So much for Squallina. Apparently her name is Lightning, according to the latest Famitsu.

Yeah that name is so much ##### better aint it, Lightening, i bet Squenix is just throwing so much money at its creative team.

At least it says its possibly her nick name. My guess is thats more of a code name than a nick.

They also said before (unless I'm mistaken) thats he is not the main character of the game, but that another female character is.

It's just a name, so it's not a huge deal. At least it's better than Dagger. Not to mention the first name Squallina sounded bad, too. Like a female verison of Squall's name.

...Its not "like" a female version of Squall's name, thats basically what it is, you are calling water wet. Focus.

To be fair guys, these are the same company that came up with brilliant names like Gogo, Cloud and Butz, this is a step up.

Squallina was just something I made up because of her gunblade weapon, and the fact that she almost looks like Squall in some images, but it seemed to catch on and they mentioned it in a news article online, along with "Cloudia" XD

I Protest, His name was never supposed to be Butz... that was poor translation... but whatever.

I feel it would be quite ironic for me to comment on how bad naming a character after an element is so I'm just going to shut up. Shiva looks kind of cool, but generally Shiva always has. So maybe Summons will play a major role in the storyline. The guy with the bandana looks pretty cool. I'd still rather get to see how the battle system works more than knowing about characters though... but I'm probably gonna have to wait a while for that.

well Lightning is a terrible name, but it could be worse, it could be squallina with is HORRIBLE.. hopefully this is just a codename/nicknamel.. i know its just a name but a good name really makes a difference.

LOLS, I'd prefer the name Lightning to the name "Squallina". It sounds like some sad FF8 fangirl's attempt to glorify another angsty character in Squenix's FF games.

But yeah, it sounds more like a codename than anything. I wonder if we'll play it and find out her name is like Jehosephat or something hahahaha. 8D

Square will be getting hate mail no matter what they do... might just as well ##### it up early. Though I don't see why everyone is complaining, it's not the worst name in the world. One would assume that it is just a codename though... (Look at me speaking all posh like)...

I am just gonna go ahead and say it, I think Cloudette is one of the best feminizalations ever. Its simple and logical yet it works.

Lightning is as good of a name as I've ever heard in the FF series.

Because the names are all totally and completely ridiculous. I think Cid is the most normal out of all the character names and that's not even a very normal name.

Lightning works I guess. It seems a bit long to me though, they need something shorter and catchier like some previous FF character names.

A lot of people forget that Squall a natural phenomena.

But anyway, I still disapprove of this name, and yes I realize that others names arent normal, but this just doesnt seem very good at all, but I guess this is how people felt when they first learned that the name of the main character in FFVII was going to be Cloud.

As Flame said, the pattern that they're following is logical, and I'm glad someone mentioned it. As for "Lightning" herself, being a code name is quite possible, yet there hasn't been any official confirmation yet. I wouldn't be all too surprised if it is, in fact, her actual name. Time will tell.

Actually FF had plenty of normal, though perhaps dated names, just not for many of the main characters

Cecil, Rosa, Edgar, Eiko, Yuna, Maria, Hilda, Edward, etc.

Vincent is a normal name.
Locke... is a last name, but I can see someone naming their kid that.
Reina is obviously a normal name too.

I'm sure Lightning could be translated differently.

Like, Raijin and Fujin would be Thunder Man and (fuujin) Wind Man.

Rest assured, it's a codename. The description beside Lightning's picture in the first scan of FallenKnight's topic 'New Character' says as much. Her real name is unknown (at this point of time, at least).

Lightning is a codename. It's kind of funny. I know some of my friends at GS tell me her real name is Lightning. In reality, Nomura says as you get closer to the game; Lightning's true name will be revealed. That won't be for a long time.

Can I take a stab at what the real name is? Sparky! Honestly, I could care less what the main characters name/nickname is...I guess I'm just not picky that way...

Personally I don't see the reason for all the fuss, I kind of like the name lightning for a character. (kind of striking ) Though I admit it'd probably be better having there as a nickname instead of the actual name of a character.

Although, since Tetsuya is still fleshing out the characters for the game it might be another while before we find out her official name. The playable version of the game that will be at E3 this year might reveal it if it hasn't been already. Myself though, I'm more interested in seeing what this game's Cid will look like.
