so im just curious, i saw TED in another topic talking about mario 64 being 10 bucks to play on the wii, so what are the princes like for most of the other games? Are they all around that 10 bucks range, are there some that even top that?
Athrun
I think all N64 games are 1000 wii points.
You buy 2000 wii points for $20 if I'm not mistaken.
SNES and NES games cost a bit less. Not sure about the actual numbers.

Virtual Console Prices
Players buy Virtual Console games with Wii Points, which are similar to Xbox Live Points. Wii owners can purchase Wii Points online through the Wii Channels interface or, alternative, they can purchase Wii Points Cards at various videogame retailers. For $19.99, players receive 2,000 Wii Points. NES games start at 500 points or $5; SNES start at 800 points or $8; and N64 start at 1,000 points or $10. Pricing structures for Genesis, TurboGrafx-16 and MSX games have not yet been made available, but they are likely to be similar.

And now this: You owe me 10 Raz points Voyou, I bet its really ##### sweet to just sit around, have a question and instead of doing hard investigative research on your own post it on the forums and wait for an answer, lazy bastard.

10 Raz points equal 100 dollars and you can purchase them at Toys R Us or at your nearest Olive Garden, i could just receive a benjamin but why should i make it easy for you, i am taking the nintendo way.

Seriously, would it be just better than the games were charged directly into real currency rather than damn points?

I think he means that $10 is too much for an old N64 game, that you most likely already own.

im so sorry raz, next time ill do research, that way i wont have to make a post about it, I mean its not like this place needs anymore posts, what was i thinking?.. ohboy.gif

I wasnt addressing any of the previous points, I was just saying that I think its annoying to have to buy points when you could just buy them directly, I see no need for two transactions to get one product.

It would be less of a annoyance if you would get bonus stuff by using the system, incentives to forget that you are going through unnecessary trouble.

On the other hand, 10 bucks for an N64 game is indeed a bit much, you can find Rogue Squadron for like 3 bucks on bargain bins. That is unless you get rid of consoles.

Well how would you pay for the games? In the game stores? And then they give you a code to download the games online or something?

I do it all the time. Why should I bother looking when I can ask it here and someone will be more than happy to answer the question for me?

I think what Raz is saying Atty if I'm reading his post correctly is why don't they just charge currency for each product instead of charging with a point based system. I'm kinda with him but I guess the point system makes enough sense.

The same way you buy the points only instead of getting points you isntantly get the games. Spend 10 bucks on a game just like you would do on Amazon or whatever. You cant act like this idea is new, its simple, you just buy the game, you dont buy points and then the games, this aint chukie cheese's and also i think thats how sony will be handling downloads. I think, but i dont know.

As for store cards, yes, you could get certificates, they can be used online. This also is not new.
Voyou San
what else can you use the points for? oops.gif , please forget the question i just asked, ill go look it up instead, I dont want to get the horns haha.gif

Too late ####

She is small but she mean.

Anyway, to answer your question, nothing else, at all, at least right now. I dont know and have not read anything indicating what else they can be used for. I vaguely remember this thing about some games having donwloadable content but maybe its one of those things my head tends to make up.
Voyou San
yea points just does seem kinda pointless. You pay for points, then use points to pay for items.. Why not take out one step and just pay straight up for the download..oh well, the world is crazy!! I mean 10 bones for a 64 game, 5 for an NES and 8 for an SNES, thats mad stupid prices..what a rip

Yeah and let's see how long you're able to play it without it freezing up becausse you tug on the controller wire, accidentally budge the console, or for no reason at all. I've had freezing problems with most cartridge games I can remember. And for some of my favorite games, or games I never played, I'd gladly pay 5-10 dollars for an updated version that runs smoothly with no freezing. No to mention that some games may have new features or online play as I understand it.

I'm guessing since you don't own a 360, you've never used a system like it. It's not like you have to go through many steps to finish transactions. I haven't used Wii's service yet, but on Xbox Live it's fairly simple. They hold your registered credit/debit card number that you used when first activating your XBL account, and when looking for games to buy/download, you can pop up a screen to add points with the touch of the X button. Just select the amount you want and it's charged to the card already registered, meaning no bothering with re-entering the account number. Or of course there's the option of buying the cards in stores and redeeming the codes. And the points appear instantly, so there's no delay on that. All in all it's a relatively simple process that I've never really had a problem with.

