The Evil Dead
After watching Black Christmas I viewed the trailer for the remake of The Hitcher another time so it kinda prompted me to make a topic about this... I thought I already did but after doing a search I couldn't find a topic about it in this forum so here goes.

Anyway, I don't know how many around here have seen the original Hitcher but it's one of the best thrillers ever created. Basically some kid gives the absolute wrong stranger a ride, he ends up being tormented and chased by this maniac and witnesses several murders being done as the Hitcher plays mind games with him.

With the remake it looks like they're going with the boyfriend/girlfriend roadtrip thing and altering the story a bit I think that it should be a fairly solid remake of the original. It's being done by the producers behind The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake ( Michael Bay and company ) so there's definitely not going to be a problem as far as budget with this film. Hopefully they've gone with a solid script and keep things moving quickly like in the original film and not try to do anything stupid with the idea. I think the remake could be most excellent if done right.

Sean Bean is the Hitcher in this one ( Rutger Hauer was the bad dude in the original ) and I think he's an awesome choice for the role. He's a very versatile actor and I think he looks perfect for the role from what I've gathered for the previous. My brother and I were honestly calling out for Bale but I think with all the respect he's been gaining he's a bit above this kind of film.

I think it'll be worth checking out... My only concern is that the director is previously a music video director but they've been known to have unique styles when filming and sometimes that can be a good thing. He's got acting talent with Bean, but can he direct the other two to act decently enough? From what I've gathered in the previews it's all good but previews are often misleading.

Oh yeah... And Neal McDonough for the win. ohmy.gif

Here's some info and a trailer and with any luck I'll be seeing this one opening night on January 19th.

Plot Summary: From filmmaker Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes production company (producers of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and "The Amityville Horror") comes "The Hitcher," an update of the 1986 film of the same name.

Dave Meyers makes his feature directorial debut on the new thriller, which tracks the terrifying trajectory of Grace Andrews (Sophia Bush) and Jim Halsey (Zachary Knighton), a collegiate couple who are tormented by the mysterious hitchhiker John Ryder, a.k.a. The Hitcher (Sean Bean).

The young couple hit the road in a 1970 Oldsmobile 442, en route to spring break. But their pleasure trip soon turns into a waking nightmare. The initial encounters with Ryder are increasingly off-putting for Grace and Jim, and they bravely fight back when he ambushes them. But they are truly blindsided when he implicates them in a horrific slaying and continues to shadow them.

The open road becomes a suspenseful, action-packed battleground of blood and metal as, in trying to elude not only Ryder but also New Mexico State Police Lieutenant Esteridge's (Neal McDonough) officers, Grace and Jim must fight for their lives and face their fears head-on.

I was just curious if you ever had seen it.

You should give it a rent or something man, it's a really good film and really set the pace for a lot of thriller films that followed. I think the new one will be equally as good because of Michael Bay backing the film ( He made the new TCM way better than the old one... It wasn't a great movie, but it was good ) and the fact that it's the friggin' Hitcher. ohmy.gif

I just took a quick look at the trailer for this and i'm definitely going to watch this, I really enjoyed the original, and yes you're right Sean Bean is a great choice for The Hitcher. He plays a great villian and was one of my favourite Bond villians too.

Funny... back when the remake was announced, Bale was one of the candidates that swam through my head as well.

Bean was an excellent choice though. He exudes the same rugged frame as Hauer, and I think he'll pull the role off well. I'm looking forward to seeing it.
