Some new info on RE5 after a long silence.

QUOTE (qj.net)
We haven't smelled any decaying Umbrella Corp. corpses for quite some time now. Capcom might be going all hushy-hushy on us about Resident Evil 5, but worry you not. Jun Takeuchi just spilled some zombie juice on the much-awaited sequel, and it's anything but decaying corpses.

He's pitching that this next RE installment that's coming out for both the 360 and PS3 could only possibly be available by 2008. "Ouch," you might be saying. That really is a long wait, indeed. However, the wait could just be worth it. Takeuchi states that Capcom wants the picture rate to run on 60fps. Lovely.

The engine they're using makes it possible for them to produce realistic facial expressions and animations. They're even boasting of some good hair days for the characters as each strand of hair would be modelled from root to tip!

Takeuchi reveals that RE5 would have more interactive environments this time around - much more interactive than its predecessors. More than this, he even hints that hot and cold temperatures would play a crucial element in the gameplay. The temperature of your surroundings would supposedly determine your character's stability.

Sounds cool. Especially that thing about the hair. It's about time we started seeing some realistic hair.
They can take all the time they want with this game. I was very happy with RE4, and I hope this one turns out just as good. Hopefully even better. And I hope they give you more than one playable character with different paths through the same story, like in RE 2 and the PS2 version of RE 4.

hair things sounds interesting but really, who cares.. give me some updated gameplay and thats fine with me, a characters hair means very little.. same with facial expressions.. or atleast thats what i think.. I say put your time into making the gameplay even better which is tuff because 4 was awesome..

I think that goes without saying voyou. The visuals are just extra, but still a nice touch I think.

that hair thing sounds like their stealing the physics of Aquaman's golden mullet. wink.gif

'08, huh? gives me time to save up for a PS3 when the price falls. tongue.gif

Welcome to this generation of technology Capcom.

Finally, some companies are starting to take advantage of the hardware they can make use of. There shouldn't be a problem getting games to run at 60fps on the PS3 and 360 if you've got a proper game engine to run off of.

I don't really care for the RE series but I'm interested to see what Capcom is going to offer us with the 5th one. The 4th I felt was a step in the right direction so hopefully Capcom ups the ante a bit more with the next installment.

Thank you again Capcom for joining this generation of technology. Let all other console developers follow suit.

Once I played HL2 for the computer on high settings at 60fps on an LCD monitor I realized how great graphics have become... Realistic facial movements on well developed graphics engines look so real is crazy. Also having a great physics engine like the Havok physics engine ( which a lot of games are using these days ) makes gameplay even more enjoyable.

I think this RE could turn out to be pretty sick.

I dunno... I'm really not a fan of waiting as long as an extra year for games if it's mostly due to graphic improvements. As much as I like the idea of seeing the blackheads on Leon's face and the dandruff in his hair, games are taking longer and longer to come out... But I guess they'll most likely be cooking up enhancements in gameplay along with it, or I'd hope. Wouldn't surprise me to see a badass multiplayer mode to go with it... Since RE4 and Gears of War are incredibly similar, I think it's likely. Co-op at the very least, but Deathmatch would be cool too.
Voyou San
i would love to see the game use some of what Splinter Cell and Metal Gear use.. Where your character interacts a lot more with the environment and stuff like that.. Plus a co-op campaign similar to Chaos Theory would be a great add..
Rubedo
Sounds great and all, but at least they should have not keep every in the dark for this long about who's the main character this time? I mean is it really Chris or is it someone new just to throw cans at? At least something storywise, not graphical wise since it's going to look stunning never the less.

That's Chris, but they didn't say if he is the main character of the game or not.

I'd be extremely surprised to see that.

You know, heaven forbid they take their time to code a decent graphics and game engine JD. I know it's going to take them awhile but it's not like the graphics are the only thing that's holding this title back. I'm willing to guess they've gone back to the drawing board several times with this title since it's announcement back in mid '05 due to the technology coming out and have maybe shuffled through several different ideas as to what to really do with this title.

I'd rather have a company take like 5 years ( HL2 was worth the entire wait. ) to develop a really good title instead of a quickly pushed out title with mediocre offerings. Capcom is going to be making us a very excellent title with all this work they're putting into it.
Valince
I bet this will be the LAST RE game, so Capcom and is going to go out with a bang. They would pull it off well if Wesker is like the final boss, or playable.
Athrun
Last RE game?
Not until we see Resident Evil X1 - X8 and Super Resident Evil II Turbo.

Remember we're talking about Capcom here. They don't like to quit putting out a series. Just look at Megaman. tongue.gif

This is the only Resident Evil 5 topic I could find on these forums so I thought i'd chuck this up on here.

Microsoft unveiled the new teaser trailer for RE5 at E3 and you can see it HERE

One word springs to mind and its simply WOW!
Athrun
Nice teaser trailer. It looks like another Ganado-type virus again. I hope we'll see Clair again in this game, but technically it should be Jill's turn to make an appearance unlkess they're both in it. And if Clair is in it then I think Steve will be back.

I hope they have more to show on E3. Preferably some gameplay.
Rubedo
It's confirmed, It's Chris as the lead. Besides Billy coming back due to his VA's leak on his blog, Rita and Yoko from Outbreak as a support cast and don't ask how. I'll throw in a few scans to put a support on this, so be patient.
Denim
Billy. Holy #####, Billy.

