The Evil Dead
Alright, as I explained to a few people the other night in chat my roommate got ahold of a Wii for his family for christmas. As it turns out, so did his dad so now we've got a freakin' Wii on our hands. Now even though I've told my roommate numerous times that if I Wii ended up in our house, I'd be throwing it out the window without hesistation. I've practiced patience and I'm trying to give the system a chance. We've got the Excite Truck Game, Red Steel, Metal Slug Anthology, Madden and Farcry.

But how can I give the thing a chance when a game like Farcry, that has a graphics engine that's nearing 3 years old now, looks like Goldeneye 64? Not only that but the sound quality is horrible, and the game is just a total insult to the series. The embarassing Farcry on the 360 is worlds above this title and that's saying a hell of a lot. AI? What AI? Rage mode? Yeah it'd be nice if it functioned properly. We've had a couple freezes during rage mode and it never seems to be able to be pulled off effectively.

Does the Wiimote make an FPS title fun? Sure I'll give the Wiimote props. It's kinda like having a lightgun and makes aiming a little easier than using analogs once you get it down. I'll still take a mouse, but the Wiimote definitely makes FPS titles more interesting. However the Wiimote alone can't save this title.

Anyway, this is an embarrasment and I'm sure there's some good titles for the Wii, but this certainly isn't one of them. The whole thing seems like one big joke, and the jokes on Wii.

Oh yeah and 10 bucks for Mario 64? GTFO. /ot

I wouldn't be surprised if the first great FPS that the Wii will get ends up being Metroid Prime 3 no matter how many FPS titles comes before that. I'm reading that Red Steel is not much better either, and I think AI played a huge factor to that as well. Or lack of actually. From what I heard Zelda is the best game you can get for the Wii at the moment. Though Trauma Center seems good as well.

So question, he got Madden for the Wii right? Is there actually any advantage the game takes of the Wiimote? If you had to use the controller to throw of the ball around or something that would be neat. But as far as EA Sport Games seem to go, it's seems you might as well always get them for the most powerful system you have, since I can't imagine them taking advantage of the Wiimote too much.

Yes, you do weird things with the Wiimote to control in Madden. I haven't played it myself, but my roommate says offense is really fun to play with the Wiimote but defense is next to impossible.

Also I'm starting to dislike the Wiimote for FPS titles a little more ( At least FC and Red Steel ) ... It moves around more like a 3D mouse than a lightgun like I think it should. The reticle glides from one area to another based on your movement, and I think it'd be way better if it had a way to be detected like a lightgun to you can aim it at the screen and just fire.

It's a little better than analog, not great like I claimed after playing a couple more hours.

What happened to all the Wii support? I'd figure I'd have gotten a few more replies from all these people who were going balls over the Wii a couple months back.

farcry has never been a good game, so I dont know why people thought that would change on the wii.... And from what ive seen, I dont see much difference playing zelda on the wii and the cube, same difference..Now I never actually played Farcry on the Wii but I saw someone playing it and have talked to some of my lesser friends who purchased a wii, I hear the same things that TED is going on about.. But I think this is to be expected... Wii and really nintendo does not have the power to do the FPS thing right. Now if you want a mario party/smash brothers experience, or something you can play while hammered and you dont know the difference, well nintendo is your man and can give you those things, its one of the few things they do right, but FPS is not one of them.. Im sure the wiimote adds some excitement, but that excitement cant get you past #### design and poor AI..

and 10 bucks for Mario 64?? dont make me laugh, thats ridiculous..I got that game and I can say it didnt cost me 10 bucks, thats a rip..

but I dont want this to become a wii trashing tread..so just pay most attention to my farcry comments smile.gif

I dunno about all of that dude. The original when it first came out had a revolutionary graphics engine that was hailed as the next big thing for quite some time. The enemy AI was pretty top notch and the game included an AI autobalance feature that was fairly new for it's time. It was a very solid FPS experience with a beautiful environment and some pretty killer multiplayer. The PC version is the best of them all, and most ( If not all ) review mags and sites have a similar opinion as well as most FPS fans. In fact if I remember it got game of the year in several PC mags ( Or at least nominated ).

It's spawned numerous ports, sequels to those ports on two different console systems and got Crytek into action. They're an excellent development company and are going to be bringing us the next big thing in the FPS world, Crysis.

Sadly I don't think they really had much to do with this console port, as I think Ubisoft Montreal did all the ports... At least I know they did the Box versions, and I'm pretty sure they worked on the Wii Versions.

Your entitled to your opinion of course, but calling Farcry a bad game is like calling Halflife or Halflife 2 a bad game.

I mean, I know we all hate IGN but lets take a loot at these reviews for the different versions.

PC: 9.2/10 ( Practically no complaints at all )

Xbox ( FarCry Instincts and Predator ): 8.3/10 ( with a few complaints )

Wii: 4/10 ( Which even the article states clearly before it begins that " Proof that Graphics Matter " )

the original, while it was revolutionary at its time, is no where near the same as half life 2.. I believe half life 2 is far superior.. I played farcry on the pc, it was decent yes, but really not worth the hype that so many have put on it. And I dont know about using IGN, yes sometimes they do make good decisions and I enjoy reading their reviews, but this is also the place that gave FFX-2 a 9.5 out of 10. So trust some of it, not all of it.. But it is just my opinion. I just dont see it as that great of a game and the ports are even worse
The Evil Dead
I was saying that not giving it props is like not giving HL1 or 2 Props.

These are all for the PC version

I know PC gamer rated it extremely high but they don't have the game logged on their site

They don't have a wii review up... But even Nintendo Power gave it a 4/10. It was listed on Gamespot that both IGN and Nintendo Power gave it the same score.

I mean reviewers don't always know their #####, but the general consensus so far is that Farcry for the PC is the #####, the X-Box version is pretty durn good, and the Wii version is a total insult to the series.

i see what you meant, forgive my misunderstanding..

so is there anything redeeming about the game at all? for wii that is
The Evil Dead
It kinda reminds you of playing N64 FPS titles so it brings back a sense of nostalgia... Then you realize you're playing a game from 2006 and you get kinda bitter about the fact that you spent 50 bucks or whatever on game that really doesn't bring much more to the table than those old N64 games you could buy for like 5 bucks.
