I just read this article over at The Feed and found it somewhat interesting. Honestly I thought the Wii would outsell the 360 due to the availability of the console being pretty solid throughout the holidays but it ended up pushing out second compared to the 360. I figured lower prices might make a difference as well.

Anyway, the PS3 of course is in last because there weren't enough units to push in the first place. You can say they'd still be sitting at the bottom anyway but I'd be one to disagree.

Anyway, here's the article... When the actual numbers are posted I'll add it to this topic. Anyone surprised with the results or did you figure this was how it was going to roll?

Xbox 360 topped US hardware sales chart over Xmas - NPD

But Nintendo Wii close behind with 1.8m units sold

Market analysts NPD have suggested that the Xbox 360 was the best-selling console in the US over Christmas - with the Nintendo Wii trailing by just 200,000 units.

According to the firm's preliminary estimates, as reported by CNBC, around 2 million Xbox 360 units were sold in North America from November up until December 25.

The figure for Nintendo Wii stood at 1.8 million units - despite the fact the console only launched in North America on November 19, and the first batch of stock sold out within hours.

Stock shortages were an even bigger problem for Sony. Around 750,000 PlayStation 3 units were sold during the same period.

NPD is expected to release complete figures later this month.

i myself am pretty suprised, I did figure that wii would top 360 over the holidays, but that shows ya how much i know smile.gif

I doubt that PS3 would have done any better, Ive heard a lot of stories about how stores just had PS3s that werent selling.

Anyway, I am also suprised that the Wii didnt outsell the 360, seeing as the Wii is like, the big thing now in a lot of places.

i dont know where you heard that, ps3 was selling out like crazy, and i truly believe that if they would not have had shortages, ps3 would have been the top selling or atleast very close it it

Are these number for over-all or just america? If it's overall then you've got to take into consideration that the Wii is still near-impossible to get hold of in Europe (well at least the UK, I'd assume the rest of Europe).

If that is only for America though I am very shocked... The only thin I could think is that people are still having trouble getting hold of the Wii... If not, maybe the 360 is genuinly more popular... I still see the Wii outselling the rest though...

There were no Wii shortages that I heard of. They pumped out a lot consoles, in fact I think their goal was 2 million, by christmas.

I dunno about all that. I could be wrong but I never read any articles about stores not selling their PS3 stock. I wouldn't doubt it happened somewhere at some time, but I don't think it was commonplace.

PS3's aren't selling like crazy everywhere actually. But they do always sell all of their stock at the end of the week, as the sales figures prove. They always match the amount of shipped consoles.
People just don't walk around with $600 in their pockets. Especially after Christmas.

In some places they stay on the shelfs for 24 - 48 hours these days, but in some other places they all sell out in minutes. It varies from place to place.

Anyway, the Wii and PS3 would have sold more units than the X360 if there were more units available, obviously. Still that doesn't change the fact that X360 sold well over the hollidays. I'm surprised.

A great xmas for Microsoft, though I figure everyone was expecting that. ohboy.gif Gears of War helped a lot, aswell as some clever Halo 3 advertising.

Nintendos and Sony sales figures, it's too soon to really be taking notice. Both are impossible to get, generally, so you cant tell how many they would of really sold if they had an unexhaustable supply.

Wii is impossible to get hold of here, hopefully i'll get mine next week if i'm lucky.

All we have to do is wait until the next holiday season. I'm betting they will all show off their biggest guns then and that makes me happy.

Despite Wii's availability being pretty solid, there still wasn't enough to meet the real demand behind it. I tried and wasn't able to get one for weeks at any given store in my zip code, and now I've generally just decided to wait for SSBB before getting one. If there were actually a Wii to go around to everyone who wanted one, Nintendo would've topped the charts easily, probably by a landslide. But I'm happy with MS on top. They're improving a lot on their game library and I think it's well-deserved this year.

Is the wii that hard to get hold of here in Britian? I did not look into getting one directly (as out side of Zelda the game all seem really poor) but my brother got one and he did not preorder one that early on, he also stood a good chance of getting an other before christmas but that one was left to other people.

Yeah... That's for around the world. I'm talking about the US as stated twice previously in this thread.