I'd thought he died in the forest after RE0, or laid low forever because, damn it, he's still a wanted criminal who's presumed dead due to Rebecca's falsiefied reports.

But Billy was too awesome to abandon. His lame one liners make him awesomer than Leon, because he at least uses them in moderation.

Um. Jill's been absent from the RE series ever since RE3. We see Chris in CVX, with mentions of Leon by Claire. And Leon helps out the main character from Survivor. Leon is in RE4 with Ada.

I'd say, Rebecca and Jill are well overdue for a game that at least features them in some form. Billy is just gravy.

But anyone from Outbreak might as well have died in Outbreak. I liked Mark, but that's it, everyone else was hardly developed.

I've made plans to pick up PS3 at least by the end of 2008, so I'll make sure to get this baby when it comes out, and further complete my primary RE games collection.
Razael
I always liked Carlos. I would have preferred to have both Claire and Carlos come back, they are my two favourite RE characters.
Flame
I was always a little curious whether Yoko would make a return to the series, the other characters from outbreak were just normal people who all happened to go to the same bar. Each had a little bit of a story but they were just your average citizens... Yoko was very different. She worked for umbrella but had her memory erased, I even seem to remember one NPC saying about how the outbreak had something to do with Yoko (before he was shot from above in the head). Her Virus gauge went up the slowest because of something to do with her genes being used with the virus. I would hate to see any of the other outbreak characters return, but she had a purpose that was never quite explained fully.

Anyway, I couldn't care less about Claire, but a game with Jill is needed in my opinion. However, with Chris as the main character it looks as if Claire making an appearance is almost a given.
Flame
Well I wouldn't normally double post BUT A new gameplay trailer has just been released! WOO!

http://www.gametrailers.com/player/22801.html

And man does it look intense... Over the shoulder camera just like resi 4 and so many people coming at you! I have high hopes for this. The in game graphics really look like they are something to be impressed at (at least to me). Oh and it most certainly is Chris Redfield...

Any thoughts anyone?
Grahf
I'm actually really surprised that they have gameplay footage out already, its not even close to release and they're pretty far along, this game is going to be good.
Mr. Wonderful
Another downside is the lack of Zombies.

Interview

Seriously, why is Capcom so hellbent on NOT having us fight Zombies? They're so crucial to the series, not to mention one of the reasons RE4 was the worst of the games considered canon.
Grahf
another? whats a first downside, that its not going to be released for a while?

Why don't you just go make your own topic to bash RE4, we know you want to because someone else opposed your opinion. Oh yes, it sucks because you say it does.

Anyway, to stay on topic, I am really looking forward to this game, as a new fan of the series, and hope that its as good (or even better) than RE4 was, but that would be pretty hard to surpass. I also like the new setting, an african setting is different from other horror games (I don't really play horror games too much, so I don't really know if its a huge change or not, but it looks good to me).

It's silly little comments like this which eventually get topics closed. That goes for anyone who wants to just bitch about each other. This topic is about the development of Resident Evil 5... not childish comments about who says what. From either side.

I personally got a little excited watching the new trailer... especially considering this has got a long way to go before it's developed. It's looking good but, this isn't the same resident evil games that we all fell in love with on the PS1. Don't get me wrong, I do like this new style but... well... it is different. Not just how the game plays but also how the horror is portrayed and the story told. I loved the opening to RE4, but the story just didn't seem to move forward enough and then you go into dark castles and *yawn* you've lost the creepy atmosphere. Now Nemisis... THAT was a game that kept you on edge. This huge almost indestructable boss would charge at you at any time... firing missles at you from the beginning of the game. The setting as well just added to it...

</rant>

I don't want to judge 5 too harshly yet because we know nothing. I wonder who the female character at the end of the triaier is... apparrently we already know her. Rebbeca chambers maybe?
cloudycat
RE4 Was one of the greatest action games ever made, although not scary like the originals it was still a tense and thrilling ride from start to finish, and I am pleased Capcom are following the same formula here RE5, it looks unbelievable and probably shaping up to be one of the best games out next year, bring it on.
Razael
It looks pretty ##### badass if you ask me. However, yes, they should bring back zombies.

This whole new setting reminds me of this thing that happened on the Atlantic Coast like a couple years ago where a village had a disease where some of them just snapped and started to become really violent and angry and would attack others and destroy houses.

And I sure as hell hope that aint Rebecca, I hate that little bitch and cant believe she starred on her own game. ##### ridiculous.

It's the only Resident Evil game that has gotten so many Game of the Year awards (actual GOTY awards, not only within its own genre but of all the games released for all platforms during the entier year), and has gotten re released and remade two additional times. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resident_evil...and_recognition

I don't know where this "it's concidered the worst" is coming from.

Anyway I watched the extended RE 5 trailer today on Playstation Store and wow, the game looks absolutely stunning graphically. I'm sure it's going to be amazing. And at the end of the trailer you see some person waking up. It's either a woman or Steve from Code Veronica. He did look pretty feminine, but I don't think he wore mascara, so I would guess it's a woman.
Valince
Its like Silent Hill. You have to move away from the original aspect or otherwise people will take it as stale. Umbrella is finished, it's no longer about zombies anymore.
