The Evil Dead
When I first heard about this film about a month ago I was a bit skeptical. First of all it's a remake of one of the very first slasher films ever created, and secondly I was very concerned that they may give it a PG-13 rating in order to boost ratings... Which is what they've been doing with horror movie remakes these days.

I'm not only pleased to report that it's going to be rated R, but there's going to be some of my favorite Hollywood ladies in it. Michelle Trachtenberg ( From Eurotrip ), Lacey Chabert ( She used to be the little girl in Party of Five, did the Lost in Space movie, and a lot of direct to video titles... She's a hottie ) , Mary Elizabeth Winstead ( From Final Destination 3, she's awesome ), round out the mostly female cast. I think it's great because EACH of these girls have huge potential to become scream queens, especially Winstead.

My favorite part about this film is that it's debuting christmas day! I'll be with my family most of the day, but they usually like to go see some christmas movie or other that's out in the theaters at that time... but not this year... Finally I'll have a really awesome movie to enjoy at christmas time.

Anyway, I'm hoping for lots of blood ( The previews make it out to be that way and the original was fairly violent ) some scream queen action, and even more blood. The trailer makes it out to be a very gory film with some very interesting moments ( Christmas shaped flesh cookies anyone? ) Here's the information as I have it , and a trailer.

I believe this should be some good times at the movies.

Finally a smart investment in the movie industry. We\'re not all cheers and beers for Christmas as commercials make us seem. Or maybe we are. But that\'s no excuse to release the crappiest movies around Christmas and Halloween. (Goddamn PG13 #######).

A Black Christmas sounds like the most promising movie this year. I\'m all for it.

I might see it. My dad want to go to theaters for his X-mas present. We still haven't seen SAW III, not much for going to theaters. If it's not in, I'll suggest he wait until this movie out. From the trailers being aired on TV I've seen, it looks we're going to be treated to some good killing and horror.

Now that's what I call christmas spirit. I'm SO gonna watch it. Thanks for the info biggrin.gif

Trachtenberg and Winstead? ALRIGHT, I sure as hell would enjoy seeing those two hotties. The chick from Lost in space? I dont know, havent seen anything with her, or maybe I have and didnt know, I'll check out imdb.

But I am sold on Winstead, now thats one sexy chick, I think she is also going to be on Grindhouse, we certainly need to see more of this gorgeous brunette.

From the babes to a slasher, epic, I havent seen the original but sorority and horror flick translates to a lot of "scary" parts with girls in underwear.

EDIT: Holy #####, Chabert is the chick from Mean Girls, and also the handjob chick from not another teen movie, three babes awesome.

Bah. It will probably turn out to be a huge success in the box office, but I have no interest in it. Trachtenburg was good in Eurotrip, but nothing really impressive. And Winstead! Bah, I have never heard of such crap. She may be able to scream, but that only enlarges her ability at being the annoying woman she is. She should probably stick to B rated material like "Sky High." As for Lacey Chabert "whistles"...that's enough said.

What about a B movie slasher coming out on christmas says " huge success " to you? If anything I think it'll be in theaters for 2 weeks and be done with. I'd be surprised if it hits more than 10 million opening weekend, or has a bigger boxoffice than 30 mil. And that's probably what the studio is hoping for.

So what about this movie doesn't scream " B rated material "? Because it looks like a fairly standard B slasher to me. In fact, it's a remake of one of the first slashers ever created.

Yeah, I decided I'll check it out on X-mas after we're done with the family business.

Lol, become a huge success? Yeah, that's not going to happen.

it wont play for long at all.. i give it a week, mabye 2.. but i think it will have good rental sales

I don't think it's in christmas spirit, this is a movie for halloween. nocomment.gif

I think this movie has promise, and I will eventually go see it sometime after Christmas has passed. The gore looks uncomprimising, and the whole idea of a sick hellacious Christmas ordeal really makes me jolly. There is something delightfully perverse about a horror flick that dements one of the happiest times of the year for most people. And I'm sure that the hot chicks will be a worthy constellation too.

I suggest that all creatures of night take notice.

Shockingly enough the 10:45pm showing my friends and I were aiming for was sold out. I don't think the same could be said for the rest of the showings during the day because everyone was doing christmas crap... But I suppose many people our age ( That's what the huge crowd for the lines at the AMC represented ) thought that seeing a slasher on christmas would be a bloody good time.

I'll be seeing it tomorrow night for sure. I'm kinda bitter it was sold out but I guess I didn't think there'd be much of a showing for it.

I'm gonna have to check on the box office for this film next week because I'm pretty much eating my words mentioned earlier in this thread. Then again this was the only theater out of the few of 11 in our city playing the film so that doesn't leave people with a lot of options to go see the film.

My guess is that it'll have a strong opening night but wont see more than 2 weeks in the big theater though.
Eva
I did see the movie yesterday. You're in for a teacher for a lot of gore and good eyeball gouging and eating. I vastly enjoyed the movie. It's your typical horror movie that felt pointless, but that's what you get. You'll get to check out a lot of sweet killing. It didn't disappoint, at least for me.
The Evil Dead
That's what I wanted to hear Steve. I wasn't thinking it'd be anything scary or groundbreaking. All I wanted from the film was some solid blood and gore from a new slasher and from what you've said it looks like I have that in store for me.

Sweet.

EDIT: I just got back from the theater and I'll say that the film met my expectations. There's no plot and the dialogue is stupid but the girls and gore make up for the lack of the said plot like any good slasher does.

Eyeball gouges, stabbing, ice skate kills, eyeball eating, cookie cutter cutting flesh to make flesh cookies, one pair of boobies, 3 screaming starletts, incest, impalement, beheading and more await you in this wonderful tongue in cheek slasher that doesn't do much but follow your basic slasher set up that was defined by the original movie of the same name.

You can't really blame the film from following such a formula since it's basically based on one of the big daddy's of all slashers. Most movie goers will be turned off by this and may find this film to be a bit silly while yelling at the moronic moves made by the gang on screen. When it's based on the film that created this strange slasher rules though you can hardly fault it.

My only gripe is with the killer set up... But I wont spoil anything and really get into it.

If you're interested in a film with some good kills, some good looking up and coming starletts like the previously mentioned Trachtenburg, Chabert and Winstead or are a slasher genre fan this is your movie. All others stay far, far away because you're not going to enjoy it in the least.

I gotta pull an X-Play and give it a 3/5 ... Corpses.

No way. I don't like watching pretty women die. >_<; And lolasuran sleep.gif;
