idea of this sexy, violent and loud [character]... I thought maybe after I'm pregnant it would be nice to do."

It sounds like Rodriguez and Miller have their Ava if everything works out. A start date for Sin City 2 has not been announced.

In the graphic novel, Ava Lord is the dame to kill for. She is an ex-lover of Dwight McCarthy (Clive Owen) who manipulates men through her good looks and her supposed innocence.

WHY!!!!!!

I loved the first one and now your going to ruin this one with a used to be good actress(hackers FTW!!).. *sigh*.. well ill see this because I was a fan of the first one.. but yes TED is right, an unknown would have worked better
Sasarai100
Jolie is the sex. Enough said. If she wants to look in place, she'd just have to pout her lips and stick out her taa-taa's. Honestly, I can't get enough of her. She is so damn fine. I'm not a huge fan, but I'll watch the movie since she's in it wub.gif wub.gif wub.gif
Voyou San
she looks good, yes.. but thats it.. her acting side to me is very sub-par and i think Mr. and Mrs. Smith officialy just made me dislike her more
Natsuki
As much as I like Jolie, I do actually think she'll be out of place in this movie. I really can't picture her to be part of anything to do with the movie. Alba fitted perfectly and Aoki was awesome in the first one as well, it's just that Jolie really doesn't come out as any character that may fit Sin City on my point x.x.

Someone like Mena Suvari might actually suit that part if they were looking for someone manipulative and innocent. xP
Hound
Her acting skills are indeed less than pleasureable, yet she still is mighty fine. I am very cautious in saying this so don't quote me on it, but I think she has a CHANCE at proving her skills (if any) in this film. She definitely has the "SIN" sensation and persona going for her.
Pesmerga
NOOOOO!!!

First of all, I do not like her in anyway, not in acting, nor as sex appeal and I can't understand what people see in her, cause she is mighty ugly, stupid lips that are almost bigger than her face and really..her face is blegh aswell.

Sin City was a great film imo and Clive Owen's story was very good and he placed a good role aswell, together with Marv. But her in the sequel...darn it.
Voyou San
she really looked the best in hackers, since then she has gone downhill.

and I agree with Nat, she just doesnt look like she fits at all for a Sin City movie
The Evil Dead
Well instead of breeding a new topic we'll throw this in here... Apparently Robert Rodriguez is very interested in having Johnny Depp aboard ( Supposedly he was to be Jackie Boy in the first flick but had other contractual obligations ) as well as Antonio Bandaras.

We shall see what happens...

Depp And Banderas Living In Sin City 2?
And Rosario Dawson's a dominatrix
Source: MTV

Now before we go any further, let's make one thing clear. Nothing is signed, sealed and delivered yet, so try to keep those heart palpatations under control. But Robert Rodriguez, talking to MTV about Sin City 2 (based on co-director Frank Miller's A Dame To Kill For), has suggested that Johnny Depp and Antonio Banderas could be joining the cast.

OK, take a deep breath, and maybe blow into that brown paper bag until you've stopped hyperventilating. Rodriguez is bandying Depp's name about for the lead character of Wallace, a brooding artist who spends most of the film in a drug-induced hallucination (see Hell and Back for more). We can't think what, in Depp's back catalogue, could have persuaded them that he could play such a role.

Depp was apparently a fan of the first tests shot for the original film, but was shooting The Libertine and couldn't join the cast (he was apparently in line for Benicio Del Toro's role as Jackie Boy). This time, Rodriguez is sounding hopeful that he'll be aboard.

Meanwhile, Miller and Rodriguez are also trying to find a role for Antonio Banderas, who's also a big fan. And given that Miller has already expanded Nancy Callahan's role in this prequel for Jessica Alba, don't be too surprised if they find a place for ol' Tony Flags. But equally, don't start putting up the bunting or blowing up the helium balloons until there's an official announcement.

Meanwhile, Rosario Dawson has been talking about her role, which apparently fills in the backstory between her character and Clive Owen's that was mentioned in the first film. She's also planning on wearing an even-skimpier costume and some sort of dominatrix mask, in the noble aim of being even more faithful to the comics. Gentlemen, may we recommend a cold shower and a brisk run to counteract those feelings of dizzyness currently assailing you.

Oh, good! I hope Depp joins. It'll give me even more reason to watch.
Razael
Jolie sucks, I havent enjoyed a flick with her since...I dont even remember.
Noir
Hackers? lol

They're putting too many well known actors in it, or at least it seems that way to me.
DxS
Well with this news, maybe they should rename the movie Once Upon a Time in Sin City.
Edgeworth
Oh yeah, I forgot about Jolie. I can't stand her, actually.
Razael
Yeah well Hackers of course, thats just implied. I meant anything besides Hackers.
Lost Seraphim
I really loved the first and its eclectic cast, but Jolie's presence kind of diminishes things a bit, for me at least. I'm not particularly fond of her, but I just haven't seen a starring film with her that I've been taken by. Depp... what can I say? It's Johnny. He's a huge force these days in cinema, and continues to put out movies and roles that I enjoy. He's certainly an enduring favorite of mine, but his involvement in the second film hasn't been confirmed, nor has a possible character role been mentioned, so I can't offer an opinion just yet.
Pesmerga
I really enjoyed the first movie and I agree with TED that Clive Owen owned in this movie and ever since this one (and King Arthur) he is on my list of favourite actors and I am curious to what his other roles are going to be.
I am not sure about Angelina Jolie in this film because I find her a terrible actress nor do I think she looks good in any way.

