Anyway, I don't know how many around here have seen the original Hitcher but it's one of the best thrillers ever created. Basically some kid gives the absolute wrong stranger a ride, he ends up being tormented and chased by this maniac and witnesses several murders being done as the Hitcher plays mind games with him.
With the remake it looks like they're going with the boyfriend/girlfriend roadtrip thing and altering the story a bit I think that it should be a fairly solid remake of the original. It's being done by the producers behind The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake ( Michael Bay and company ) so there's definitely not going to be a problem as far as budget with this film. Hopefully they've gone with a solid script and keep things moving quickly like in the original film and not try to do anything stupid with the idea. I think the remake could be most excellent if done right.
Sean Bean is the Hitcher in this one ( Rutger Hauer was the bad dude in the original ) and I think he's an awesome choice for the role. He's a very versatile actor and I think he looks perfect for the role from what I've gathered for the previous. My brother and I were honestly calling out for Bale but I think with all the respect he's been gaining he's a bit above this kind of film.
I think it'll be worth checking out... My only concern is that the director is previously a music video director but they've been known to have unique styles when filming and sometimes that can be a good thing. He's got acting talent with Bean, but can he direct the other two to act decently enough? From what I've gathered in the previews it's all good but previews are often misleading.
Oh yeah... And Neal McDonough for the win.
Here's some info and a trailer and with any luck I'll be seeing this one opening night on January 19th.
