What films are just a nessecity to watch over christmas? I personally rely on films to get me in the christmas mood. And yes, this is a silly and childish topic, but ya gotta love it...
The Santa Clause - I can't help but love this film. It's the perfect amount of cheesyness just to warm my christmas heart. Although I never saw either of the sequels...
The Muppets Christmas Carol - T_T This film is the closest I can generally watch to a period drama. Muppet films that adapt and parody books just seem to work. For a muppet film it really wasn't annoying and they sucessfully managed to get you emotionally attached to peices of cloth... <3

Any more? (I can think of a few but I'll leave it here for now)

I sometimes watch Home alone on TV, and a movie where Arnold Schwarzenegger is the main actor. I dunno, how it's called, but I remember something about him buying an action figure for his son. And in the end he disquised himself in some action hero costume and beat some bad guy.
Gosh, I'm terrible at remembering movies

Besides the ones listed:
A Christmas Story
The Christmas Carol (Both origonal and disney version)
and
The Grinch Who Stole Christmas (Animation FTW)
Not quite classics but more interesting than most.
The Evil Dead

I think you're all forgetting the most essential christmas film of them all:

I don't like Bill Murray movies anymore... But back in the day when he did films like Scrooged and Groundhog day he was truely amazing. He had that awesome sarcastic wit, and jaded outlook on life when he did most of his characters and honestly it really reminded me of how I look at things sometime.
Basically Bill is a rich and jaded ad exec for a big company ( Er something like that, been a year since I've seen it ) gets visited by some VERY interesting versions of the ghosts that visit the original Scrooge, and basically learns about the spirit of christmas again.
This movie is a great and original take on the whole Scrooge story and totally kicks ass. I know they play it every year on a few cable stations like TNT so if you're around a TV this holiday, tune in because it's a kickass film.

Lols I usually don't watch the x-mas movies on TV, but I do have this one x-mas video I like to watch every year since I was a kid. It just features a lot of random short movies of random x-mas events. It's freaking crazy with the old-ass animation, but that's what makes it fantastic!
Oh, and whenever I can catch it, I'd like to watch The Nutcracker (animated and ballet) on TV. 8D Yeaaaa-aaahh.

I myself personally don't like watching Christams movies, but my parents usually watch: White Christmas, A Christmas Carol, Home Alone 2, It's a Wonderful Life, Borrowed Hearts, and The Santa Clause....I don't like any of those movies...but whatever...

It's A Wonderful Life - Just pure brilliance around Christmas time. Jimmy Stewart worked wonderfully.
Scrooge - Bill Murray depicting the role of a modern "Scrooge Hum-bug". NICE.

Yeah as sentimental and ##### as that movie is I've been watching it with my family since I was a kid so I guess I have a soft spot for It's a Wonderful Life. Plus the way Stewart talks is freakin' leet.

Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964)
I watch it every Christmas since I have it taped. I really like how the animations were done and of course the voices and narration.

Christmas movies... Well, I guess the only ones that comes to mind would be the home alone series. Although it pretty much went down hill for me after 2 =/.
Home Alone just wasn't the same without Culkin xDD, 3 wasn't bad and I never got around to watching 4 since I heard it was bad.
Neverending story? Meh, not really a Xmas movie but it tends to come on at this time and I love watching it xP. And of course, there's the Nutcracker ballet which I love ever since I remember being in a play playing one of the kids from the story xD. Christmas Carol and oh, The Snowman rocked xP