I can't say much on Mr. Baderas because I have hardly seen any movie with him and Johnny Depp is someone I don't think he is in his place.
I like him in the PotC trilogy and a few other films but I do not know what his role is going to be or what his story is going to be, I just have this feeling that I think he is out of place in a movie known for using lesser known actors.
Bubble
I agree completely. Sin City was a really good movie partly because the actors weren't well known so you didn't have one famous actor stealing all the lime light. I really do not like Angelina Jolie, I don't think she is a skilled actress at all and I have to say everything I have seen Antonio Baderas in I have not enjoyed either. (Apart from Shrek 2, but pfft who doesn't love that movie =P).

Johnny Depp is a pretty good actor. I really love him in Pirates of the Carrabean, though he is now quite type-cast for movies with similar roles. I would really like to see him branch into a role completely different just to see, but I don't think Sin City is suited.
Red_ryaN
going slightly off topic, why the hell does everyone think Angelina is so hot/sexy?

i actually think she's really gross, yet all my friends look at me like I'm crazy, the only thing that is attractive about her is her personality imo

anyways, i loved the first sin city movie... but sequels usually end up bad
Kronik
Oh Hollywood. How many times have we done this dance? You make a good movie so you make a sub-par sequel and then if that's not enough you put A-list celebrities to bring the flick quiality down so we're only focusing on the actor we like. Not the events or story line. Jolie would most definately stand out. Depp would by a syst latching onto this movie. Banderas? Well, Banderas can actually fit the role. He's been in Rodriguez films before. Though he is getting old. Kinda like Stallone doing Rocky. Neh, all I can hope for is savage kills and epic moments.

"I took away his weapons, both of them."
The Evil Dead
Thought I'd post another casting update... It would appear that Angelina Jolie is out due to scheduling conflicts ( Thank god ) and Rachel Weisz ( Evie from The Mummy flicks ) is in. I'm a huge fan of Weisz and I think it'll be interesting to see her in the role of Ava Lord because I know she can play a pretty coldhearted biatch ( Watch The Shape of Things )

It's some old news... But I thought I'd keep people posted

Jolie Out, Weisz In For Some "Sin"
By Garth FranklinWednesday January 17th 2007 1:27am
For a while now it has been pretty much accepted that Robert Rodriguez has wanted Angelina Jolie as the star of his sequel to "Sin City" sub-story 'A Dame To Kill For'.

Scheduling conflicts have prevented it though and caused enough delays that according to a rumour over at Cinema Blend, Jolie has been ousted in favour of British babe Rachel Weisz.

The site, which clearly indicates that this is unconfirmed, says Rachel is in talks with Robert Rodriguez's people about taking on the role of Ava Lord. If locked then shooting on the project would begin early 2008.
Voyou San
whew, there is a relief
Hugo
I think it's funny that people don't want Angelina Jolie because of her "star power" but would love to have Depp in the movie. Makes no sense.

I mean I agree, Jolie out, Depp in. Depp is in my opinion the best actor alive today, he makes any move better. Clive Owen is the man, and will emerge as a big star here in the upcoming years.

I enjoyed the first film, and I'm sure I'll enjoy the sequel.

She is a good looking woman, I have no idea how anyone can say otherwise. There is plenty to be attracted about her with, like those fabulous DSLs, very superb bosom area, nice asss, great eyes. When she's dressed up she has a real classical kind of beauty.

Bottomline, if you had the opportunity to sleep with her, would you? Yes, enough said.

difference is Johnny Depp is a good actor, Angelina is not really a good actress(cept hackers!).. I didnt want Angelina in there because I just do not like her acting and though she would do bad for the movie. Depp on the other hand I think will only help the movie be better
Hugo
I think she is a fairly good actress *shrugs* I've enjoyed quite a few of her films. Just me I guess.

I was just pointing out that both of them have "star-power" and so saying she shouldn't be in it because of that, but favoring Depp, well it made no sense tongue.gif

Jolie and Depp suck equally and I only found Jolie to be attractive in Cyborg 2.

Would I sleep with her? Of course... But I'd sleep with a lot of women given the chance ( Insert cheap shot here ). Is she in like my top 100 or something? Definitely not.

I think her acting is the suckage and her rise to fame a total larf. I never found her entertaining or intriguing to watch in any of her films so I can most definitely understand the opinions of those who dislike her and wouldn't want to see Jolie featured in this movie.

ehhh probably not actually, she's a buther face... her lips are huge, and always cracked. and her eyes like bulge out of her head like my friends Pomeranian dog... I'm not trying to put her down at all.. even tho I'm definitely personally attacking her.. im just stating my opinion of what i dont find attractive about her, but god knows im one ugly sob haha

anyways.. back on topic.. sin city2.. cant wait..well i can.. but w/e

I've read through all 7 graphic novels and while reading the final one "Hell and Back" i couldn't get the idea of Depp being in the movie adaptation of that story, he looks exactly like him, and his character is so much like the parts he usually plays.

And as for Angelina Jolie as Ava Lord, I don't know why they casted her as that originally, she looks absolutely nothing like her, I could see her acting like Ava, but there are probably better people out there, hopefully they casted the right person for this movie because "A Dame to Kill For" was my least favorite Sin City story.
Dragon Brigade
I think Rachel Weisz being cast instead is a good thing. I think she's a better actress than Jolie anyway, so it's good she's in and Jolie's out. Anyway, as far as the movie itself looks, it looks to be good.