And it's not as if this is anything new. Most companies prefer to seperate these transactions in similar ways. Pre-paid cell phones for example... You have to buy the card in a store, call the number, enter your number, and enter the pin number to the pre-paid card. All that instead of actually purchasing minutes directly. There's probably good reasons it's done this way, and I really don't see it as much of an inconvenience in the long run.

It'll cost people in the UK £15 for 2000 points... which in my oppinion is far too much, however, I think it ends up being cheaper than in america when you work out the exchange rate. Even so £7.50 for every N64 game is pretty hefty... and the rest you can get for free on Emulator...
Athrun
I just read that the original Mario bros. for NES costs 500 wii points...
Overpriced?

http://wii.qj.net/5-new-Virtual-Console-ti...pg/49/aid/76950

New games for the Virtual Console:

Street Fighter II: The World Warrior
Super Castlevania IV
Toe Jam & Earl
R-TYPE
The Hero of Time
NES: 500 Wii points
SNES: 800 Wii points
Genesis/MegaDrive: 800 Wii Points
Turbo Graphix: 800 Wii Points
N64: 1000 Wii Points

$1 = 10points

Gunstar Heroes for MegaDrive is genius and a bargain for $8. BUY IT NOW. Some games are overpriced. Mario 64 for $10... I already have that game on my N64 AND my DS. Enough is enough Ninty. laugh.gif

But, nostalgia and availabilty plays a part too, and you cant put a price on nostalgia. Like I say above, $8 for GSH is a fair price, because I loved that game and its hard to find.
The Evil Dead
I remember DLing Gunstar Heroes to my computer for free. Now that's genius.
The Hero of Time
But you're a cheapskate.

Plus there is something to be said for playing on a massive screen, sat on your sofa and using a controller. I guess you could hook up your PC to your TV and have a pc compat controller...but how many people have that setup? laugh.gif
Voyou San
for x-mas i got my friend 4000 Wii points and with that he purchased..

Ice Hockey
Bonk's Adventure
Golden Axe
Bomberman
Castlevania 2
Military Madness

now I dont think this combination of games is really worth 45 bucks

I could have that set up, my roommate has it in his room. We have a fileserver hooked up to his 40 inch LCD Samsung TV. I don't have that set up in our livingroom though but it's not like it'd be impossible to do. All you need is TV out on your video card and a PC.

I have a logitech controller for my vaio laptop in my livingroom which works just fine. I don't really care that it's not on any of the HD TV's. It's free, and I'm willing to sacrifice a larger screen for my laptop screen which is just as good as far as I'm concerned for gaming since it's right in my face.

My 19inch LCD monitor and computer chair with a logitech is just as good if I'm in my room also. I'm a PC gamer first and foremost and so I guess I'm used to playing on a computer anyway.

It's just as good to me, but if you want to legally own and pay for a virtual copy of a game and play it on a larger TV without having to hook up a PC then that's cool enough. Just not what I'd do.

Its just you....bitch.

I game in my bedroom and its not that big, so from where i control ##### is my desk chair which is directly in front of my tv which enables me to watch tv while i am at the computer and I dont really feel that weird playing games on my laptop in the screen department (i still havent gotten a pad so it is weird to use the keyboard), sure it would be best to use a screen and I am probably going to look for some Neo Geo or Mame emulators for the dreamcast. People put all they want for the DC, I have a Genesis and Nes emulator, they kick ass, although Sonic 2 doesnt have sound.
Athrun
My bed is right in front of the TV so I lay down on it with some pillow support for my back and neck when I play games usually.
Eva
I play a NES game on my Dreamcast. I'm not a fan of playing on my computer either. I prefer my game on my TV, which would be why I need to obtain a video card for my computer in the near future. Though, I have every NES game on a CD for DC. I doubt I would be buying a NES game on the Wii.
